Re: Was Cell's core really a plothole?

I don't see that as a logical resolution, I see no reason why his core's location would have changed. And no, he didn't lose 17, he only lost 18. It's just a plot hole. Plain and simple. Cell states that the nucleus necessary for regeneration is located in his head, present tense. He never says tha...

Re: One thing I don't get about fusion!

The programming analogy is how I've always assumed magic spells work in general. The universe is like software, and the magic user in question has programmed a certain outcome into the software that is accessed via a certain command. In this case, the metamorans used magic to make it so that dancing...

Re: Was Cell's core really a plothole?

The simplest and most logical resolution between what we see and what Cell says is that the nucleus is inside Super Perfect Cell's head but not inside Perfect Cell's head. Maybe the lack of Android 17 and 18 caused Super Perfect Cell to regenerate with an altered internal physiology. I don't see th...

After SSJ was introduced, the suits behind DB no doubt realized that new forms = new toys and other new merchandise.

The best way to make Dragon Ball into an interesting story is to ignore everything that came out after the Buu saga.

It would be a better plot development than most of what we've gotten since the Buu saga, so I'm all for it.

Re: Which did it better, GT or Super?

Not at all. Storytelling, grand spectacle? Epic Transformations.. it has it all. Storytelling? No Grand Spectacle? Yeah Epic Transformation? I mean Ultra Instinct was cool You sure you saw Z and Super? Z's plots actually had a dynamic sequence of events where new twists and turns were constantly ha...

Re: What's so bad about the idea of a recurring villain?

The problem is "villain decay".

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VillainDecay

Obviously it's possible to write a recurring villain without succumbing to villain decay, but the modern DB writers lack such capabilities.

Re: The human characters were treated better in Super than Z

Everyone acts like Krillin wasn't a major character in Z all be because he loses most of his fights, but winning fights isn't all there is to a character. Krillin was almost always active in the story throughout DB and DBZ (with his biggest absences being in the original DB, actually), even if he wa...

Re: How to make forgotten DB characters relevant again?

There is a very easy way to do that, but it's one Toei would never try. Introduce an appropriately weak villain, but take Goku and Vegeta out of the equation. Too bad they always need to be in an arc for some reason. Naruto wasn't that stupid about cramming the main characters everywhere. Seriously...

Re: Heart Virus Zenkai?

I think zenkais were part of the saiyan's gradual transition into super saiyans. I guess if we take the s-cells thing as an explanation, maybe they gain s-cells rapidly through zenkais but once a saiyan attains enough s-cells to turn super saiyan they sort of max out and can't sustain any more.

I guess my brain just kind of treats it like "lb", "oz", "Mrs.", "Rx", and other abbreviations that don't match what they are an abbreviation of.

Re: Is Jiren a Prodigy?

Well I mean Goku is a prodigy of sorts. Outside his abnormal superhuman strength(which is subpar for a Saiyan at best prior to his training), Goku has always been extremely talented at picking up techniques and forming counter strategies simply by seeing them performed once even by Earthling standa...

Re: Dragon Ball Super's writing - a thought experiment

I like how "good writing" boils down to power scaling. Nothing else matters. It's ALL about power scaling. Screw the overall narrative. Screw the world building. Screw the character motivations and development. I mean, it would certainly help if Super didn't halfass those things as well. Missed the...

Re: Is Jiren a Prodigy?

A Goku-like prodigy. Just like Goku he had seemingly no power in the beginning, but after training hard with great teachers and gaining powerful motivation he became the strongest. But unlike Goku, he abandoned trust and that's ultimately what will allow Goku to beat him, since Goku went Ultra Inst...

Re: Majin Buu and God Ki

Or Kid Buu is simply stronger than Buff Buu and was dicking around up until the moment where he pushes back the spirit bomb, which is when everyone realizes how truly fucked they are (to the point that Vegeta is willing to sacrifice everyone on earth by having them give the last of their energy). So...

Re: As A FUNi Dub Fan, Has Z Kai Replaced Z for you?

I also don't miss the inconsistency caused by Pikkon OHKOing Super Perfect Cell and then evenly matching SSj Goku. Depending on how long Goku has spent in Other World at that point (haven't seen that arc) it may actually be plausible, since Super Saiyan is really just a multiplier on one's base pow...

Re: As A FUNi Dub Fan, Has Z Kai Replaced Z for you?

I think I'm finally getting over the last remnants of my nostalgia for the original dub So you don't care for the stuff Kai didn't cover, like the filler arcs (Garlic Jr and Afterlife Tournament) and the movies/specials? Or at the very least, you don't care for their dubs? (fandubs for Bardock poss...
