Can someone explain why they used DNR to remove all the grain and then add a layer of fake grain on top?
Because I don't understand at all.

Re: Buu Saga Kai
So does this basically mean the 'international' version will be choc full of filler?
Because the pacing of the current Buu arc Kai has been almost perfect.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Some people also don't seem to understand that film grain is a natural optical texture of the medium Dragon Ball was made on. It's supposed to be there. You can't erase it without destroying detail at the same time. Look at this comparison of the two different Predator Blu-ray releases. DNR turned A...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Funimation's guide to a perfect DBZ Blu-ray release;
- DNR the shit out of it. Bye-bye grain, bye-bye detail.
- Crop to 16:9. Who wants to see the whole picture anyway?
Joking aside, these two points alone make this an absolutely terrible Blu-ray release.

If you want a current long running series with consistently good animation check out Hunter x Hunter (2011)
It puts most manga adaptions to shame.

Re: Dragon Ball Z more violent than Dragon Ball?
Goku literally kicks him so hard that his head explodes.
It looks like bits of skull and brain are flying everywhere.
I don't think there is anything that gruesome in the 'z' part.
Also that scan above is all kinds of messed up.

Re: Need More Info Regarding Master Audio Tapes For Dragon B
Strangely enough the audio masters of the original Dragon Ball series owned by Toei seem a lot better quality than those of DBZ.
They sound pretty good on the Japanese dvds. Not perfect, but a lot better than the DBZ ones.

It would be just like Toei to screw us by only releasing it in 16:9.
Damn them.

Re: Why is Toei Animation so cheap?
Just look at One Piece and Toriko. What's wrong with them ? Well lets take Toriko. - Inconsistent animation. - They removed pretty much all of the blood and gore. And a lot of the violence in general. - They added in their own characters, annoying ones at that. - They skipped and added content seem...

Toei are a really, really shitty animation company.
Woe betide you if your series gets a Toei animation adaption.

Re: The best release of (the first anime of) Dragon Ball
The Japanese Dragon Box would literally cost you an arm or a leg. Assuming you could even find a copy. Well, there's also the Japanese singles, which use the same video and audio masters as the Dragon Box, and they're all still readily available on CDJapan. They do cost almost the same as the DBox ...

Re: Freeza and his men all have stereotypically "gay" traits
Zarbon is clearly a slight parody of the overly effeminate pretty boy anime trope, that is seen in many, many series'. There is nothing really gay about him, he is just the 'handsome man' stereotype. As for Freeza, I can't even see that. Just because he is polite and (usually) soft spoken, doesn't r...

Re: Kai Episode 101 (20 April 2014)
Well personally I don't think all the music is trash, I fact I quite like a few of the themes. Not all of them, granted, but for me the music feels intentionally oldschool. As if it was trying to capture the feel of the late 80s/early 90s period that Dragon Ball Z was originally made. I'm not saying...

Wow some of you guys are critical to a fault. Could you elaborate on what these personal faults are with the people you're responding to / about? 'Personal faults'? Re: Why did Goku stop killing people?
Yeah, this one actually bothers me a little. Goku let Vegeta go even though he had destroyed an entire planet (although he didn't know, I'm sure he must've assumed he had done plenty of destruction). Officer Black had never directly killed anyone in the series. A similar thing with Raditz, although...

Re: Dragon Ball Z more violent than Dragon Ball?
At lot of the violence and death in Dragon Ball was played for laughs though.Valerius Dover wrote:I remember an example of bloodless carnage in the General Blue Saga with the aforementioned Blue's troops getting killed by that trap in the cave. There was no blood at all.
