Re: Ideal English Goku Voice?

I think Ian and Peter are both really good as Goku. I know people complain about Peter's accent but I think he does a good job capturing Goku's emotional range. Sean has grown on me over the years but I still think he sounds too goofy. I might also be bias because I can't stand him as a person. Appa...

Re: Schemmel says that Nozawa told him they wanted to replace her for the role of adult Goku

LOL

Sean Schemmel also came to my college back in 2013 and said he was "good friends with Akira Toriyama." I take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Re: Are There Any Updates On The Harmony Gold Dub Of Dragon Ball?

I wonder if they had issues with the content. They clearly had access to Sleeping Princess since they inserted bits of its footage into the opening and used a frame of Devil's Hand for their eyecatch. Was something about Sleeping Princess objectionable to Harmony Gold? Or maybe they thought movie 3...

Re: Nozawa and the nuances of acting being lost on the new generation of Seiyuu

Nozawa has made the comment that lately the new crop of Japanese Voice Actors arent really trained or inspired by naturalistic methods of acting but rather imitate Anime acting, creating an imitation of an imitation. How do you feel about this? It's very interesting she would say this, since that's...

Definitely was not uncut. I remember watching one episodes from the Cell Saga, where Goku and Gohan were training. The scene where Gohan accidentally lights Goku’s hair on fire was cut.

Re: Original Dragon Ball anime to be released on Blu Ray in Spain

That's because Mazinger Z was produced in 35mm. Toei Animation switched to 16mm film for TV anime productions in the middle of the '70s, so the most part of Great Mazinger and all of Grendizer were produced in 16mm. But what about Devilman? That came out before Mazinger Z, and they only did an upsc...

Re: DBZ had its own Standards And Practices Lady and other syndication facts

Cartoon Network also let Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and GT get away with a lot more than most shows. Series that Cartoon Network edited themselves had no blood, erased any references to death, or implied nudity. Though somethings varied. Like, Sailor Moon got away with depicting characters smoking ...

Re: Original Dragon Ball anime to be released on Blu Ray in Spain

From What I know, they started this fuckery when they released Galaxy Express 999 on Blu-ray in 2014, and they at least made an excuse about why it ended up just an upscale; They said the original film masters were missing and they had no choice but to upscale the digibeta masters produced for the ...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Japanese standards are becoming stricter lately, but it's still very rare to see additional censorship in home video releases except for very old contents that include now-considered-extremely-offensive terms such as kichigai (frantic), katawa (crippled), mekura (blind), and izari (lame). It's alwa...

Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Some other satellite channels like Toei Channel and Fuji TV TWO aired the uncensored version of the HD remastered footage before the Blu-ray release, but it seems that Toei now wants to completely bury the original version and treat the censored one as the only commercially available version from n...

Re: Future DB(Z) releases should be edited for it's painfully outdated LBTG+ content

Hey, gay man here. I think moving forward, they should move away from it. I mean, it's not like the offensive LGBT jokes were a core of the series. However, the content from the previous series shouldn't be erased. If anything, *maybe* put a disclaimer up, but you have to view these as products of t...

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

Keep in mind, also, that Sean Schemmel has a gay father. He's been a blowhard in the past, but I doubt he would have intentionally said anything to demean his own father. If anything, that makes him throwing faggot around even worse. If he was married to a black woman, would it be okay for him to t...

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

Sure, he might be a tool but that doesn't make what he said right. You saying that maybe he's said much worse sounds to me like you're trying to lighten the seriousness of him having used a word like "faggot". Also, whether or not there's a lot of juvenile humor that attacks gay men does ...

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

This doesn't surprise me for a number of reasons. 1. This type of humor is unfortunately kind of common with voice actors. There's a certain voice actor who tours around showing dub outtakes, and they're almost entirely homophobic jokes. No, the word "faggot" is never used, but there's a l...

Re: Dragon Ball Dragon Box have redubbed part

It was most likely changed shortly after the episode aired. A similar incident happened with Dororon Enma-kun episode 24, back in 1974. The episode title used the term きちがい (kichigai), which is discriminatory against people with mental illnesses. Reruns, and the home video release changed it to くるった...

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

While this is the case for older Toei show dubs. It isn’t so much now as the Hebrew & Viz English dubs of Sailor Moon have the insert songs. Viz leaves them in Japanese while the Hebrew dub dubbed some and left others instrumental. Yeah, they finally got their act together later on. Even the Cl...

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

I think that Toei probably sent them weird masters and either FUNi's requests for better ones fell on deaf ears or they just didn't bother asking because they frankly didn't care. This. If you watch other international dubs, you'll notice they all have the same problem. Some include songs, some don...

The 1995 dub, as well as the Blue Water dub and the TV edited Funi dub of the relevant episode, censoring Oolong's desire to molest Bulma during a drug-induced sleep he put her in, into being him trying to steal the Dragon Balls from her room while she and Goku are drugged out. Agreed. I liked cens...

Re: Babidi had the worst VA in the entire Japanese Run of DB/Z. Agree?

I really didn't like him as Babidi. Mostly because at that point his voice was so overused in Dragon Ball. I would've preferred Isamu Tanonaka or Kosei Tomita as Babidi.
