Re: Dub Mistake #4,862: Piccolo Has Always Hated Gohan?
I remember that line, so it can't be a YTV only thing. I think it's meant to allude to the fact that Goku and Piccolo were still enemies during Movie 1, which is when Garlic Jr last encountered them. If Piccolo hated Goku at that time, then it would be a natural assumption for those guys to think he...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I like the Sumitomo score in Kai TFC, and consider it to be an improvement over the limited Kikuchi placement of Kai 1.0. I also much prefer "Fight it out" to the Japanese broadcast opening, which a lot of people seem to like more. I think the latter sounds more like a generic anime opening, while t...

Re: MangaUK announce TFC for UK!
For anyone who hasn't bought these sets yet parts 2 and 3 can now be bought for £14.39 . Great deal, I'd be jumping on it if I hadn't bought them previously. Base.com has those 2 for the same price, and part 1 for £13:99; https://www.base.com/fsearch.htm?search=dragon+ball+kai I'd be all over it my...

Re: ss4 started trend of overdesigned fan fictiony forms
SS4 is also considered to be the biggest redeeming quality for GT. Personally I think it looks awesome, particularly on Goku. Those fan fiction forms like SS5 do take it too far, but SS4 as is looks really cool and unique. As long as those fan fiction forms remain just that, then the trend doesn't b...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Just curious what you guys think the chances are of them repackaging this for a standard release later on. And if so, would Funimation finally do away with the 9 Season format and release it as 4 sets like it is now? And also would it be fair to compare this release to something like the DB Blue Bri...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
For £300 I'll have to say thanks but no thanks. I'd have preferred them to put out the previous Season Blu-rays, as at least they wouldn't be such a ridiculous price. The recent Batman TAS Collectors Edition Blu-ray wasn't anywhere near this expensive (episode count taken into consideration), and th...

Re: Is there a general consensus on what the worst movie is?
To be clear, I’m referring specifically to the animated movies that were distributed by Toei Animation, so Dragon Ball: Evolution and the other two live action movies don’t count. Anyway, while opinions on the movies of course vary, I’m curious if there’s any generally accepted consensus on which o...

Re: "Dragon Ball FighterZ" Official Discussion Thread
Speaking of, anyone else find it suspicious that the Goku-likes tend to be better characters on average? Like they get special treatment? When you think about the unfair kit in this game, it usually goes back to one of them- Bardock's buttons, Vegetto's autocombo, Goku Black's 2H, GT's...everything...

Re: What parts of the franchise evoke nostalgia for you?
All of it, but the Saiyan and Frieza sagas especially. Back in 2000 Cartoon Network UK would always get as far as Trunks warning Goku about the Androids, and then go back to Raditz. It was like this for what seemed like an eternity when I was a kid. I loved the Saban dub with its dark score which fi...

Wow that's a surprise. Alex Kidd was one of the first games I ever played and all these years I never knew about that connection to Dragon Ball.

Re: The differences between Toei Goku and Manga Goku
Its been a few years since I posted this topic, but I've recently been thinking about the Kaioken x20 scene. It was always a strong scene, but was made so much better in the anime with the extra bits added in. In the manga the appeal of the scene was mostly the high stakes, with Goku realising he ha...

Re: Is the Budokai/Budokai Tenkaichi games bad?
Budokai 1 still has the best 3D story mode in all of Dragon Ball games. The way the characters move and act is really detailed and it's impressive. There's no "stock animations", like in Budokai Tenkaichi/Burst Limit/Raging Blast/Xenoverse story modes. Yes Budokai 1 still has the best cutscenes for...

Re: Dragon Ball Super To Air in the UK on Pop!
Each time I see these edits I feel somewhat sad...until I remember just how major the exposure Pop is giving. BARB's released the 7-day ratings for the first week; the first two episodes were 6th and 3rd, with 126,800 and 132,700 viewers respectivley, and episode 5 was 11th with 112,000. 3 & 4 were...

Re: Is the Budokai/Budokai Tenkaichi games bad?
i've been ridiculously sick for the past couple weeks and i've been playing a lot of the HD budokai collection just too pass the time. i really can't stress enough on how clunky budokai 1 is, just the way the ki attacks work make no sense. like i swear so often the opponent just barely gets hurt by...

Re: Is the Budokai/Budokai Tenkaichi games bad?
Budokai 1 and 2 are basically your average licensed fighting games in terms of gameplay. In terms of presentation, music, and fan service they're well above average. B1 had the awesome story mode, and B2 had all those What-if forms. I also think I'm one of the few who liked the Gameboard story in B2...

Re: How much dialog was actually changed from the Funimation original uncut Z dub and the orange brick “uncut redub”
I've always felt like Schemmel's Goku didn't need redubbing as much as Sabat's Vegeta. Sabat's voice for Vegeta had changed completely by the time of the redub. While Sean's acting had improved a great deal over the years, the actual voice itself wasn't that different. Personally I've always wished ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super To Air in the UK on Pop!
I noticed Pop are now streaming the show on their Pop app for PS4. So this marks the first time the dub can be streamed in the UK, as I believe Crunchyroll only streamed the Japanese version. I'm guessing it's the same as their TV edit. I wonder if it's HD or not.

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact
Speaking of the censorship from those days, there's actually only one instance that bugs me to this day, because of how utterly ineffective it was. HFIL? That's just funny in retrospect and, say what you will about it, it at least successfully censored out the word Hell effectively enough. Next Dim...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact
I saw the Saban dub around early 2000 not long after it began airing in the UK, and also saw the Season 3 inhouse dub around the same time as we didn't have to wait long for it over here. I became very familiar with both casts around the same time and was very fond of both. I loved the performances ...
