Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

Again, thatdbzguy , why do you keep ignoring my answer to your question? Did you really create this topic to get an asnwer to your question or was disrupting the community by repeating yourself the main purpose? I'm not ignoring it, I just see nothing in your response to debate about. Other posters...

What were the issues you had with the Cell saga?

The Cell arc was by far the worst written arc in DB. For me, some issues are: - It feels completely cut off from the rest of the series - Several plot points were taken from previous arcs - Too many coincidences and assaults make it feel inorganic - Underwhelming villains that accomplished little to...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

ThatDbzGuy I should add that the very comments section you posted. Defended Dbz. 1 to #89 - flutterdashing (11/03/2013) Your argument is so flawed an hypocritical that it's not even funny. A. The majority of the first episode of DBZ was filler. The whole saving Gohan thing was not in the manga. Com...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

The first is that it seems to be a point in the story where the flow of the narrative is completely cut off. There is some fluidity in the transitions from the 22nd tournament to the Piccolo arc, to the 23rd tournament, to the Saiyan arc, and finally the Freeza arc. It all kind of feels natural, li...

http://www.funnyjunk.com/channel/animemanga/Poor+Bleach+Naruto+and+One+Piece/XmbwGKz/37#37 Here's a link for you all. Read through these comments. Someone compared Bleach's first episode to DBZ's first episode, and explained through great detail why Bleach's first few episodes were full of depth, ar...

Re: Tenshinhan's behavior in the Cell Arc

Obviously, the only fighters already strong enough to be able to benefit from the ROSAT enough to maybe surpass Cell in time were the saiyans and perhaps Piccolo. Tenshinhan knew this so he didn't even want to occupy the room during that time and left it all for them. Also, the fact that Tenshinhan...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

And I don't understand why people on this site hate the Android arc. What exactly is the problem? Introduces a great character with Mirai Trunks, brings a certain degree of plot "complexity" (for DB standards, at least) with the different timelines, a good villain with Cell, excellent mom...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

Save us the trouble and provide some sources, eh? That'd be cool. Thanks! Yeah, I agree with this. I have never ever, ever heard of someone badmouthed DBZ. thatdbzguy , it seems to me that you are the only one to claim this. I really think that at this point you are gonna have to cite some sources ...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

He continued to make the Saiyan Arc because he saw Superman and was like "damn, I wanna write a story like that!" Same reason why he made the Cell Arc, except this time he watched Terminator. And don't forget he watched Cinderella and got the idea for the buu arc. And the firs...

I've just come to accept that every single character in the Cell arc was either out-of-character, or unrealistically stupid.

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

Nothing. but to me saying something sucks is not criticism. Most people that bash DBZ in favour of their own anime they obsess over usually hate on it without any real depiction of what count for flaws and how it could have been handled better. They just say its sucks or through arbitary ad hominim...

Re: Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

Nowadays, the series is constantly made fun of and ripped apart, even by the fans, thanks to Z screwing up so many things. Really? I don't see Z getting "ripped" apart or ridiculed anywhere, I would love you to show some examples of what you claim. You can't honestly tell me that you neve...

Why did Toriyama bother writing Dragon Ball Z?

What I mean is, why didn't he just end the series after the 23rd tenkaichi? That would have been a nice end to the series, and Toriyama would have been able to quit making himself miserable by constantly having to write the series. Not only that, but I think that Dragon Ball would be respected much ...

Re: Who is the greatest villain in the entire series?

King Piccolo. He was intimidating, he was developed, and he was fun. Freeza was too underdeveloped and boring. We never even found out what kind of alien race he was. Cell is the absolute worst villain I have ever seen in any work of fiction. Absolutley boring, absolutely stupid, absolutely horribly...

Did Akira Toriyama Need More Variety When Drawing Faces?

This was a discussion I saw on another site that interested me. Obviously, every artist has their own art style, but a problem some people have noticed is that Toriyama's characters mostly seem to share the same exact face. If you were to take a picture that just showed the faces of Goku, Vegeta, an...

Re: Most Overrated and Underrated Fights

Simple. DBZ fights all feel the same, whereas DB's had more variety to them. In what way are they the same? What variety does Dragon Ball have over Z? DBZ's fights all consist of the same pace, same rapid punching/kicking, same moves, and even when a new move is introduced, it's just a move we've a...

Re: Most Overrated and Underrated Fights

Overrated: DBZ fights. Underrated: DB fights. That's hardly a responds. Explain yourself. In the OP I said a DB fight is overrated. That contradicts your opinion. Unlike you I'm not only going to explain it in another topic but I explained myself for my other opinions. In fact you can legit argue t...

I don't ignore other reasons, but I'd rather not have to focus on 5 different arguments at the same time. It's just too much of a hassle.

Re: Did DBZ Overuse The "Idiot Ball" Trope?

Or maybe he was just so singlemindedly focused on getting rid of Gohan's tail that he didn't think of cutting him in half. I find that incredibly hard to believe. The option is just so obvious that there's no way Vegeta could've completely overlooked it, especially when he had the disc in his hand ...
