Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy
The FUNi dub of Kai always irked me...they teased us by using certain Japanese attack names for the first time ever early on in the show, but then switched right back to using the prior English dub attack names. The Kai dub was no doubt a massive improvement on pretty much every DB/DBZ dub that came...

Re: Why Kai 1.0's Kikuchi Score was so limited.
It's a shame what happened to Kai. The original DBZ is iconic to me partly because of the soundtrack. Having a refreshed version, with filler removed, and a rocking new soundtrack was a fun experience. But when the OST had to be replaced with haphazardly placed Kikuchi scores, it just wasn't worth w...

Re: Minority representation for minority characters in Voice acting
I‘m gonna be honest, I don’t think Apu being voiced by a man of Indian descent or Cleveland being voiced by a black man is going to change much in the grand scheme of things. It’s just going to fuel this mentality among a number of Internet circles that PC culture is full of a bunch of bullies who ...

Re: Minority representation for minority characters in Voice acting
If the world of voice acting has been difficult to break into for POCs, whether because of active racism or because of benign nepotism, I'm all for efforts to locate and incorporate them into the fold. However, and I say this as godless liberal filth, the lack of nuance/discretion that gives way to...

It's cool and all that they're sort of using "Son Goku" in the dub script for the game, but why do they butcher the pronunciation of Son?

I was wholly on board with you until the Hispanic thing. It doesnt need to be in the post and it undermines you as a source of understanding between races. So you're cool with de-legitimizing the lived experiences of American minorities such as black men? He's speaking his truth. People of all ethn...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
On top of everything else, we can now also wonder whether Toei will force the subtitles on this set to use the dub names and terms. Just another uncertainty for the 30th anniversary mondo-cool cat loves food edition.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Sooooo....this is what I don't get. FUNi wants to produce this "30th Anniversary Edition". Says we need a minimum number of preorders to make it happen. And even then, it'll be limited to 6,000 sets. Which is nothing. The cost of releasing this is mainly limited to producing the discs, box...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
The original DBZ singles included one next episode preview per disc, to preview the first episode of the next disc, IIRC. It was English language only. During the original Toonami airings, the next episode previews aired in English. I believe it was Chris Psaros who once hypothesized that FUNi had t...

Re: Geekdom says remasters coming
I'm disappointed they're releasing Dragon Ball Z first. Again. We never got a Dragon Ball Dragon Box release, so North America has yet to receive a proper release of Dragon Ball which features all of the opening and closing sequences, nor next episode previews. FUNimation defaults everything DBZ-rel...

Re: Affiliates that showed DBZ in Syndication+Ratings! (Now with ACTUAL INFO)
Yep. For me in Las Vegas in 1996, Dragon Ball Z aired in a one-hour block on a local channel. I want to say from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM. It may have been 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. I used to set my clock radio to wake me up early so I could watch it.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Being a gag episode, it seems they chose (or were forced by Toei) to keep certain Dr. Slump terminology and character mannerisms, that I don't believe they bothered to keep in past crossovers. The dubbed opening theme was a nice touch, also! I was hoping they'd throw in something like this when Goku...

Re: Was the BLT dub any good?
I think the BLT dub stands up pretty well. The voice acting is solid, and although the music is replaced, it's a pretty good score. While there is some censorship, "death" was still allowed to be spoken, just as it was in the first four episodes of Ocean DBZ. See this clip as an example: h...

Isn't Zeni the currency used in the Dragon Ball world? They probably wouldn't go with that.

There's one particular Sumitomo tracks that reminds me a LOT of a particular Faulconer riff. Made me scratch my head a little and question what dub I was watching.

Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Did they really? What's your source? It seems to be one of those things everybody remembers but can never find. There's another Kanzenshuu post around here somewhere too. Sabat wanted to grab McNeil for Piccolo back when Kai started, but it was too expensive. Funnily enough McNeil did go down there...
