A new model to make sense of Cell arc time travel mechanics

In 766, after saving the universe from the evil tyrant Freeza, Goku dies from a heart virus. Cruel enough as this was, two years later two artificial humans appeared. They were much more powerful than even Freeza or King Cold and killed everyone, including Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo. Despair took ove...

Re: How does the Super manga's time travel system make any sense?

It always goes to the last-altered past (or creates more splits off of it; we know this since Cell's time travel introduces further changes on top of Trunks'), so the only danger would be losing the connection to its original timeline, something one imagines would only be an issue were its destinat...

Re: Time Travel Discussion

This new method makes no sense and contradicts Toriyama's previously established time travel mechanics which were actually quite sound. Agreed! What I like about Dragonball's time travel is that it can be explained in a coherent, elegant model, with a few basic laws/rules from which it all follows....

"Trunks's cells would've been collected..."

Cell made this statement when he was telling Piccolo all about his origins. It implies that Trunks was there in the early days of Cell's timeline, but that throws a wrench in most timeline theories. That Trunks had to have come from yet another timeline, right? But couldn't Cell just have referred t...

Re: How Would YOU Fix The Goku Black Arc?

First of all, I'd fix the timeline mess that Super's gotten itself into. I'd stick to the four timelines we had from the Cell arc and have Goku Black come from the unseen timeline. Future Zamasu was too easily convinced to join Goku Black on his omnicidal plans. Present Zamasu's fall was covered ver...

Re: "Future" Trunks Arc Timeline & Paradox Discussion Thread

So Beerus really did create a new timeline when he killed Zamasu. Too bad. I don't see how it can make sense like this... I guess they didn't want the audience too ask too many questions about time travel, which is a shame because Dragonball really had a novel thing going with the alternate timelines.

Re: About time travel mechanics

Now I've notices that the time-machine in which Cell arrived to the main timeline was actually in all 4 timelines. 1) T1- The time machine is from Cell's timeline 2) Trunks went in this time-machine to the T2 3) Cell arrived in this timeline in this time-machine 4) and now, Vegeta, Bulma, Trunks an...

Re: About time travel mechanics

The 17 years thing is a mistake that has been perpetuated and it pisses me off, that it's officially part of the series' lore and we have to come up with explanations for it instead of it just being a simple straight forward "x years in one timeline is x years in the other timelines. I couldn't agr...

Re: About time travel mechanics

But clearly at that point not much time at all had passed in Trunks' timeline even after he made it back from the past, so this would suggest he can move forward in another timelines with minimal impact on his own timeline, therefore it seems that any time that passes in the main timeline has no im...

Re: About time travel mechanics

Sure, and I'd also say that with the time machine you can move another timeline's time forward relatively speaking but not backward, i.e: Trunks skipping 3 years in our timeline even though only 8 months passed in his timeline. Ah, so from the perspective of the main timeline at age 765 to 767 , wh...

Re: About time travel mechanics

Trunks has a time machine. He could return to the future a couple of seconds after he originally. He could have stayed in the present(after defeating Cell) for another 20 years and still return to his timeline the moment he left. Well, the question is whether time flows synchronously between timeli...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

And yes, probably manga's version of the saga will show some different chain of events and then the mess will start :D :D :D Yeah, well I guess that leaves more mysteries for us to solve :) No doubt the new Time-Ring Gowasu sees in the box, is signifying that Trunks' recent travel actually created ...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

But in case of Black, what he gives us are not any theories, hypothesis etc. He exactly know who he is and where did he come from. He doesn't say "probably I'm the Zamasu you fought few episodes earlier". He says clearly that he IS the same Zamasu. And if he says that, I think he knows cause he spe...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

It can't be a causal loop as for Trunks to come back Black must first exist, and he can't exist without Trunks coming back and Trunks has no reason to come back without Black. I agree, it's a logically contradictory theory and therefore should be discarded. It's just that the series seems to imply ...

Re: About time travel mechanics

It's exactly what you're suggesting, that time somehow runs 20 years slow between the main timeline and the future one... but we're pretty much shown that the opposite is true. They aren't staggered. Trunks' first trip was 20 years, all his later trips were 17 years. That right there means that tim...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

Yes, it is contradictory. And yes, Berrus wasn't right about those stuff, he doesn't know much about this time travels etc. But don;t you think that Black knows better if he is or if he is not the same Zamasu that fought Goku and was killed by Beerus (but thanks to the ring it didn't affected him) ...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

Nope. Black said that he is the same Zamasu that fought Goku earlier, and the fight was cause of the Trunks' (and Black's) arrival in the main timeline. It was stated by Beerus and Black, both of whom have demonstrated a lack of understanding of time travel. Besides, that theory is logically contra...

Re: How did Trunks come back to the present timeline in Age 767 without splitting the timeline?

Now, as we know when Trunks first traveled through time it caused the timeline to split, and then those timelines were split even further when Cell came back resulting in a total of 4 timelines, yet when Trunks comes back 3 years later he somehow avoids the creation of a new timeline. How is this p...

Re: About time travel mechanics

Trunks literally says he doesn't want to risk change the settings in order to ensure that he reaches the same parallel world. To him, the only other timeline that should exist is probably Cells, which would be ahead of his own and the main timeline. If the time machine worked like you suggest, then...
