Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

I love how because of the Ocean Dub script errors they had to leave stuff like KAO-Ken for the rest of the dub. There's also Saiyan as it's almost always been pronounced here with the -ay sound rather than -ai like in the Japanese version, it seems that was pretty much ingrained from the beginning ...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

I don't know if you'd really count it as 'long after the fact' for me, as I grew up in the era where we still only had that dub for the first chunk of episodes and first three movies for a long time, but I did still come to that dub after having already grown used to the FUNi in-house cast from the...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

I also greatly prefer their actor for Oolong (whose name I can never remember sadly) because he was the only voice not to do the kind of 'chain-smoking 40-year-old' voice that both of FUNi's in-house takes go for, instead giving us something much closer to Tatsuta's original Japanese performance (a...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

I still consider the Saban dub superior to Funi's redub; both are inaccurate and censored, so in my view, you might as well go for the version with the better performances, that wasn't hastily thrown-together years after the fact in an utterly failed attempt to add extra consistency... Which ends u...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

Brian Drummond as Vegeta is great, but his voice does not work after the namek stuff. Either he lost it, or age was not kind to his voice because it just didn't sound right. Plus the maniacal edge doesn't seem appropriate after Namek. Vegeta was hardly a good person after the Namek arc. The problem...

Re: A question to those who saw the Saban dub long after the fact

The first i saw of the Ocean dub was some time in around 2001 or so when repeats were airing alongside first run broadcasts of FUNi's Z in house dub in the Majin Buu arc on Toonami. Overall i thought it was decent at such a young age and though my introduction to the series was after FUNi started du...

Re: Does anyone ever actually watch the Z dub with the Kikuchi score?

I'm always amazed by the amount of people who prefer the original 1996-2003 dub to the remastered dub. Probably because the remastered dub is in and of itself super half ass as to render it to “why even fucking bother” territory? What good is it for Chris Sabat to re-record his Vegeta dialog to sou...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Yeah at least the lines have some degree of thought put into them, unlike how it was in the early days of the in house Z dub where they really just entirely re wrote stuff on the fly as they went along with the lines being awkward and not fitting the intention of the scenes. One such example of thi...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

My point exactly, just compare how FUNi was when first producing the old DBZ dub in house and most of their modern dub productions in recent history from the last decade including Z Kai and Super are a significant improvement. The differences are night and day, and it's true that some of the lines ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I get your point there, and yeah in the dub's case with those points you mention i think it's an "old habits die hard" kind of thing on FUNi's part especially considering how long that kind of extreme altering in terms of dialogue and addition of jokes and such that were never there originally in t...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Sorry what? As regards Toonzai, I confused myself with a similar post from Robo4900 comparing I believe the FUNi/Blue Water/Japanese scripts for GT. Here is a link to the page I was talking about where he compares the Simulcast subs with the FUNi dub script for the Arale episode. It’s near the midd...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

What is with these people? Why does Toei keep enabling them? They should be taking offense. Because their idea of "Remaster" is not "present the footage as authentically as possible in the best quality", it's "Do whatever it takes to make it look like Super", in the sense that it needs to look like...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Why does Toei keep enabling them? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ That and a large part of the overall fanbase that thinks the DNR isn't that bad. It really seems that way, and the casual average joe fans who buy into these crap remastered releases don't grasp the fact that this is a 30 year old anime s...

Re: Walmart Exclusive Top Seven Fights DVDs

This is a bit off topic, but I don't know if it warrants an entirely new thread, but anyway, I went to Walmart recently, and they had a slot on the DVD shelf dedicated to the old Broly single three pack DVD, and they had a couple in stock... while they were simultaneously selling the superior movie...

Re: If a woman were to voice Goku in English, who should it be?

Whoever had already voiced Goku as a child throughout the DB series up to the point when Goku grows up. I truly believe that's the way it would work; if there was to be a female casting for adult Goku in English, she would probably have had to have already played Goku for the 132 episodes preceding...

Re: Funi's DB/DBGT video releases vs. DBZ's

The English title cards looked unimpressive and tacky, plus inserting the FUNimation-made Dragon Ball has always left a sour taste in my mouth. It's even worse if you were watching it on Cartoon Network and the DB logo was behind it. That's what sucks about them removing alternate angles for the Ja...

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

The 30th anniversary set is like a good, gourmet burger. What am I reading here? No, it's like a cold Mc Donalds burger I wouldn't eat even if I got paid to. It's just barely marginally better than the Season BD's for not being cropped to fake widescreen, but otherwise there's really no noticeable ...
