Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

Kikuchi was 100% definitely chosen to do the music for Dragonball because he did the music for Dr. Slump. So that's probably what your actual question should be.

Re: Petition to mark March 8th as "International Dragon Ball Day"

...not only does it feel rather morbid to mark a day we learned of the death of an author by commemmorating it as a day in honor of ONE of the franchises he created (screw the other stuff he made, and the guy himself, apparently), but... there already IS an "international Dragonball Day", ...

Re: Is Dragon Ball SD worth to buy?

I've read it a bit off and on, and... it's really just Dragon Ball with different art and the occasional minor change. Extremely uninteresting and pointless in general. It's not funny either? It's a retelling, not a parody, so it doesn't attempt to be any funnier than the original material it's ret...

Re: What are the worst Dragonball hot takes you've ever heard?

I remember we had one member named Gokurulez that try to agrue that Dragon Ball is more popular than Christianity It probably is in certain Asian countries where Christianity is a relatively minor religion. Yeah, I don't think that's all that incorrect a take, really. China is a VERY big place and ...

Yeah, it sure is surprising that the target audience finds a character the target audience is meant to find funny to be funny.

Re: Actual Celebrities doing dubbing on Dragon Ball (Star Talents)

Weirdly, while dubbing in the US seems to have much better luck with celebrity voice actors, regular non-dubbing voice acting has a much bigger problem with hiring celebrities who clearly have no business voice acting. To be fair, American anime dubs tend to exclusively hire non- celebrities that c...

Re: When Funimation got the license for Dragon Ball were they aware of the Creative Corp Product dub?

Not sure if it mattered though, I always felt Funimation (and the fandom) way overexaggerated how bad those Toei Engrish scripts were. There were plenty of times in those first 3 seasons where the English dialog is pretty close (the Raditz episodes really weren't that far off for example) and even ...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

This thread sure went places. But um, whether you want to call it "forced diversity" or something else, there's absolutely something to be said about how "diversity" way too often just gets interpreted as "more black people", which is extremely noticable here in Europe ...

Re: One Piece Remake, fans are so lucky...

Monthly manga vs weekly anime is an imprtant thing here and I wonder if it wasn't a case of Takeuchi simply relying herself on the anime portrayals of the girls and and affinity for the cast the audience developed because of it. Kind of, I guess. The big difference is that with most manga the autho...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Not only do editors have veto powers, it was also less "sell better" and more "not get canceled". Readers weren't responding that well to the series and Torishima was coming up with a way to steer in into a better received direction.

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Right. As cool as it is that Masako Nozawa got to voice Goku well into giant pecs and abs of steel adulthood, it says more about Toei's unwillingness to change actors when the characters are aged up (or aged down!) than the idealized narrative that Nozawa was just so good that Toei had to look past...

Re: One Piece Remake, fans are so lucky...

fyi the original Sailor Moon TV anime was never meant to be an adaptation of the manga. The manga and the anime started at the same time and were always intended to be two different ways of presenting the same story - kinda like what Super ended up doing, really, but in Sailor Moon's case the two ve...

Re: Any FUNi dubisms you still find yourself saying from time to time?

I remember way back in the early 2000s (and probably since at least the 90s) most fansites used Buruma anyways. I have no idea if that's more accurate or if that's the equivalent of saying Bejita and Furiza, phonetically correct but wrong. The character ブルマ is named after ブルマ, a garment that's comm...

The reveal of this remake, while we get that Chibi Special, makes me question everything. I get that OP is the golden goose, been so for 2 decades, and looks to be so 2 decades more with this remake. But Dragonball is profitable too...right? Surely a remake would break bank......right? Dragonball i...

Re: When will Nozawa and Horikawa be replaced?

You know, people say they their performances are so compromised, as if they're so much harder to listen to than in the original run. While Horikawa wasn't exactly BAD in Kai, if you compare his delivery of the same line from the same scene in Z and Kai, the quality difference is crazy. And that was...
