Upscaling the Movies using AI Machine Learning
The product: Topaz Video Enhance AI Source: Dragon Box The Movies SD rips Output: 1080p I know both FUNimation and Toei has put out their own "HD" releases of the movies, but IMO both version leave a lot to be desired. A large portion of the fandom (here at Kanzenshuu) still prefer the Dra...

Re: Dragon Box and 30th Anniversary in Plex
Check out the free tool MKVToolNix. You drag a file into the program and it lays out all of the streams inside it (video stream, audio streams ((tracks)), subtitle streams, chapter set, etc.) You can select an audio track and tell it you want it set to default. You can also outright remove streams i...

FUNi's SE and JPN BGM Broadcast quality?
I was just wondering, in FUNimation's English dub with Japanese BGM audio track, are the sound effects and background music audio quality to the level and clarity of the broadcast audio? Or are they sourced from the Dragon Box audio?

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Can someone post screen-compares of later episodes? IIRC, the first episode is in way worse shape than the others, so FUNi would of course be cropping much more in that episode.

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
Kai is another that I'd consider (those shots seriously look terrific), but I don't own the Blu-rays, so I'd need somebody to loan me those. Plus, quite a few episodes, so I'd prefer having a decent size "team" working on it together . Too big a project for just myself . I was suggesting ...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
We have to apply this filter to the redesigned Dragon Box images and correct the colors to make it look more similar. Can you do that? :) I cannot, but it appears that @sumpter360 can at the very least do the Dbox upscale. As for the color, I have a few ideas and the two best follow the same princi...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
It also stands to be said that this program can do the AI upscaling without the digital cleanup. I wonder if the above posters wouldn't mind showing us the same screenshots uprezzed, but keep the "Suppress Noise" option turned off. Frames from Kai may not fair much better since the source ...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
Still doesn't look good to me. https://i.imgur.com/ihRhVFZ.png If you're sitting so close to your screen that this is your entire field of vision, I'd say you're sitting too close. No video will look good if this is your whole frame of view. How about also zooming this close to a 480p screenshot of...

What do you think about this? Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
The majority of Dragon Ball Z was shot on 16mm film compared to the more standard 35mm. QTEC who remastered the series applied some fairly liberal DNR to the footage, which when combined with the already smaller format 16mm film resulted in pretty soft overall image quality. However, there were a f...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
I bought this set but I'm aware its not a great release. and I want better. Problem is, unfortunately if you have bought it, then you've already given Funi your money, and they have no reason to give you better . This seems a little defeatist. Think back, FUNi never had a reason to give us better t...

What's your most convincing comparison for why grain is important to detail?
Preface: I showed my girlfriend this http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/EJ1MNNNU and asked her which looks better and she said the Blu-ray Season Set! (Guess we gotta break up now  ) She cited not liking the grain of other releases and she likes the bright colors, cr...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
Look at the background and the clouds. I was looking at that too, and I wonder if it would look better if they didn't sharpen as much? Is there a way to DNR and sharpen only solid lines (if that makes sense) While it certainly doesn't look as good as the FUNi Raw, it seems to me the Black Brick has...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
It's not perfect, but here's a v2 of the Goku Gohan, cliffside including the Blu-ray Season Set. The Black Brick looks like a decent step up, quality-wise compared to the Blu Seasons!

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release
Hey all! After seeing the website Frame Compare used in the FUNi 30th Anniversary release's thread here, and I got inspired to make a few of my own! Mine compare the FUNi Black Brick to the other 3 releases most say are the "best" out there. The Dragon Box Z, DB Kai, and FUNi Raw Reel. You...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
I edited my initial post adding a compare of the Freeza image.
Also, TL;DR I've decided to make more frame-compares of the screens where we have it from all 4 sources: DBox, Kai, Black Brick, and FUNi Raw Film. I love seeing the comparisons, as well as making them, so I hope y'all do too

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
A compressed JPEG image does not actually show the true quality but rather gives a rough idea of what it looks like. Dragon Ball Kai in its untouched HD quality looks gorgeous and even moreso with the cinematic and atmospheric Kenji Yamamoto score. Shame the whole series cannot be watched with Yama...

Re: Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
Yeah, seeing that comparison of the 1080 vs 720 vs 480 is the confirmation I was looking for, and why it's understandable that I thought it was just upscaled 480p footage. I'd like to see some comparisons of FUNi's 30th set to Kai in 1080p.

Toei's Dragon Ball Kai remaster
I'm rewatching my old Dragon Ball Kai Blu-rays and boy, does the picture look soft! Did we ever get confirmation that the original Z footage used was actually remastered at 1080p for this release? Or is it just 480p footage color-corrected and upscaled to HD? EDIT: I made a frame-compare of the shot...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Anybody else notice the reservations numbers are actually down from yesterday? I guess the pre-order cancellations are finally being accounted for. I wonder, if the numbers don't get back up to 3,000 will the set still come out?
