Re: Do You Prefer Pre- "Battle of Gods" Z Movies in Full Screen or Widescreen
I’ll watch both depending on how I feel that day, but I prefer the matted widescreen framing for sure. It’s cool to see the extra artwork in the open matte versions, but it’s rare that the 4:3 version of a shot feels like it has something that makes me feel like I’m missing out by watching the matte...

Re: What does the Japanese fandom think of the West’s version of Dragon Ball?
There’s a video on YouTube that translates some of the more infamous classic Funimation dub moments into Japanese, which has some interesting comments from Japanese fans. https://youtu.be/PTZfG-pAwt8 Some examples: “I roared with laughter at Goku’s speech.” “This is beyond awful lmao. I hope the gra...

Re: If you were to rank all the scores in Dragon Ball
My ranking is just for the Z and Kai scores. 1. Kikuchi 2. Faulconer Productions 3. Wasserman 4. The AB Ocean dub library music from Mega Man and Monster Rancher. It’s weird watching Z with the Ruby Spears Mega Man theme playing, and I like it. 5. Sumitomo 6. Yamamoto. I never really liked his score...

Re: Why doesn't Goku talks wrongly in the dubs?
I read somewhere on here a few days ago that Goku speaks normally in the actual Manga or he doesn't sound as hillbilly as he does in the show. Can someone confirm or deny this for me? Goku speaks in an accent in the manga as well. A common thing is that he replaces the sound "ai" with &qu...

Re: Dragon Box the movies vs the rest of the Dragon Box's audio question
The first few (DB 1-3, DBZ 1-3) were released open matte, but starting with DBZ movie 4 they were released letterboxed.DB1984 wrote:Do the Toei VHS tapes of the movies have the master audio? Also what about the aspect ratio on those?

Re: Dragon Ball Sōshūhen (Digest Edition) ending
Doesn't that kinda... completely fly in the face of the whole "Read the series as it was presented in Weekly Shonen Jump!" thing? That was not the ending printed in Weekly Shonen Jump. That ending didn't even exist until years later. The Sōshūhen also used "Soba" for Shu's name....

Fan service isn't just boobs. ABED's talking about stuff like bringing back popular characters who've been gone for a long time, or having a fight between characters that people really want to see.

Re: Questions about the VHS tapes
So if I'm looking to buy the entire series on vhs, I'm just going to have to search tape by tape? Ugh, that sounds like a lot of work. Probably just going to get the saiyan saga and that will have to tide them over until they are older. The cut versions of the Saiyan and Namek sagas were also relea...

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
As many of you are aware, Kikuchi used the exact same style of compositions for late 1960s and early 70s shows like Tiger Mask, Kamen Rider, and Mazinger Z Kikuchi didn't score Mazinger Z. That was Michiaki Watanabe. To be fair, it's a little hard to measure up in thematic density when most of the ...

Re: Questions about the VHS tapes
OK, see this is why I am confused. The vhs tapes are edited or not edited? I know the Saiyan and Namek are edited but everything after that seems to be titled uncut. So what do the "uncut" tapes entail? Are they the toned down tv versions or not? Both. FUNi released two versions, the uncu...

Re: Questions about the VHS tapes
I also remember the edit tapes are the same as the ones that air on Toonami (So no blood, swearing, nudity and words like Kill). All of the VHS copies of DBZ did use the replacement scores too. From the Ginyu Saga onward, they had blood even on Toonami. The only blood they edited/weren't alowed to ...

Re: Questions about the VHS tapes
So maybe I'm missing something but I still have a question regarding vhs releases. The Saiyan and Namek arc for vhs are edited. But the rest are "uncut"? Can someone break that down for me? For instance is the uncut vhs the same as the Orange Bricks dvd releases with blood and cursing? Or...

Re: What Funimation could do regarding Vegito's name in the future
I believe that's just a fan theory as fusion creates a completely separate being. There is no controlling one. It doesn't even look like there is a dominant personality trait, as all fusions are pretty much jokers who don't take things seriously unless they really have to. Yeah, that does sound lik...

Re: Are there people that actually hate the Vegeta's Hells Bells music?
Footnote: I've never heard music from the 60-70's that sounds like Dragon Ball, but I could be mistaken. Well, there is the stuff that Kikuchi himself made in the '60s and '70s, but that should be obvious because it's the same guy: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0W12gsUMAI - https://youtu.be/kz...

As for adaptations, didn't some European dubs ignore the Kakarrot thing and go with "Vegeku" or something?

Well, I assumed it was an Australian release as all of the other tapes this person was selling were Australian releases, I first thought it was a Southe...

Interesting to see that text on the back in Chinese characters. It says 魔王復仇 (Revenge/Vengeance of the Demon King). There was apparently a Cantonese release of the film under that name.

Re: Why is the physical manga so DARK?
For starters, it's dark because it was coloured originally but Viz didn't want colour pages in its manga. The Japanese editions of the tankōbon have grayscale color pages as well. As far as Japanese releases, only the kanzenban and sōshūhen have the color pages in color. My only guess for why the o...
