Re: New Simplistic Transformations Are Good, Actually

A lot of the distaste for the simple transformations probably is based on the number of Saiayjin transformations getting excessive at this point and that power multiplier transformations that come at no cost are getting out of hand. It feels like a cheap way to get buzz and only adds to these issues...

Re: Am I the only one who feels like I missed out on Dragon Ball?

I was around 12 years old when Dragon Ball first started reaching the U.S. and I remember when I finally started finding chat rooms that there were a whole host of people who had been there quite a while. Dragon Ball had hardly been released in an official capacity and yet there were tons of website...

Re: Anyone see the BLT dub during its initial broadcast?

I saw it! I remember that the first episode I randomly turned into was the "Boss Rabbit" episode. The name Dragon Ball Z was vaguely familiar to me because the video game magazine GameFan did several articles on the SNES Super Butoden games, eventually lamenting that they had been cancelle...

I feel the video game cutscene aesthetic, especially this blatant, never looks good. I hope they don't keep doing this in the future.

Re: Why are so many DB creators becoming subject to Toei's wrath?

There's a certain perceived standard that exists that has been fleshed out over the last 10 years in regards to what generally is allowed on websites (including video streaming) and what isn't. The current standard, when no one is abusing it (which I realize is subjective and susceptible to debate b...

Re: Why are so many DB creators becoming subject to Toei's wrath?

I don't care how much of their heart and soul they put in if I don't like what they create. It's irrelevant to whether I enjoy it. Gotcha, so you do not care. Before you were disregarding the idea that YouTube content creators may put their heart and soul into their work so I'm glad you walked that...

Re: Why are so many DB creators becoming subject to Toei's wrath?

It was meant to insult them. I don't find much value in what they do, certainly not enough that they should be able to sustain a living based on how little value they actually create. Most of the stuff ever made is garbage, why should this be any different. Instead of doing all that for stories the...

Re: Why are so many DB creators becoming subject to Toei's wrath?

we're talking about Toei, the same company that has been pushing shows like GeGeGe no Kitaro, Galaxy Express 999, and Dr. Slump here in the U.S. to no fanfare. Toei (or someone) is fronting the money on these shows with no audience here so they're gong to need all the help they can get. A grassroot...

Re: Why are so many DB creators becoming subject to Toei's wrath?

Here is my take on the value of YouTube content. A few people seem astonished that someone would want to make a living by putting opinionated videos on YouTube. While I'm not the one to speak on how smart that is or is not, it's definitely nothing new. A well put together YouTube show/series is not ...

Re: Boycotting DB related company - did you do it?

I do boycott Viz with only a few exceptions. This is the company that advertised a specific release of the Dragon Ball manga as uncensored and yet they still censored it. Early on they apologized in one instance, calling it an accident, and then on a later print only partially uncensored the volume....

Re: Sean Schemmel IN DEPTH interview Part 2

I can appreciate the man's distaste for how many people's hands have been in the pot for presenting Dragon Ball to English speaking audiences. He's trying to retro-fit the presentation of the product into being as non-mangled and natural as possible which I respect.

#db - The original Dragon Ball chatroom

A long time ago, at least as early as 1996 (per a reference I found on Wuken's Homepage), there was an IRC chatroom that became the primary meeting place of Dragon Ball fans and website owners. Compared to the size of the chatroom, it had a tremendous downstream impact on English Dragon Ball fandom ...

Re: Kameha-con 2018!!

An odd metric to gauge popularity, but at the anime cons I've been to, the draw of a TFS panel that is typically at least 90% Dragon Ball related completely blows away the audience that shows up for a more straight Dragon Ball panel. You end up hearing of a lot of people who've maintained their inte...

Re: Episode #0412 (11 September 2016)

Enjoyed the heck out of this episode. I remember being incredibly confused when I first saw Dragon Ball Z on TV. I was young and I was used to watching the first 13 episodes air on TV week after week. Every time they got to episode 13 and teased the next episode and spoke of a martial arts tournamen...

Re: Trying to get someone caught up before BoG.

My girlfriend actually read the entire manga inside of 2 weeks and she enjoyed the heck out of the movie. I was pretty jealous of how she was able to experience the series completely in order with no idea what of what would happen in the future. Watching Battle of the Gods in the theater, she said i...

Re: Post your Battle of Gods Theatre Experience

Saw this in the theater tonight which was the second showing out of two showings my theater was doing. It was about 60-70% full. It was pretty awesome seeing half the people walking in wearing DBZ shirts and random Dragon Ball conversation going from all directions while everyone waiting for the mov...

Re: Most disturbing death

I always found the murders of innocent people to be rather jarring. Taopiepie goes into some random town and offs a few peaceful citizens, completely out of left field and not at all within the normal tone of the show, and then the plot just progresses on and no one cares. At that point the show see...

Re: Looking for info on this bootleg set

There was a very short period of time where the only English subtitled version of Yu Yu Hakusho was through bootleg DVD's and if I remember correctly, Hiei and Kurama had their names switched in every instance their name was spoken. It was pretty awful. Rumor has it many of the subtitles on these se...

Re: Episode #0259 (22 May 2011)

Anime Crisis, mentioned above, was involved in a pretty big fiasco that almost no one remembers. They were theoretically an anime club, based somewhere in or near Las Vegas. A few of the movies found their way to the internet but that's about it. A very long time ago, possibly around 1996 or so, bac...

Re: Episode #0259 (22 May 2011)

What I was able to dig up (because the robots file has finally been removed) was the announcement of upcoming subtitled DVDs from toriyama.org (which was run by TheDuck [Brian], Wuken [Sherwin], Daimao [Steve], and maybe one other person I'm forgetting...? Was it Carddass [Rob]...?). It was indeed ...
