Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings

If you're an English-speaking Dragon Ball fan, there's a chance you've only known the dub changes for upwards to twenty (plus) years. Whenever I use names like "Kuririn", many have no idea what I'm talking about. Funimation stuck with their changes for so long that, from a business perspective, they...

Dragon Ball Z Singles - Faithful to Broadcast?

As a Canadian, the versions of Dragon Ball , Dragon Ball Z , and Dragon Ball GT I grew up with differ from the versions people in the U.S. grew up with (and what's on most home video releases). As such, my only real knowledge of U.S. Dragon Ball is from the internet and those home video releases. Th...

Re: Is it time to accept Faulconer OST did it better than the original?

There are definitely some standout tracks, and its implementation is often much worse than the music on its own. Still, English Dragon Ball and Japanese Dragon Ball are two different beasts entirely. You can't really say that the Faulconer music is better than the Kikuchi music as they were respons...

Re: SSG or SSJ4

I like both for different reasons. Super Saiyan 4 is my favorite appearance for a transformation, but Super Saiyan God is just classic Toriyama.

Re: Recording vs Buying In the 90's/2000's

I recorded as many as possible so I could rewatch them as much as I pleased (if I happened to be watching while recording, I'd stop and start it to cut out commercials so I could fit more on each tape). Then once the DVDs started coming out, I started purchasing those since I wanted to watch it in ...

Orange Bricks - Why the Bleaching?

While I disagree with practically every decision made with the Orange Bricks, 2014 Blu-rays, and 30th anniversary Blu-rays, I can at least understand what Funimation were trying to do with each of them (even if they failed spectacularly). However, no matter how hard I think about it, the bleached im...

I was hoping that would happen with the leaks and unfair treatment of actors, but I'm not as confident that it will now.
Don’t quite see what that has to do with anything, it’s all Toei’s fault to begin with.
Why would Toei be responsible for Funimation's actions?

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

Despite everything Funimation did to Vic Mignogna, they did absolutely nothing about (not even acknowledging) Sean Schemmel, Christopher Sabat, etc. making jokes about rape and incest, using slurs, and so on in the recording booth. They protected the actors they valued more than Vic. None of them s...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

I was hoping that would happen with the leaks and unfair treatment of actors, but I'm not as confident that it will now. You mean the bloopers? Those were never going to mean anything. The Vic Mignogna crowd threw a fake outrage about the outtakes, trying to equate some off-colour jokes to his sexu...

It's most notable when they try to do his style of comedy. As goofy as it is, there's some restraint to it that others fail to emulate.

Re: Recording vs Buying In the 90's/2000's

As a kid, I didn't care much about "preserving", but I always kept any tapes or DVDRs recorded. Why would I throw them away? I loved Dragon Ball, and being able to watch these episodes any time I liked was great. I still have some portions of the Boo arc and GT on tapes that I've never got transfer...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

Yes, and that rigorous process happened on the Season BDs. They just ruined it at the end with a smear/blur+sharpen filter, and a shittification of the colours, and a very time-consuming shot-by-shot reframing/cropping process. I acknowledged that. However, as you said, that means nothing when they...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

I'm not referring to an automated remastering process that simply smears the image. I want humans to clean the image properly (like with the Level Sets) and to release those with that process alone. Yes, and that rigorous process happened on the Season BDs. They just ruined it at the end with a sme...

Re: Recording vs Buying In the 90's/2000's

Preserving wasn’t really on the back of my mind as a kid. I just watched it as it aired on Toonami. I think I saw most of the Garlic Jr saga-Fusion saga as it aired. Didn’t see much of the Saiyan and Namek sagas as done by the Ocean cast and I think I didn’t see any of tie initial Funi cast take ov...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

. Frame-by-frame remaster (Level Sets) That happened on the Season BDs too; they made no secret of this in the remastering documentaries, and friends of mine have spoken to people close to the people who worked on it, who confirmed it was a proper frame-by-frame restoration. People just didn't pay ...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?

. Dragon Ball , Dragon Ball Z , and Dragon Ball GT . Individual complete season releases . Individual movie releases . General retail release with good distribution . Worldwide release (where possible as there's probably some restrictions) . Blu-ray . Frame-by-frame remaster (Level Sets) . 4:3 . Eng...

Recording vs Buying In the 90's/2000's

As a child, my family used to record shows and movies to VHS as it was much cheaper than buying official releases. For shows with as many episodes as Dragon Ball, how did you choose to preserve them back in the day?

No. I'm referring specifically to the tournament itself.
