Re: Which game was a bigger improvement over its predecessor

The first Butoden game was such a broken pile of dicks, it's really surprising how much the sequels fixed without overhauling much of anything. The same sentiment applies double for the LOG series.

Re: Dragon Ball Fan Confessions

To this day I've never read the manga or watched the anime sequentially from beginning to end. 508 episodes for all three series is pretty daunting. If I really want to play on hard-mode there's the specials, movies and OVAs too.

Re: What's your opinion on the new characters?

The new video game characters are pretty prototypical. They're about as interesting as Hatchiyack,Kurilien or any other DBO character. Everyone else is okay. Nothing to write home about. I'd like to see Beerus, Whis and Jaco be a little less one note but so far their only exposure into the franchise...

Re: Anime/Manga scene comparisons

These are awesome, thanks for sharing. I've noticed for awhile now how stiff and simplistic the anime is when compared to the manga. The anime truly stripped a lot of the artwork of its charm. In every single comparison you see just how much more dynamic and stylish the comic is. That being said I k...

Re: So are we biased?

I don't care who plays Goku so long as they can bring forth the spirit of the character. If a fat black gay woman plays the most fucking amazing interpretation of Goku I've ever seen that's cool by me.

Re: Iconic scenes ruined by the dub?

Calling the original score "monotonous" is humorous to me because that's the first word I think of when I hear the dub OST. It's this wall to wall gnashing cheap sounding synth that all blends together. There are some nice compositions but for the most part it's all very samey in tone. I also feel l...

Re: If you took the nostalgia out, would you still like DB?

That's an interesting question. I've actually been thinking a lot about this lately. If I were to experience the story nowadays in chronological order I definitely think I'd drop the series once it hit Raditz or shortly afterwards. There are so many things I despise about the "Z" portion of the story...

Re: Toriyama's racial/ist character portrayals?

Yeah, I'm occasionally offended by how the anime staff treat black people. Killa is nothing but just an ordinary fighter in the manga, but they added hoots by the audience when he's introduced by the announcer in contrast with Jewel, a white man, receiving cheers from women. Did you ever see what t...

Re: The "peak" of your Dragon Ball fandom

Around Budokai 1's release so...2002? I ate, breathed and slept DB for about 9 years. I studied the series like I was about to write my fucking master thesis on the shit. I bought entire consoles and hand helds exclusively for Dragon Ball games. I bought Sagas multiple times just to make absolute su...

Re: Who did it better (SUB vs. DUB)

Sabat as Piccolo, Vale as the Budokai announcer, Straight as Kurririn (Steele as Kid Kurririn) and Armstrong as the DB narrator. The dub voices in that list are a far cry from their Japanese counter parts but they were very true to the spirit of their respective characters. I think that's what count...

Re: Positive changes/Woolseyisms

Nothing major but I really like these dialogue changes... Krillin: I think someone’s been dippin’ into the eggnog, allow me to escort you off this island. Krillin: “Oh great, what else can go wrong today!?” Piccolo: “I suppose you could make me angry but I wouldn’t advise it.” Freeza: “You don’t hon...

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I would consider it an over the top corn ball line to be sure. There's some genuinely cool dub lines I like, this just isn't one of them. :D

I'm quite partial to Goku proclaiming to Cell
The Light in the Darkness wrote:"You're not the first person to try to rule the universe with a sword of injustice!"
Failed humor is always expected but I get a kick out of what the old Funi writers considered to be 'cool' dialogue.

Re: How do you watch the series?

I just watch Kai, my patience for filler material has reached its threshold these days. I don't own any of the DVDs (I sold my anime collection years ago) so I just watch whatever is airing on TV. Toonami is my first time watching uncut Kai. I know the story well enough to the point where I just dip...

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because

I watched the series in it's entirety when I was 8, don't see why that'd change now? It took a few weeks to watch every episode of One Piece and that's much longer than Dragon Ball lol... When I was a kid cable sucked ass and trying to stream anything on the computer was close to impossible. I thin...

Re: Are most people Hesitant to get into Dragon Ball because

I think it's hard to get people to sit down to watch a long running franchise these days in general. To a lot of us Dragon Ball was this thing we slowly consumed over years and years. You bought a tankobon or two here, a DVD single there. You may have been watching it after school on weekdays. It's ...

Re: What are the good things to come out of modern DBZ?

If we're talking about from 2002-2015 there was a smattering of decent video games. DBZ/DBGT came back on air for awhile, left, and then came back on again. The coolest thing to me in the last 13 years was Kai. It's a complete disaster but once the dust settles I'm sure people can find something of ...
