Re: Dub Changes That Don't Bother You...that much

Apart from that, I'm a little conflicted on the Broli dub additions. I couldn't help but chuckle at "Perfect landing..." and "Have fun, Freeza!" but they're ultimately pointless additions, and while I give the above changes a pass because they're from a time when dub changes wer...

Got a clip of that dialogue? I forgot that episode.

Re: Aspects of the dub script you prefer.

I think some adlibs like "Let's go see Yamcha" work when it's reasonably in-character for it to be said. I mean, I thought it works with Vegeta if nothing else. Lord knows that Super's dub has NOTHING on the original DBZ dub scripts in terms of being "off the mark."

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 12/25/18!)

Though there's the matter of him not exactly answering for his, erm, past transgressions, I feel like Vegeta's shift from bad guy to anti-Hero to (relatively) good guy is a lot more smooth in comparison to a lot of other villains with similar character arcs. It's more of a case-by-case basis but I s...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 12/25/18!)

I don't think you'll make any enemies here since people eat "critical analysis of Dragon Ball" for breakfast even if some opinions are more unpopular than others. I think the Anime fixed Vegeta's inclusion in the group where he hops into space with a ship Dr. Brief made in a filler story b...

Eh... I would've accepted it better if they used his final words to Freeza from the Kai dub's first episode. Otherwise, Sonny Strait makes it work for all its worth.

Aspects of the dub script you prefer.

Much as I come down on how wildly altered the early DBZ dub scripts were, I'm glad that this sense of "looseness" was not fully lost when FUNimation went on in adapting future Dragon Ball media into English post-DBZ Kai. While more faithful, it's hardly ever the stereotypical stiff transla...

I always felt the Tennis thing wasn't exactly a bad thing for fans overall mostly because, well, Tennis isn't exactly a bad sport. I'm not a regular watcher but there's something to be said about how a player's gotta be on their toes to match their foe blow for blow or it's all over. For Dragon Ball...

I wonder if this would've been a thing period if, say, Toei didn't even conceive of the "Z."

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

It can sometimes ruin the mood to have people talking too much. Yeah, added dub dialogue seemed to be in service of filling up dead air during the Anime's more dragged out moments. It's definitely something FUNimation moved past (certain gag dubs not withstanding) but it's often a commonality in An...

How good was the Saiyan Saga as a jumping on point?

I mean, when you think about it, kids starting off there should've be pretty darn confused as to who Goku or Piccolo even was. To say nothing of the other Z-Fighters who's connections to Goku were never explored so they're just other super powerful guys that Goku knows. Hell, they just throw things ...

Did Super have to redo Battle of Gods and Ressurection F for their plot?

A weird question, I know, but I find myself wondering why Dragon Ball Super didn't just pick up where Ressurection F left off rather than redoing the movies from scratch with some, erm, spotty animation when compared side by side. I mean, Tangled and Big Hero Six didn't have to redo the original mov...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 8/20/18!)

I'm glad you talked about the mystery being solved immediately because I honestly never understood the people who praise the Cell arc for that aspect, when it's done so poorly. More like the lead up to Cell's reveal was pretty damn good for all that it's worth. That's not to say that keeping the my...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 8/20/18!)

I think giving away Cell’s mystery is a trap that many writers tend to fall into when it comes to conveying exposition. There’s a burning desire to finally get it all out, all the ideas and concepts you crafted in this instance the first chance you get. The problem is how some fail to see how it mig...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

It's a clear, purposeful change of dialogue that fits with FUNi's previous track record. I'm not saying it ruined the dub, but it was clearly a change that they made in an otherwise very, very faithful dub that wasn't afraid to make Goku sound exactly like Goku would sound. Are Goku's friends not a...

Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

I guess I just more meant that they were pretty accurate in translating the lines, including the ones that made Goku seem less heroic. So this one specifically seemed weird to slip through. Sounds like a nitpick to me, the lines are almost identical. When his friends die, he has always put avenging...

I certainly don’t like the line myself, but a recent line from Hit in the dub of Super has been making the rounds. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UjBrutrbLHQ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KrNSochPNO8 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3_xWu7b-X94 http://comicbook.com/anime/2018/07/15/dragon-ball-super-du...
