Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 32 - DB episode 141-145 (CURRENT WEEK)

I know right? Imagine if you never seen the anime before, and you watch your way to episode 237 where the title is literally "For Those Whom He Loves... Vegeta Perishes!!" Like, half of the surprise of Vegeta killing himself is ruined because now you know it's going to happen before you even see it...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 32 - DB episode 141-145 (CURRENT WEEK)

That's pretty interesting. But how "Blue" are we talking here? Like sky blue or more like Bulma's cyan? Images: https://www.kanzenshuu.com/guides/manga/chp/titles/lg/187.png?x34014 https://www.kanzenshuu.com/guides/manga/chp/titles/lg/187_fc.png?x34014 Interesting how different some of the co...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 32 - DB episode 141-145 (CURRENT WEEK)

I had wondered for the longest time if the conversation that Piccolo Jr. and Kami-disguised-as-Hero have with each other during their match was something Toriyama did as an early setup or hint as to the eventual reveal of their true origins, even though it would be roughly about a year or so before...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

Thought so. If you're seeing ringing, likely what's going on here is that Toei used the Blu-ray version of Kai 2.0, which is the Japanese cut, and has horrendous sharpening on top. Might explain the sepia tint too! Those colors are clearly intentional. Even Kai 1.0 had some flashbacks with a ...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me? They are! Well, not your eyes, but the picture itself. The lines all have ringing artifacts, which are bright halos around edges of high contrast that trick you into thinking the image is sharper than it actually is. The edge halos are the same thing TVs use ...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

It's also worth noting that The Final Chapters ALSO had its music replaced with Sumitomo's work on BoG, RoF and Super, but similar to Kai there's not nearly enough tracks to offset it feeling repetitive. What are you talking about? I was under the impression that The Final Chapters (and the Japanes...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

How well does the Funi dub for Dragon Ball stick to the original Japanese dialogue? I know the remastered Funi dub is bad at this, the Kai dub is good. Was curious where the Funi dub for Dragon Ball. OG-DB is better... but it's still not faithful a lot of the time. The context of several scenes is ...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

I'm about to finish Dragon Ball for the first time and am trying to figure out the best way to re-watch DBZ (then will do Super for the first time after that). That depends on what dub you're watching. If it's the Japanese version, you should watch Z and maybe make some smart decisions on skipping ...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

Really, even on the Blu Ray? Maybe its worth saving money to just go for the DVDs then? (There are some crazy good deals for Kai, but only for the DVDs). I'm interested in picking up Kai, just to get a fresh take on the show. How tolerable is the misplaced Kikuchi music? Is it worth trying to track...

I will also say, and this is just my preference, but I think Kai looks really, really good.
I like Kai's colour grade, but I will say that the blur is rather excessive, to the point where a lot of the time you question if it's actually HD.

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

On that note, the first 4 images show a high amount of cropping on the Black Bricks compared to the Dragon Box. Can anyone confirm that this is only because it is the first 4 episodes, and they cropped more due to the film damage? Or is this a problem that presents itself inconsistently throughout ...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

Is that "Remastered" frame on the left from the Black Bricks, or from the OB/Blu Rays? Based on the shape, I'm guess (and hoping) its the latter, because that is really bad. I figured that the Black Bricks wouldn't be as good as the Dragon Boxes - but when it comes to cropping specifically, as long...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

If anyone owns the 30th Anniversary sets, is there really a red tint that is as bad as some people are claiming it to be? Some people are saying Goku has Lobster skin. From certain photos online (and in these comparisons), that does seem to be the case. But in a bubble is it as noticeable I wonder?...

Re: Goku's first time in space?

I think the OP is more asking when did Goku realize he could survive in space. And the answer to that is: he can't! Saiyans can't survive in space like Frieza can.

Main Site Suggestion: "Concurrent Chapter/Episode"

I had an idea for a little extra detail to be added to the Chapter pages of Dragon Ball, the Episode pages for DB and Z: a "Concurrent Chapter/Episode" listing on the graph at the top of the page, similar to the "Franchise Timeline" thing on the Movie 7 page. One of the things I find very fascinatin...

Re: Dr. Brief builds you a time machine...

I'd go back to Japan while the manga was being published to see the reactions of fans as classic moments were happening. Agreed, I'd love to experience that period of history. We know a lot about the development and release of it of course, but how much do we know about specific fan reactions these...

Re: Florida Politician Calls Dragon Ball Z Porn

In all seriousness, Dragon Ball sexualizes tons of its female characters, including 16 year old Bulma and Launch. There was a woman in the world tournament who won matches by seducing male characters. Then you've got characters like Oolong and Roshi who have either plotted to or succeeded in sexual...

Does the DB Dbox cost and arm and a leg like the Z Dbox?
Kinda-sorta. You can also order the singles DVDs released the year after, however this will take up much more shelf space and is just the DVDs with no-flourish menus and none of the extras like the Dragon Book.
