Re: Would 17's wish restore Zamasu's faith in mortals?

If anything, seeing all of those mortals wished back might just make him more angry. They're continuing to impede his work!

Re: Has Dragon Ball used things from other materials?

As others have said, a lot of stuff from Dragon Ball's first arc is based on Journey to the West, Son Goku himself as well as his name, Kinto-un, the Nyoibo, etc. But there's also Tenshinhan, who was based on Erlang Shen. Kunzait_83 made a pretty lengthy thread here 8 years ago (!?) that covers a lo...

Re: What are some overlooked quotes or moments you enjoy?

I like how Cell's perfect form first appears literally the next page after Gohan first becomes a Super Saiyan. On re-reads, this moment stands out quite a bit as all but spelling out that they're going to be fighting each other by the time the arc is over.

Re: About how characters train in DBS

Freeza tells his dad that he's not destroying Earth in a single shot because he wants Goku to see his "new and improved" state, suggesting that the mechanical repairs have also served to make him stronger. In the original story, he's a spoiled brat who gets everything handed to him: his na...

Re: About how characters train in DBS

Adding on to that, we never see all of anyone's training regimen. We get brief glimpses. Sometimes it's relevant to the story being told to show us parts of what they did while training, sometimes it isn't. All we saw of Freeza's training in the RoF arc in Super was that he was torturing Tagoma (if ...

Re: Moro arc vs Granolah arc

I didn't really enjoy either arc very much. I'm decidedly not as much a fan of Toyotaro's longform storytelling as I am his abridged and modified retellings of other things. I'm in no hurry to re-read either, and I'm not looking forward to his next solo arc if/when that happens. I definitely liked G...

Yeah, and with how disinterested Whis sounds when he announces the winner of the match, I'm inclined to think he's in on it too.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Manga Chapter 91 - Official Discussion Thread

This chapter was the most enjoyable the manga has been for me in a long time. Which is kind of awkward given that it's largely a retelling rather than anything original. Maybe it's because I enjoyed the film more than I've been enjoying the manga's stories post-ToP, or maybe it's because the pace is...

Re: Are you sick of Goku?

Insert oft-repeated and mundane observation that Dragon Ball is a story about Goku. Ergo, if I was sick of Goku, I'd be sick of Dragon Ball, and would spend my time with another story, as I do from time to time. Which I guess is less being sick of Dragon Ball, and more just needing a break. I can un...

Re: Top 5 DB Movies

I'm a very simple man, and I like what I like for very simple reasons. Best I can do with any certainty is a top 4: DB Movie 3 is one of my favorites, because it has Tao Pai Pai in it. DBZ Movies 1-3 all hold a special place in my heart because they were the first ones I saw. In terms of both art st...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

What is most intrinsically valuable to the protagonists generally (but most specifically Goku himself) is the purity of The Fight™, to seek out new challenges and push beyond one's own limits. The martial artist protagonists obviously don't want the world to be taken over or destroyed by evil people...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?

I used to be a dubbie, but nowadays I don't think I could think any lower of Funimation's work. I also used to exclusively watch the anime, having no interest in reading the manga, but now I re-read the manga more than I re-watch the anime. --- When I was younger (and a dubbie) I really loved the Ce...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

Given that her name-drop and character description in a Toriyama Q&A comfortably pre-dates her actual first appearance in Minus, I see no reason not to assume she shouldn't retroactively be considered the real Bardock's wife/mate too, and simply went unseen and unnamed in the original TV specia...

We learned quite a bit in this one, Like Evolution Bulma and Chichi having the absolute worst last names XD Lani says that the last names are from the Evolution video game, but they're also in the novelization. And, unless the game changed Chichi's, Kaiser's slightly misremembering: it's Chichi Mc ...

Re: What Can A Tournament Of Power Part II Offer?

Across various media, several characters have new transformations to test out in the ring, including Vegeta, Gohan, Freeza, and Piccolo. There are also new fighters to recruit, such as Broli and Gamma 1; I'd include Oob there too as a part of his training in the same way the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai w...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

I mean...eh. Shrug . I think that's applying more thought than one needs to apply to the situation. I don't think there's a right answer on the subject. Gokuu ultimately does what he does because he wants to, so I don't really see the tie back to Bardock being all that important toward influencing ...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

I like the new Bardock because I feel like it sets him apart from other Saiyans. I understand growing weary of a life thrust upon you by family and societal norms and I think Bardock simply coming to a decision to try new things after a lifetime of killing and come to new conclusions about what he ...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 2/6/23!)

Were "Fliza" and "Sal" shown in the anime, or is this on merch? Toei and Shueisha aren't the same company, after all. I forget which episode, but they show up on one of Gero's computers showing the DNA makeup of Cell. MistareFusion made a joke about off model Cell actually being...
