Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Crunchyroll Home Release Thread
Is there a release that hasn't got the green tint problem? Nope, and I don't expect there to ever be. They mistakenly baked in the incorrect white point conversion during production. You can tell because the Toei splash screen isn't green while the rest of the movie is. It's likely why the authorin...

That's a pretty misleading comparison in isolation.

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie #2 Thread: "Super Hero"
Not sure if this is against the rules, but does anyone who owns the movie know where I can find an English subtitle file for it? I've seen the movie two times already, and while it's not that difficult to understand, I still would like to properly watch it now that I have the Blu-ray. Here ya go.

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Is there a reason why AB didn't used the ProRes Dbox masters ? They couldn't get them in time - the Toei communication and approval process is exceptionally slow. Rather than use Selecta Vision's release, they decided it was better to use the materials they had and produce the best upscale they cou...

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
I do love the idea that this is somehow up for debate. It is an upscale. The very people involved in its production told me in detail how it was done. I've relayed that here. Even if I hadn't, it's so obviously an upscale that the debate is baffling in the first place. AI invents detail all the time...

Do you know if it was from European DVDs or the Japanese DVDs . If the compression is as different as the JPvsFUNi dvds (for z) that could effect it quite a lot
The Japanese ones

It is an upscale from the DVD master, yeah. DBOX ~> DNR + MPEG2 artifact filtering ~> AI upscale ~> regrain Did SV made theirs from the same source? No, SV made theirs from the actual ProRes Dragon Box masters, while AB Groupe used the already encoded DBOX DVDs hence the issues with the dark detail...

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping a lot of people will pick this up. I think regardless of whether you can play it or even understand it without subs, it's one of the products that's worth importing if you can thanks to its importance. Supporting AB Groupe's decision ...

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Just for clarity, AstroRes is a company and not a program. They have their own proprietary method of tackling things. I also entirely disagree about that A-Ko upscale being better than DB's. It looks like a bigger upgrade at a glance as the source is worse, but the actual final results are far more ...

Re: AB Video to release OG Dragon Ball on Blu-Ray
Is it me, or is it slightly vertically stretched? Or is it correct and the JP DVD is horizontally stretched? The person who posted the DBOX shots there didn't capture them in their display aspect ratio, instead he used their storage resolution. They're the same when displayed correctly - https://im...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Two of those sources are historically correct (Ajay and Geekdom), so yeah, I'm pretty sure things did in fact just change. The opposite is true. The most major "leak" by Ajay and Geekdom is the reason we are so skeptical of this one. They double and triple downed that it was coming back a...

Do we have any confirmation milkman is still working on this? Last post from him was over a year ago and it sounded like he was close to being done, and then nothing after that. He's waiting for SoM to finish their colour correction project before finishing Z and releasing the final version of DB R...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation
Shouldn't there be loads of very obvious tape marks on shot changes if no restoration was carried out? I know for the TV show, they would basically glue or tape each shot together after its film strip was developed, so you get huge marks at the top of the first frame and the bottom of the last fram...

Re: Fan group scanning/remastering of multi-generational film prints previously owned by FUNimation
That's only really half true. They're all storyboarded and animated using 4:3 layouts, but it was the later ones that started using 16:9 guides on top of the 4:3 frames to ensure it worked in both formats. Those don't exist on the early films, so they're 100% created for fullscreen and shouldn't be ...

It's worth nothing that Kineko didn't actually do any restoration yet, they just scanned and cropped it.
You can pull out that dark detail from their print just fine:
