Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Funimation's US DBOX release is honestly great and as much as many will get upset when I say this, it was on the market long enough to get picked up by the fans like us. I remember when it was announced back at Otakon 2009 and we all followed the release closely back then. It was of course going to...

Re: When it comes to JPN Names/Terms what/how do you decide what to keep as is or translate/adapt?
I will use the Japanese term for pretty much everything. Tricky situations/exceptions: -I alternate between Krillin and Kuririn. I wish I could smack someone involved with the official companies in the face when I see "Klylyn" or some such. -"Kami-sama" becomes "God" be...

Re: Broli and Coola are really canon?
Toriyama came up with the character designs, but did not create the characters themselves. Of course, Coola is Freeza and Broly says one word; when the outline is that simple, who wants credit for "creating" it?

Re: If Popeye takes spinach, can he hold his own against Goku?
At first I was like "Popeye's a brute with no formal training, he'd probably just barely make it into the 21st Tenkaichi Tournament" but I skimmed through Wikipedia just to make sure I wasn't incorrect about Popeye actually training, and stumbled upon this: Another is his near-saintly pers...

Re: LGBT in DragonBall
And again, the only reason we even know some characters are straight is due to gags or forced romance to produce offspring. A gay character can't do the latter and the former (considering the maturity of Toriyama's humor) would be a repeat of General Blue. I don't understand this. A "this char...

Re: Goku's Morality
I feel as if the premise behind the original question is flawed. All the examples given for Goku's "killer instinct" are special circumstances. Tambourine is a dick who murdered Goku's best friend; Tao was a cockroach who kept coming back and in that moment where Goku kicks the grenade bac...

Re: "Zenkai" - 全開 or 全快? (Also, questions on origins of the term in Western fandom)
I was always under the impression the word popped up in dialog; either when Vegeta is trying to get Kuririn to blast him in the stomach, or when Cell receives his own "zenkai" after exploding on Kaiou's planet; and Western fans co-opted it as a proper noun. It's looking like Puto put toget...

The release of both the Orange Bricks and FUNimation's DRAGONBOX sets, "Goku is from outer space now!", everything involving Kenji Yamamoto since the beginning of his contributions to the series... The creation of both Janemba and Hildegarn stemming from the notion that Broly was a peak, m...

Re: A very important 10 year anniversary just passed (and your opinion on it)
There was nothing "wrong" with the Ultimate Uncut footage. They unceremoniously stopped releasing those, for whatever reason. I feel this debacle was born out of unnecessary hubris; executives that could not leave well enough alone, too many cooks in the kitchen, etc. We will never know fo...

"Let's Go To The Piccolo's Planet" and "Look Dad, That's The Earth" are highlights. The second one sounds like Freeza is a child who saw a toy in the window he wants.

Re: Is Goku a self-insert?
Masako Nozawa gave a recent interview(for either BoG or Super ) where she comments on how alike Goku and Toriyama can be in there easy-going ways; neither of them spend too much time worrying or dwelling on the past. It might have been BoG , considering Goku is literally wearing Toriyama's blue trac...

Re: Defining fandom generations
Building off of what Mike and Kunzait have already said, The U.S.'s "5th generation" would have to be the "video game" generation. I know that's super-broad and sort of diminishing DB 's history with gaming, but the 3 DBZ PS2 games plus the Sparking! series definitely kept the sh...

Re: Is there a letter K naming scheme on Goku's teachers?
My mind would leap more towards thinking there's a connection to the "ka-" beginning than strictly the letter K, considering the phonetic nature of the Japanese language, but even then it is probably just a coincidence.

Re: Were all of the fillers in the original anime series that bad?
There's very little filler in the way of brand new storylines. I've taken less to the "Goku's training around the world" arc than that first high when I was introduced to them. Minus the InoShikaCho and Konkichi episodes, they are not that great. One of these days I will actually pay atten...

Re: You think some fans are destroying the Dragonball Community??
I always felt that what separated Dragon Ball fans from that of other series is that at the very least everybody pretty much liked the story of the original manga. I don't see this at all. There's no shortage "if only this was different" or "this character should've done this" s...

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
Strange coming from a fan of Bleach. Ichigo never really liked being a Soul Reaper. He just wanted to protect his friends, similar to Gohan. Anyways, I can't see how these guys could be the most annoying when we have the Pilaf gang. Ichigo was always pragmatic. He never stood around shaking wonder ...

Re: Who is the most annoying character?
Vegeta is such an oroboros of a person. I'm not invested in his growth at any point because it's rooted in servicing himself and only himself. Gohan does nothing but we have to look at him a lot. It's not interesting to watch somebody who clearly doesn't want to be there.

Re: Is any villain in the franchise irredeemable?
I'd say the biggest difference between Freeza and Vegeta is that you can sort of argue that Vegeta has lived his life, at the very least, under the thumbs of Freeza, Zarbon, Dodoria, Ginyu, Reacoom, maybe Butta, and maybe Jheese. Probably King Cold, too. Freeza is the top thumb and had never had to ...

Re: Why is Gohan the only one to get weaker without training?
Goten and Trunks were never able to do anything separately anyway. It seems to be presuming too much to say they definitely have not gotten weaker; how could you even tell?
