Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

FUNimation really loves pushing out DNR'd blurry video as it is cheap and easier. If they really wanted to save more money, they could downscale the video to 480i, stick 4 times the episodes on a single disc, reduce the amount of discs being pressed, quality wouldn't suffer, and the people buying th...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

If you were curious about the truth, you would be more patient and wait for the truth, not just try to spin a narrative. Sorr, but as interesting as your post was, its still a narrative spun on feelings and some light facts to make it more believeable, which in this fandom is a dangerous thing inde...

Re: Dragonball on CRT

Watching SD Dragon Ball material on a CRT can be a nice experience, can also be very nostalgic. I myself almost bought a couple Sony PVM/BVM broadcast monitors a couple years ago for old games and DVDs sourced from analogue tape masters, but ultimately I decided I didn't want them taking up floor sp...

Re: One of the original DBZ directors says FUNi Blu-rays where "what it was supposed to look like to begin with"

While watching the Blu-ray special feature with Justin Cook, he actually mentions that one of the original directors on Dragon Ball Z liked the look of the Blu-rays and had very positive things to say about them. This very information is stated at 16:46 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

According to Lee Tockar, this baby's coming out soon ! Guess at least the NDAA is over. Been waiting for a sign, looks like I need to get moving on finding/buying a Sound Card to capture AC3 streams. Looking forward to finding out who's returning, who's been replaced, and how well this new producti...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

The music has already been replaced. A replacement of a replacement would make the show better due to the significant limitations of the former replacement music. Given that company thought it to be a good idea to recycle the MegaMan score, as if to think it fit the tone of the show, and the idea o...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

Seeing as Canada has not seen a broadcast of Kai to date despite the FUNimation dub having been available for quite some time, I do wonder if this dub might actually appear on Cartoon Network 6-12 months from now, that's if Cartoon network is given some Anime programing, that is the only real possib...

Re: Ocean dub music question

Ukdb.net and it's offshoots had the famous (in UK fandom) "Duncan." He was a REALLY funny guy and was an expert on the subject. I remember he once said something like, "the French tied up rights to English DBZ in the UK and that's why they don't get dvd's there" or something. (I...

Re: Ocean dub music question

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7zxFule03w&feature=related We know based on interview quotes that Funimation altered the music for DBZ to charge royalties for their soundtrack and to try and "Americanize" the soundtrack. What I'm curious about is... why did Ocean replace the original ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

To me, both have their pros; Abell has a powerful voice and is the closest to the Japanese version while Erickson's version is slightly better acted. Abell's Trunks is a hollow, empty, limited take on the character which sounds nothing like Takeshi Kusao's take or preformance. I don't mind an actor...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

But it's pretty inconsistent. If you think about it, most of the aliens learned English/Japanese not from Earth, so why is Jeice the only one with an accent? Edit: I guess a better way to phrase that would be that if all these characters learned the same language in different parts of the universe,...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

I'd prefer the Kikuchi score over a replacement as well. No matter how good the composer is, there's a very good chance that there will be music playing in every single scene. I'm also unsure of McNeil getting to play Jeice again. I just don't want the character to have a random foreign accent (esp...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

They have already finished replacing the entire score in all 98 episodes. The original broadcast score is Kai's score despite all the lifting from other sources, and it's final shelving by Toei, it's Kai's intended score in my opinion. I expect that they'll use the Kikuchi music replacement score, ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

Judging from past history, the Ocean Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT dubs which used the repective shows original score, I would assume that they would use the Alternate/Replacement Kai Score with the Kikuchi composed pieces. The Yamamoto fallout may have thrown a wrench in their plans, I haven't bee...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

Wasn't the last case with the Westwod dub also tight-lipped? Internet social media has seen 12 years worth of evolution since 2000, it's easier to get info then it it was 12 years ago. When FUNimation dumped Ocean, people thought that was the end of that, nobody expected a then Studio contractor(no...

Are there any credits to show who worked the authoring of the Blu-Ray disc? Credits for Java menu, encoder, graphic artists etc?

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

If the Compressionist couldn't get an almost artifact free transparent encode with a peak bit rate of 29Mbits with h.264, I would question the competence of the Compressionist Funimation has on staff. Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

For some reason you seem particularly keen to overcriticise the Ocean Westwood dub. The Buu saga was certainly not "robotic" and overall was their best work. The Westwood Dragon ball Z dub was the last Dragon Ball production the company worked on as a whole in Vancouver, given it's flaws,...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming.

Well, we'll see who will (if) any reprise their roles. That screen shot was mentioned much earlier in the thread if memory serves me.... but this Freeza thing must be recording the very first episode. Think about it. Freeza is like the first to appear in the show. I know they don't have much done a...
