Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

I've hated the overcooked contrast look of the Funimation releases for what fees like decades. Good riddance forever.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

Here's a bunch of comparisons I made: the Dragonboxes were upscaled to 1440x1080 in Photoshop, and pillarboxes were added for easier comparing the Blu-ray. The US Dragonbox shots were shifted up 11 pixels to match the frame positioning of the JPN release. All shots lossless PNG. Level 1.1 Blu-ray | ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

Any word on the JPN audio? If it's anything less than lossless mono, I'm gonna be disappointed.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

It's 16mm film, which means it will be an upscale. The DragonBoxes will still be the best release. Rofl, one of the wrongest things I've read all month. Film does not have a resolution and 16mm definitely does not translate to less than HD quality. Modern 16mm film can resolve more detail than 1080...

I grew up on the dub, but once I heard the original, I never went back.

LOLOLOLOLOLautotune. I guess it matches the trashy techno music of the outro though.

Re: DVD or Blu-ray

Not much difference with the early episodes, but the HD quality improves as the series goes on. By end you'll definitely want it in HD. Having part of the show in DVD will looks stupid on your shelf.

Re: Dragon Ball Kai Bluray Rips :D

Somehow the transition of rip to YouTube got screwed up. The Blu-rays are 24fps (23.976 actually), your YouTube videos are 30fps, looks like dup frames resulting in choppiness. Just sayin'.

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion

There's a post in the first Dragon Box thread that justifies the brightness. It has to do with NTSC-J formatting displaying the encoded material brighter than NTSC-U, thus making the original D Box darker, for us not in Japan anyways. At least that's what I got from it. I can't really remember the ...

Re: Dragon Box Z 2's Hands On Discussion

Bleh I hate how it's still brighter than it should be. I really wish Funi did something to correct/compensate for the color standard differences. Goku/Gohan/Vegeta's etc hair should be a deep, rich black, not a dark gray.

Re: Dragonball Z Season Sets - BluRay? Confused to the max!

Would be a DNR'd upscale anyway... Err, no. It'd be DVNR'd to death, but it would be a native 1080p release. FUNimation scanned the film masters at 1080p when they did their abortion of a release (which is what this BD release would relate to, not the DragonBoxes). Though, seeing how bad it looked ...

Anyone else slightly grumpy Funi didn't utilize all the potential disc space? From the first few discs I checked they all seemed to be about 6.8gb. So there was another 1gb or so available to increase the Japanese audio bitrate or the video bitrate :/

Saying 96kbps is good enough for mono is an opinion. Not everyone has the same tolerances for compression noise.
