Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub

How is the uncut one sanitized? Be more specific. In general or in the examples I gave? Because all the dialog in the uncut dub I referenced was already tame. Cartoon Network shows use the word butt all the time. And the edited version changed it to back. Plenty of kids show say sexy (including DBZ...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub

I mean the thing is they didn’t? There was enough dialog differences between the two often completely tame dialog in the uncut dub would be even more tame in the edited version. It seemed like the sanitized uncut dub was produced first and the Toonami safe version was further edited down from that ...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub

I wouldn’t say the edited dub was too sanitized for a TV-Y7 rating. The problem is the uncut dub is TV-14 (the same rating Family Guy gets) and is overtly sanitized I meant too sanitized for use in an uncut dub, because Funi just lazily ported over dialog from the edited version on Toonami. I mean ...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub

Passable for Toonami back in 2001, but really showing its age today since Kai's dub showed Funi can handle the franchise better. The voices were a mixed bag and the adaptation was too sanitized for TV-Y7 (although understandable). I wouldn’t say the edited dub was too sanitized for a TV-Y7 rating. ...

Re: Missing Frames in Japanese Dragon Boxes?

If I recall correctly, one of the proposed explanations for the so-teeny-tiny-most-people-won't-notice-it color differences between the R1 and R2 Dragon Boxes is that, while both of the video formats are NTSC, NTSC-J (the R2 box's format) transmits video signals in a slightly different manner to th...

Re: How many versions/dubs aired on YTV?

Kai has yet to air in Canada at all, but if Toon-A-Vision pick it up (which they might; send emails, people! Ask for the Ocean version though, or I will be very cross at you), then that'll bump Canada's versions total up to seven or eight. The CW broadcast was seen on some Canadian cable systems th...

Re: making custom DVDs?

I once did something similar with the steelbook DVD. The Pioneer dubs seem to have been cut a little differently around reel changes and sometimes between shots. It would be easy to re-adjust with an audio editing program

Re: Telemundo TV Broadcast

How they handled Krillin getting impaled? i know PR got the scene without any cuts, i suppose they used the same master, and yeah, it was kinda surprising they aired that thing nearly uncut with a Y7 Rating I remember it not being much different from the Japanese version, but I'd have to dig throug...

Re: The UUE TV Broadcast

It was Adult Swim, so DBZ was on the tamer end. UUE 1-67 didn’t exactly replace the old seasons 1 and 2, which frequently were returned to in reruns. I don’t think the UUE was ever edited for daytime CN. Anyway, Toonami started to wind down after 2006. It was the orange bricks that solidified the U...

“A guy on a forum in 2006 had insider detail that it was just a mistake that they accidentally aired the episode completely uncut in a special edition run of DBZ literally titled “Dragon Ball Z Uncut ” Ha ha ha ha ha. Re: The UUE TV Broadcast

It wasn’t by accident! They literally advertised those episodes as being Uncut https://youtu.be/9pvsM2TSyrM No. In the link I posted, there was a guy who claimed Cartoon Network put in the wrong tape that night and that scene was supposed to have originally aired edited. He supposedly had connectio...

Re: The UUE TV Broadcast

Did CN really aired the whole thing visually uncut? Like, didn't they ever visually changed anything? (Naked Gohan, Hell, Raditz and Goku bleeding, etc) I recall it was uncensored from beginning to end. They even aired Goku's nudity in the Princess Snake episode (by accident!). Here's a talkback th...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much

The animation quality of the original Dragon Ball TV series, painted on cels and photographed on film, is very much on par with other anime TV productions of the era such as Urusei Yatsura. Not as clean or stable as a digital production like Super. Some of the shots in Super could reach theatrical q...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much

The original Dragon Ball manga and anime would be considered politically incorrect today (atleast by Western standards). I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but the tasteless jokes/crass humor were common in shounen fare of the 1980's. A modern remake may tone down a lot or adapt things diff...
