Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

The holiday period was decent, but didn't give it as much of a boost I had thought. Although, I guess it was to be expected with the front loaded nature of the franchise and its narrow appeal.

Expecting a ¥3.8-3.9 billion finish.

Re: Things that grind your gears

They are actually catering to grown ups though. Look at the merch. Most of them are for 15+ age group. Some Heroes stuff are for pre teens, but that's about it. The intended audience is mostly PR stuff from my experience. Every creator/owner will welcome every age group to like their franchise, but ...

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

So, the company's statement that sponsors TV anime and makes merch and stuff don't matter. The demographic breakdown reports that y'know Fuji TV and other producers buy to gauge what the general audiences are don't matter. Movie theatres that have late night shows at fucking 2 am which is totally th...

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

Thanks for proving my point. Just like Pokémon's core fanbase is still kids as it was in the 90s, DB's core fanbase is still teens/adults like it was in the 90s. TV ratings breakdown, movie ticket sales, merch and literally Bandai admit it.

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

I should have worded that better. Its true. Golden Time shows like Shin Chan and Doraemon are overwhelmingly kids and since we don't have specific demo breakdowns of old shows we have to rely on educated guesses from people who have been following the market. The biggest indicator why DB is not targ...

HeroAca demo is also teens and up like Dragon Ball.

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

Lol the original run was literally at 7pm prime time where most adults tuned into watch TV. It should be enough of an indication of what the target audience was.

I agree about the content thing that it can be watched by kids, but the demo is almost definitely not kids.

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

Nope. I posted an age demo breakdown of DBS here and guess what most people who watched it were people in their 20s-40s. Same with Kai and the movie that just released now and the previous two films before that. A few kids watch DB, but they never were the main audience. Bandai flat out recognized t...

Re: Should I let my 9 year old watch DBZ?

Dragon Ball's general demo is 15+ mostly in Japan from all the data I have gathered. But, 12 is a good starting point from my observation. There are a few fans in that range. My suggestion would be waiting until then if you want them to have the uncut experience and all that. But, ultimately it is y...

Actuals are out.

11 day total - 2,037,811,000(¥2.03 billion)
11 day admissions - 1,576,183(1.57 million)

Monday being a holiday helped it a bit.

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

I still have a hard time seeing the Dragon Ball franchise that way. I mean, it's one of Japan's most famous media properties. Also, from what I understood, even the two previous films failed to meet their expected target. Nowhere did I say DB isn't big. It is. It is a big shonen property. It has a ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

Once the holiday period is over that is after 8th Jan, movies fall of a cliff and frontloaded franchises like Dragon Ball even more so than others. Mid/late Jan and pretty much most of Feb are dull periods at the box office. So, if Broli has any chance of beating F's cumulative total, it is if it ge...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

Nope. Broli opened in more theatres. It has less screens which means jackshit. It also got all the biggest screens with the highest boxes unlike F which is what really matters. One Piece Film Z opened in the second week of Dec just like Broli with around 301 screens which is even lesser than Broli a...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

No. Its average ticket price is slightly lower compared to F due to either premium formats(IMAX, 4DX) not doing well or it attracting slightly more kids compared to F. Or probably both. Hence, more tickets sold but less in revenue. About Bohemia, I kind of exaggerated a bit. It isn't exponentially g...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

Bohemia is a phenomenon in Japan. It has kept on increasing every week. It is one of those movies that just click with all audiences and keeps growing. Also, most importantly it has female support and today is Ladies' Day and that has given it a boost, same with Fantastic Beast(the #2 movie today), ...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

Anyway, I hope it gets better once holiday starts. I didn't see a kids being mentioned. That DB has a lot of fans in the 20-40 yrs range is understandable, but it'll be sad if they can't get the new generation as interested in the franchise. The demo for the weekend was posted btw. Not numbers, but...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Box Office Thread

If it was significant, it would have showed at the weekend. It didn't. Both OP and Conan have been able to reach ¥1bn milestone at their opening weekends due to strong female support after all.

But, anyway Tue is looking about as expected. Dull as hell.
