Questions about Piccolo killing Goku and Raditz

First, do you think Piccolo was happy when he killed Goku during the fight with Raditz? Second, what do you think Piccolo would have done had he not known that two more, stronger Saiyans were coming to Earth? Do you think that, with Goku and Raditz out of the way Piccolo would try to conquer the wor...

Re: Why does Puar like Yamcha?

Well, Yamcha was pretty strong and if I recall correctly Oolong bullied Puar when they were in shapeshifting school so maybe Puar initially saw Yamcha as a person who could protect him from bullies. I am sure that Puar’s shapeshifting abilities also proved useful to Yamcha during his career as a ban...

Why do rocks float up during power ups?

In Dragon Ball, when a character powers up or charges an attack, you often see rocks and debris start to float up into the sky. Is there an in-universe explanation for this phenomenon? Any theories regarding this matter?

Which villain did Goku hate the most?

Of all of the many villains Goku faced in his life, which one do you think he hated the most and why? I think this is a tough question, but I would have to say Piccolo Daimao, because Goku showed absolutely no mercy at all toward either the Demon King or his minions.

Any thoughts?

What accounts for the revival of Dragon Ball?

What accounts for the recent revival of Dragon Ball ? There has been a good deal of new output lately and I am not sure why that is the case. Is it an attempt to ride the wave of '80s/‘90s nostalgia that is becoming more apparent as that generation gets older? Is Toriyama genuinely that interested i...

Re: Piccolo and Vegeta discuss the afterlife

The conversation is indeed in the original Japanese version of both the manga and anime, and if the way you've described it in the dub is accurate, then it's one of the handful of examples of FUNimation dubbing things fairly faithfully during the Boo arc. I'm not sure how specific we've had the sys...

Piccolo and Vegeta discuss the afterlife

In the English dub of the anime, right before Vegeta sacrifices himself in an attempt to kill Fat Buu, he asks Piccolo if he would see Goku in the afterlife. Piccolo states that Vegeta would not be allowed to keep his body in the afterlife and that he would not see Goku, as Goku’s keeping his body i...

Why did Piccolo hate Kami so much?

Why did Piccolo seem to hate Kami so much? I know they were opposite sides of the same original Namekian and that probably had a lot to do with it, but was there something else, something deeper? I ask this because Piccolo could have merged with Kami at various points in the series to become much mo...

Re: How would you feel about a movie that...

I think it would be a great idea but it will be tough to make if the movie is meant to take place after the end of the manga. This is why I think prequels are the way to move the franchise in more interesting directions. Few characters are relevant in terms of fighting after the Buu saga, so it will...

How many Earthlings are aware of ki?

Among Earthlings, how widespread do you think the knowledge of ki is? I don’t necessarily mean ki manipulation, as it is clear that only the best martial artists have that skill, I am just thinking of a general awareness of ki as a force or power.

Any thoughts?

Re: why does everyone in ROSHI's family have such a long lif

I always assumed that they had found some secret to extreme longevity, if not immortality. Muten Roshi has a pretty laidback lifestyle; I can't see that guy having much stress. Baba is a magician, right? She can move between the worlds of the living and the dead, so perhaps she found some magical sp...

Re: Have you ever had a crush on a DB character as a kid?

When I was a kid I had a crush on Android #18. I thought she was so cool compared to the other women in the story because she was a fighter and she was gorgeous. Now that I am older I am able to appreciate the character more from a design perspective.

How were #17 and #18 enhanced?

How exactly were #17 and #18 enhanced? I know they have some kind of energy core in their body, but does the manga or anime ever state which parts of their bodies were robotically enhanced by Dr. Gero? For example, do they have metallic skeletons or hydraulics in their arms and legs? Any theories?

Re: How did Kuririn end up with #18?

If we are actually going to take this discussion seriously: She reminds me a lot of 7 of 9 from "Star Trek: Voyager". Someone like that is probably awkward herself in some ways, and while she is conventionally "hot", Krillin's probably got the superior social skills. When she de...

Re: How did Kuririn end up with #18?

Kuririn showed many times during the Android/Cell arc that he loved #18. He refused to deactivate her when he had a clear chance to do it, smashing the controller in the process. He showing that he literally chose #18 over the fate of the world as his decision made it very likely that Cell would rea...

Good point. I never thought of Grandpa Gohan, but you are correct. Gohan did train Goku and was really his first teacher, even before Roshi.

Re: Did the early DBZ series have more Martial Arts appeal?

I think this is very true. The early part of Dragon Ball was more “grounded” because the characters were much weaker and this gave the series a feel similar to an outlandish, funny kung fu movie. The DBZ portion of the series feels more like a Western comic book with super-powerful characters, hence...

How does one become King of Earth?

My understanding of the way government works in the Dragon World is that the Earth is united under one government headed by the King of the World. The only King we see in the story is that dog fellow Piccolo Daimao topples when he usurps the throne of Earth. Does anybody know how one becomes the Kin...

Did the fighting characters in the series become too powerful? Some folks I have introduced the series to felt that the fights in the later portion of the series were becoming ridiculous, and not in a good way. Comments often included things like “how can these guys fight and not blow up the world w...

Re: Dragon Ball Z - No plot or character development?

I don't think the plot is terribly complex or groundbreaking but it serves its purpose for an action/adventure/comedy series. I actually think Toriyama did a great job when it came to character development. As others have pointed out, the characters develop over time and there is a feeling that you ...
