Re: Funimation's "remastering" process
The Blue Bricks are zoomed in a lot compared to the Dragon Box of DB and it has liberal usage of DNR. The source itself is Betamax footage which is already a few generations down from the negative.

Meant LD dates for the movies in general, not those three specifically.Robo4900 wrote:The original three DB movies were never released on LD.clutchins wrote:I love how they have dates for 8 freaking mm, but no LD release dates.

Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
I'd be fine if they just started releasing the series in 2019 and went into 2020 but yeah I doubt they are planning this right at this very moment.

Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
I just think a 4K restoration would be the best way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Z next year, or even the 35th if Funimation is still gunshy on UHD releases next year.

Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
Funimation is now owned by Sony. I wonder if that would influence their budget for a project like this.
I didn't know so many people were wishing for a Toonami dub option. I would also love this.

Re: A potential 4K release of DBZ...
I may be pushing it in terms of wishful thinking territory here but what I want here is a Criterion-level display of attention done for a 4K restoration of Z. Funimation could license those dragon box masters from Toei and do all the work for them since Toei doesn't seem to care about giving Z a pro...

A potential 4K release of DBZ...
I feel like a few years from now when 4K hits a stride with releases, this would be a perfect opportunity to scan either the original dragon box negatives in 4K or Funimation's film masters that were used for the level sets and correct the colors to a rich, non-faded pallette. And seeing that Chris ...

The right team and the right budget can remaster Dragon Ball Z properly. Funimation has neither.

Re: Were there any Dragon Ball releases on Betamax?
If you or anyone else wants me to open them up and take a look at which movies in particular I have, I'll be happy to do so. Forgot to mention, these are Chinese. I'm not sure if Dragon Ball VCD's were ever a thing in Japan. Also probably important to mention: I only ever played these once, just to...

Also would like to point out that the laserdisc audio is lossless PCM whereas the DVD soundtrack is lossy Dolby Digital

Re: Were there any Dragon Ball releases on Betamax?
Nice, although still no proof of the 1986-1988 movies on LD. However, I hear that 10th anniversary movie has a kickin' stereo mix to it.

Re: Dragon Ball Z - Speedy Dub (Namek/Freeza, Super Saiyan?!)
The real speedy dub of the series will have poorly translated titles of the Japanese names, not the same names as the Pioneer DVDs... And the speedy dub of the show does exist. Eps 7 and 8 from Vol. 4 exist out in the world of piracy. I've seen these vumes with poorly translated titles on eBay up to...

Re: Question about the Pioneer LaserDisc Ocean Dub Movies 1-3
I have heard a cap of movie 1 from pioneer and the audio compared to the DVD sounds muuuch less compressed. I always heard some sort of compression noise in the lossy soundtrack on the DVD even before hearing the LD, but hearing the LD only confirmed my suspicion. I would very much like to hear the ...

If we're being technical here, I'm almost positive that the true aspect ratios for Battle of God's and Resurrection F are 1.85, not 1.78 (16:9)...
