Re: Could Dragonball/Z work as a serious show?
I think a lot of people in this thread are putting up examples of "dark" moments in Dragon Ball as showing it could "world" without thinking about the actual question - if you could LITERALLY do the whole series like that, and remove any trace of comedy. Also, in pretty much all ...

Re: Could Dragonball/Z work as a serious show?
"Dark"? No. One of the cornerstones of the franchise is a giant reset button for anything that can go wrong, and one of the many recurring themes of Dragon Ball is having (at times inappropriately mood-killing) comedy even in the darkest moments. More a "straight" action show wit...

Re: Listing for "Ocean Dub"-specific DBZ: "Rock the Dragon"
Never really was into the original Ocean dub, and I'm perfectly content with my Dragonboxes, so I don't think I'll be getting this. The only thing that would make me consider getting this is if it's a limited release, especially if it goes into Dbox Vol. 2 type of rare. And it wouldn't even be for ...

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
Maybe they're thinking that aspect ratio was one of the reasons why Kai and the Level sets didn't sell well compared to the orange bricks, and they want unthoughtful morons' opinions to justify their cropping on future releases. I know I'm being too skeptic here, but I have a really bad feeling abo...

Re: Are English Speakers the Only Ones that Have a Problem..
I don't think it can even be narrowed down to Goku being voiced by a woman as you can check out other English dubs to find male characters voiced by women, from Ash in Pokemon to Naruto. Even Bart Simpson is voiced by a woman. One thing you have to remember about all three of these characters that ...

Re: FUNimation "DBZ on Blu-Ray" Survey
I would just like to note that I got an e-mail about this earlier and filled out the survey. There is a page where they ask if you'd like a cropped screen. Needless to say, when I selected the original aspect ratio and got the "why?" question, my plea for FUNimation to not make another Ora...

Re: Something's missing from Goku vs Superman
For reference, and taking this as being about the "Death Battle" episode; I'm pretty sure this kind of thing's been pointed out about previous "Death Battles", and it's expressly stated as something that needs to be ignored for the sake of the show to work.

Re: Dragon Box "Rental" DVDs... Good?
While I don't know the specifics of Dragon Ball Rental DVDs, from what I've generally heard of/seen from other rental DVDs compared to retail;
1) Bonus features will be nerfed
2) You may have slightly reduced image or sound quality, although this is not a constant.

Re: Dub Translation Differences in the Movies.
For refernence on the Creative Products dub: I used to have a VHS copy (of a copy, of a copy...) of the tape. Hopefully needless to say, it didn't sound as distorted as the clips going around now, which sound like they're from late 90's internet with their low-bitrate encodings. It's amazing the aud...

Re: Toei's Suspense Killing
They seriously came up with the titles first and the plot later? O_O That sounds humorously reckless of them and at the same time really challenging. It also explains why some of the movie titles are so vague. It also explains why many of the trailers (The one for "Fight! 10 Billion Power Warr...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
It's just a theory but... Maybe there are a few colours that can't been bring back to its original tone without screwing up some other colours? That Bulma's hair is an example. The sky blue aged into a cyan/tortoise tone similar to Bulma's hair, but the hair colour didn't get alterate so much becau...

Re: Dragonball Z Kai DVD trade
I have copies of Kai part 1 in excess and Kai part 2 as well, so sorry to say I have no need for them. Is there any other DB/Z DVDs you'd be willing to offer? I'd probably like Kai 7 or 8 and some Blue Bricks.

Re: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle Revisit
May I ask how the dub in the 4-movie Box compares to the one in the singles/3-movie box? I mean, I know it's the same voice cast and etc. but I was curious about sound remastering or enhancement.
(I'd ask about video as well but that's kinda been covered.)

Re: Which DB series got the worst dub?
The best worst dub ever is the AB Groupe "Big Green" dub for the DBZ movies. This isn't true, sir, the Speedy Dub and its Saiya People make it the best-worst comical English dub, it qualifies as one of the worst dubs but not the worst dub ever. And I agree for once with peguin, FUNimation...

Re: Why does FUNi release DBZ on BD/DVD when they'll cancel
So you are saying if I have the english audio on vhs, some singles and the dragonboxes video and the the blu-rays (what they came out with anyways >.>) I shouldn't be able to just get the audio(which i physically own in different states) online and instead rip video to the computer(which I have uns...

Re: The hype over Ocean Dub
When trying to talk in short-hand (so that we don't end up with multi-paragraph essays about whom did what in regards to what dub) I tend to term the dubs as "Saban" or "syndicated" for the original 52/TV Version of Tree of Might, "Pioneer" for the 3 movies, "FUNi&...

Re: Funimation comments on the Blu-Rays, hints at more DBoxe
The Blu-ray seems to be the last physical disc format, because it's all aiming towards digital format, games (Xbox LIVE, Steam, Nintendo, Sony), music (iTunes, Zune, Sony), films (Zune, LOVEFiLM, Netflix, Hulu, Vudu HD), news (RussiaToday, Sky News, BBC, ITV), books (Amazon's Kindle, mobile phones)...

Re: Funimation comments on the Blu-Rays, hints at more DBoxe
But how many people, if the levels didn't sell well enough to continue being made as it is? By virtue Funimation's own cannibalization via the Orange Bricks, no less! DVD will be on it's way out when a double-digit number publishers have the guts to release movies and series exclusively on Blu-ray,...

Re: Funimation comments on the Blu-Rays, hints at more DBoxe
How does Amazon work? Because the stock for Boxes 5-7 keep changing. Not too long ago they had like 4 left. But now it seems that the have more. That tends to happen often. From what I recall hearing in a prior DBox 1-4 discussion they supposedly replenish their stock from taking from other affilia...

Re: If you could have a character's power which would it be?
What I'd probably try to do is mix together two powers that would probably cause a logic bomb just to see what happens. For example, if I mix Guldo's Time Freeze with Goku's Instant Movement... Would I end up having time frozen myself? (Guldo's ability would've been absolutely crazy if a more powerf...
