Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

There is nobody really interesting from the main cast besides Goku and Vegeta except for ToP and Trunks in his arc, who also didn't do much by the way. Sure, but you just explained why they're secondary cast members. Their job is to support the leads specifically because they're not all that intere...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I did pay attention to the story. You spent two posts avoiding my actual points while rambling about things that had no relation to them. Either you weren't paying attention or you actually were being disingenuous. Almost nothing that happens within the Tournament of Power's 30-something episode du...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

His role as the leader int he anime was anything but 'fluff'. If you're going to respond to me, address the points I made instead of retorting with irrelevant, poorly articulated examples that focus on isolated team-ups and have nothing to do with leading a team of fighters. I just explained how it...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

He was important in the tournament, but that's about it. I don't even think that much is true. In the anime, Gohan's role as "team leader" is pointless fluff. The four teammates that actually go along with his position are the first four to get eliminated, and not long after the tournamen...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I myself can't find the appeal behind him as a character except for reasons expressed by other users with respect to his familiarity and iconicity in Dragon Ball stardom. It's the potential subversion of his trademark berserker persona that I think would be the most interesting element to his conti...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Those characters would have to be properly developed and incorporated into the narrative. For aforementioned reasons, Broly potentially could be. While I wouldn't personally agree that he's "stale" as he's largely unexplored, his ties to Freeza are nonetheless cause enough to organically ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Can we have some of other characters involved with this continual martial progression we see in chapters? If we go that route, we need to do it with newer characters at this point. The previous arc already showed the structural ramifications of trying to shoehorn old side characters into stories th...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Right off the bat, we already have a better grasp of this arc's underlying premise than the previous arc's own premise and themes when it began. That's important because it keeps the audience invested, which the chapter accomplishes by dedicating more of its panel space to exploring Granolah, his ba...

Re: Vegeta’s ridiculous situation..

I don't think the manga has said anything to contradict this. It hasn't. More crucially, the manga is far and away more cohesive with Vegeta's broader character arc throughout Super. In the Future Trunks arc, both Goku and Vegeta strive to maximize Super Saiyan Blue's power output in different ways...

Re: Vegeta’s ridiculous situation..

I don’t understand why people want Vegeta to get UI so bad. If anything, the GPP arc shows that Vegeta can be an enjoyable deuteragonist without Ultra Instinct or even necessarily catching up to Goku. Forced Spirit Fission (or what he does with it, in any case) serves as a nice culmination of his p...

Re: Should Toei start making Dragon Ball "What If's" ?

Toei produced/adapted Episode of Bardock, which is about as "what-if" as a what-if spinoff can get. It wasn't good, but I digress. In general, I don't think these provide anything substantive outside of amusing fans who want to see consequences or events unfold differently for the sake of ...

Re: Everything Wrong with Dragon Ball Super

Anyone who knows anything about storytelling. Each story following BOG could've used at least 2 rewrites. Bad argument. Literally any moron can tweak somebody else's stuff, regardless of writing ability. You didn't put anywhere close to the same amount of effort it took collaborative artists like T...

Re: The Super Re-Read

Oh. I rarely see anyone agree with me on those being the best and worst arcs, respectively. I wonder how 1:1 we are on other storyline rankings. Now that you mention it, it looks like both of us contributed to the "Kanzenshuu's Favorite Arcs" thread and there's indeed much overlap in our ...

Re: The Super Re-Read

Back when this arc concluded in December, I'd finished my own re-read of GPP; these are my complete thoughts . I guess it's because I judge everything on its own merits instead of jumping the gun every month, but a retrospective approach did very little to change my original view of these chapters d...

Re: Dub-fans, was there an adjustment period for you when Goku started to be portrayed correctly in DBS?

I think the change from Z Goku to Super (anime) Goku is jarring, dub fan or not. This eloquently hits the nail on the head for me. I think if we're strictly comparing Goku's portrayal between manga serializations, the difference/change isn't that jarring or drastic. There might be the occasional pa...

Re: Kanzenshuu's favorite arcs.

It's never been a very popular arc throughout most of the last 25 years, but ever since the DBD videos on it, all of the sudden it started getting overrated by some in the community. Wait, what? I don't even watch Dragon Ball Dissection and RRA is one of my favorite arcs. Don't assume everyone regu...

Re: Who else here got into Dragon Ball with original series?

I honestly can't remember. My first memory of the franchise is also of kid Goku's antics in the first episode, and I think over the next few years I would sort of switch back and forth between the DB and DBZ shows before finally viewing everything in order. It's odd that for a series I'm so invested...

Re: Johnny Yong Bosch Replaces Vic Mignogna as Broly.

I was a strong advocate of booting McNuggets from the industry, myself, and I'm glad he's no longer associated with Funimation. However, I don't take issue with the movie not getting redubbed. I think that depends entirely on how comfortable one would feel separating the art from the artist's misdee...

Re: Dragon Ball Super Strength Discussion Thread

I think the most difficult part of Grand Kaioshin’s story to make sense is that his god power is apparently enough to feed Goku back to Ultra Instinct, and yet that same power didn’t warrant his victory against the evil Boo and Moro millions of years ago. (In Moro’s case, he had to use a very power...
