Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

Piccolo also got more focus and development in Super than in GT. No he didn't. Their roles were different between the series. Piccolo made a sacrifice choosing to remain dead to protect the earth, regardless of if the reasoning for it makes sense to you, in context that was a conclusive turn to his...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Actually, I forgot to mention that technically Super itself doesn't have any training segments at all as what was in Super was really in ROF. Not Super's own content. That is 100% false. Super has had several of its own original training segments. Outside the ROF arc? Such as? Them casually being i...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I'm right there with you on that front. Part of the meat that made up the older sagas of Dragon Ball were the training arcs. They were where we saw how characters got from point A to point B and we usually got to hear the ins and outs of what their new strategies are and the direction their abiliti...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

It already didn't make sense for that; so why would it make sense for Freeza to do the same thing? If Freeza was able to do that it makes the whole SS fear thing ridiculous. Saiyans would be dust to him before and after the training. If the scaling ruins the story its bad scaling. I couldn't care l...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I wouldn't have given the girls fusion either since it leapfrogs two new characters through around three or so arcs worth of developments that the main characters had to achieve the long way 'round. Something like that just doesn't sit right with me narratively and it's the main reason I'm not happ...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

Wrong again. Just cause Toriyama originally intended something to be a certain way doesn't mean that way is better. Thats not what I said. His intent still has more weight to your preference. Just because you like that Toei scaled him up looks cool to you doesn't mean anything. The intent was under...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

Super features more and better character development, better animation (on average), superior fights, better antagonists, 3 arcs that surpass all of GT's, more and better contributions to the lore, more substance, better directing, etc. Its no contest. Now thats BS. Aside from this being your opini...

Re: Do you prefer “human” or “mortal” for the non-deities?

Mortal just seems logical, as they are the antitheses of gods, and a figure of creation, while humans are and should just be the homo sapiens, which it would make less sense for him to hate humans specifically. When it was translated as human I first questioned why specifically humans? They barely d...

Re: How do you think the first two arcs of Super would have been received without the movies?

The tournament arcs were always the most popular part of the original manga. But once Piccolo Daimao entered the picture it was all about world-ending consequences. I like the fact that the TOP and Champa arcs managed to combine both of the best aspects of the original manga. The Future Trunks arc ...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

SSG/SSB don't feel any stronger in the manga because all the villains are made to be fodder compared to their anime versions. That doesn't the forms look impressive at all if Toyotaro wont give them any hard earned wins with them. Whereas in the anime it was used to beat Black in his prime (Vegeta)...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

Franchise fatigue started in the Buu saga, not GT. That is a citable fact. I think it may have started even before the Buu arc but the effects were only beginning to show up during Buu. I do think GT's quality played a major part in the franchise "dying" but I'm not sure how much more it could've l...

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

A story that generates lots of theories and speculation is objectively more interesting and better than one that doesn't. That's what keeps people invested into the story's lore and boosts it potential. GT didn't have the internet at the time so there wasn't anywhere for people to do this, but with...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

If/when Goku gets around to fighting the Saiyan girls, he'll likely push them into a corner with his superior strength and fighting prowess just like in the anime. However, he won't start openly mentoring them like in the anime, but he'll still not power up right away until he absolutely needs to. ...

Re: Do you Dragon Ball can work as a Highschool story?

Only, if they could find the human equivalent to the characters in the series do. It is possible if they actually follow the events and retool them, as opposed to creating the generic high-school and just slapping on character names like DB Evolution failed with. I think as long as every core theme ...

Re: A16 should be in ToP instead of Tenshinhan

Pikkon isn't canon. If you are gonna pick non-canon characters you might as well pick Broly. Also, there is no way all characters could reasonably have an equal body count if they are not equal in power. And Arale is a gag character, I wouldn't take any that happens with her seriously. Pikkon fits ...

Re: A16 should be in ToP instead of Tenshinhan

How is arale existing now make 16's death a plothole? Honestly I wouldn't have given 17 so much relevance in the TOP to begin with. All the characters should have had a body count equally. Especially Tenshinhan which I do think the series seems to screw over with Piccolo for whatever reason incredib...

Re: Things that grind your gears

"Dragon Ball Super and/or Dragon Ball in general is just liked nowadays because of nostalgia." Such a cop out statement. No, I think there is a heavy nostalgia bias over this series that prevents people from reviewing it objectively, its gotten so bad people will attack you over if you dislike anyt...

Re: How will they fix the writing problem that Super had?

I like the comedic aspects of Dragon Ball. I think Cell and Buu were really boring, and I also think that the series should focus more on lore and less on big explosions, which is a topic I hope to discuss with someone more willing to have a productive conversation. I guess we have both said our pi...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions

Your summary is missing the most important part, which is the characters being themselves, most of the plot structure worked in the buu arc because characters contradicted themselves and not acting as themselves. For example in the Cell arc characters did some stupid things but what they did was in c...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Writing a good story is all about balance. It wouldn't be enjoyable if every interesting character got knocked off immediately in the confusion, but it wouldn't be good if the tournament of power dragged on because it showed each and every character and their whereabouts. There should be some chara...
