Re: Episode #0510 (05 April 2024) — Akira Toriyama: Personal Impact & Legacy
Wrote up my full thoughts on all this a few days ago and figured this would be a good place to post them. (This is also in response to that Kanzenshuu Twitter post where you called for comments/memories/stories) --- Given that I'm Dutch, one of the first things I do every morning is check a Dutch ne...

Re: General Website Goofs/Errors
Came across something in this interview translation - it still says "Nappa [Chinese cabbage]", while I think it's been established that the name "nappa" actually came from leafy vegetables.

Re: Dragonball Z Legendary Super Warriors 20-year anniversary of the US launch
Just did another playthrough in celebration of the anniversary. It's not the most superb amazing game ever or anything, but it'll always have a special place in my heart because of how involved I was in its little community of players back in the day. Very fond memories of figuring out how to unlock...

Re: Iconic Voices in DB
What's amazing to realize about Nozawa is that she didn't become Goku until the age of FIFTY. Her super-impressive tenure as Goku still counts for less than half her life! She had a whole entire life BEFORE her most iconic role. Just goes to show anything can happen at any age. Don't count yerselves...

Re: Iconic Voices in DB
Having started out with the dub, it took me a while to come around to the Japanese cast, but I got there in the end and now I adore them. I once tried to make a top 10 list of my favorite DB actors -- and ended up with a list of about 25 all vying for the number 1 spot. That's just how good they all...

Re: Bora and Upa - Wasted Potential?
It is a bit sad that Goku and the cast are in the Karin Tower location so many times without ever bothering to visit Upa and Bora. I definitely would've preferred having Upa at the 22nd tournament instead of Panput. After the Baba stuff, Upa seemed to have found some courage and motivation inspired ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z - Unfortunate name
As good an excuse as any to finally drop the "Z" and simply treat those 444 episodes as one and the same series! (Which I've been doing privately for years already anyway)

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
I've been randomly rewatching the Freeza fight, and Kaiō keeps saying "They touched that which must not be touched."
And I just realized that, intentional or not, this is Mr. Make-me-laugh-with-a-pun himself delivering a pun.

Re: Episode #0490 (06 March 2022)
Heads-up: the mp3's direct download link on the main website links to episode #0489. I was very confused when I heard the opening line say August 2021  I don't care about 'Kakarot' at all but it's been so long you got me tuning in anyway :P (having said that, listening to you all discussing the...

I can only speak for the Netherlands, but we got some of the movies (2-4 like you said) on VHS with that dub. They were actually my introduction to Head Cha La and Kikuchi's score!

Re: Which scene gives you goosebumps?
There's a scene after the first arc, in DB episode 14, when Goku goes off to Kame House for training. He rides Kinto'un through mountains and then a tunnel, comes out facing a cliff, flies up over it, and then --- here's the goosebumps-inducing part --- there's a stunning shot of the ocean with sunl...

Re: Thanks for everything, Mr. Yanami.
Been sort of expecting it ever since his health declined to the point where he stopped doing voice work, but he still managed to hang on for quite a while. Doesn't take away the fact that this news still stings. I am now imagining him narrating his own departure, closing out his final episode... Goo...

Re: Who is Your Favorite Character Per Main Arc in Dragon Ball?
Ahh, this is always tough because every time I revisit an arc, my ranking of favorites changes. So I'm gonna be listing multiple characters. DB hunt : Right now I would say Yamcha, but I have to mention Umigame. The few lines he gets are all wise and/or funny. 21st TB : It would be Muten Roshi if it...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 9/27/21!)
The praise for Studio Cockpit surprised me, as I've always disliked their over-exaggerated facial expressions. The characters look like they're GRINDING. THEIR. TEETH. SO. HARD!! Animation-wise they're fine, it's just the art style that bothers me, I guess. On a note I did agree with, yes the contra...

Re: Do You Have a Different Favorite Arc than You've Had in the Past?
Initially my favorite part of the series was not necessarily an arc, but the part where we first see Super Saiyans Goku and future Trunks in action. Freeza left such a terrifying impression with the way Gohan and Kuririn stood frozen in fear when they first sensed his power. Then Goku transforms and...

Re: Misanthropic themes in Dragon Ball and other Toriyama work
I don't necessarily see Toriyama's outlook on the world as being cynical or pessimistic, but as realistic. The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Many people are selfish and ignorant. But the world is also not all doom and gloom. There are some who inspire hope, who strive for and even accomplis...

Re: At what point in the story did the characters look and feel their most powerful?
I was also going to say Goku when he first became a Super Saiyan; something about the way he was presented gave him an aura of mightiness, like he truly lived up to the legend as the most powerful thing in the universe. When it seemed he died after Namek's explosion, it almost felt like that was the...

Re: Non-American fans of Faulconer
We got some Faulconer-scored episodes over here in the Netherlands, so I simply enjoyed that version of the show unassumingly. If you look at my oldest posts here (please forgive their cringy nature, I was sixteen and very insecure) you can even see me praising the score, something that is unimagina...

Re: Welp, I’m done, never thought I’d say it, but I’m done.
I'm not happy either that my favourite franchise is being destroyed piece by piece. It's not being destroyed. The parts of Dragon Ball that you like will always be there for you to return to whenever you feel like it. Personally, no matter what new DB material comes out, it has no impact on my enjo...

Re: In my opinion, after the Saiyan Arc...
People forgot about Daimao because he only reigned for a couple of hours (not counting his previous reign during Mutaito's era). Imagine if this happened. Crazy dude comes on TV saying he's the king now and that he's going to destroy everyone. Very scary, except that a mere few hours later, it is an...
