Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

Japanese broadcast stereo audio However the original DB/Z series was always mono, for the entire run up till Movie 13. (Of course, others in the same time bracket were already adopting stereo as well as keeping their own masters.) Although you did say "in a perfect world/my ideal release"...

It's probably the "18 breaks Vegeta's arm with a kick" moment that's being referred to.

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

And with that, we can probably retire this topic now (at least till the next inevitable time it pops up). It's a downer for sure, like a whole bunch of other realities in its medium's presentation to the US in particular (such as certain series never even taking off there and by extension in the wid...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

On top of that, why would they use the Japanese pronunciations of Piccolo, Erasa, etc? Those are English words that Toriyama took as pun names for his characters. I mean, Sharpner ("Shaapna") is literally the word "sharpener," the Saiyan names are vegetable puns, Bulma's family'...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

To cite another example, Saint Seiya getting one by Netflix only worked because the series never took off in the US to begin with. If the reduced Ocean-era production was all there was, and it led to similar results (impossible, even re-runs couldn't kill it), that might have been the case too (prov...

Re: Would a complete DBZ English redub be necessary?

This thread topic seems familiar.... and not just that it's likely been retreaded numerous times since probably back to when all the mistakes were first made, but that I made a sort of similar thread a couple of months back upon realizing the monkey's paw situation the IP is in on a lot of different...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Well, I guess it would've been really hard for Kikuchi to make 3 scores per year, the best we had was 1993 with his scores for Movies 8, 9 and the Great Saiyaman saga Score, and you saw how the the latter ended up being like, it's way too simple when you compare it to the previous TV Scores, it's e...

Re: The end of "Akira Toriyama canon"

The franchise was already being milked in the 1990s with the yearly Toei movies which are a just reskin of "Goku fights strong guy, Goku gets mad and activates transformation, Goku kills strong guy". True, 13 movies within the run time of the Z series (as well as certain other areas) is u...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

To be fair I think it would be really weird to get new tracks based on Makafushigi Adventure in the eame score that is meant to give the spotlight to the whole new Chala head chala, it would be like making new tracks based on the latter but for the M1700 score, I don't think there's any mystery beh...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Unless you're talking about new tracks based on the song being made for the TV series, then it's true. Yea, I meant the variations in the M-8xx and M-9xx packs that were made for Movies 1 & 2 (and never left them). Bit of a shame too since the Goku-Piccolo theme combination didn't seem to be do...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

You know, considering that Z movies 1 and 2 were still using the OP re-arrangement motif of the original Dragon Ball series (even though it can't be used in the Z series proper) as well as their general vibe, I wonder if the Toei staff was essentially just stalling so they could rehash the Saiyan pl...

Re: unpopular opinion: kenji yammoto should have never got fired

Well, well, what do you know, it looks like he's been completely unpersoned on an official level. ――It's not American rock, that's for sure. Kageyama: No, it isn't. The bass riff has a swing to it, and the song has a distinct '80s pop vibe. As opposed to screeching guitar chords, there are high-pitc...

Re: DB Series TV-Size Karaoke Track discussions

We have some of the original instrumental tracks (made undubbed) on the internet in high quality: OG DB themes (Original OP and ED) DBZ themes (Original OP 1 and ED 1) DBZ TV Special 2 (ED theme) DBGT themes (OP and ED 1) DBZ Kai themes (OPs 1 - 3 and EDs 1 - 8 ) DBS themes (OPs 1 - 2 and EDs 1 - 1...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Ah, good to know. Kikuchi himself may not be the reason that score contains stuff that's typically not in his scores, but I think it shows that his style can be made to sound more "modern" for those who value that. Though now I'm curious if he had any say in the arrangement process for th...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

It's a mixed bag. I just recently got finished rewatching the Saiyan arc and the overreliance on music from the first Z movie once Vegeta and Nappa arrive on earth is highly noticeable. I wouldn't go as far as saying it doesn't fit but it does have a feeling of "this music was intended for som...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

yeah obviously the DB/Z Anime adaption was a huge success but that was not my point i just think that the Anime adaption did not age well compared to the Original Manga which has one of the best Pacing/Flow and most consistent Art in Manga History. most of the criticism towards Dragon Ball today ac...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

I love Kikuchi score, but I feel like his score in the anime could use some more variety. There are tons of overused tracks. Late reply but the original DB was fantastic because it followed the right convention of actually making theme suites around in-show characters. Z unquestionably lost its way...

Re: Yamamoto is Back

Returning to this thread (almost 2 years since the last reply, I know), the next set of music added to JASRAC under his name (and also published by the same Music Airport) is, so far, code 272-xxxx-x, precisely 6 tracks in total. And judging by the titles, as well as the only credit present being &q...
