Re: U.S Dragon Box & Japanese Dragon Box picture comparison.

As long as the constant bit rate audio wasn't getting in the way of the variable bit rate video (and seeing as the Dragon Boxes are lauded for great video quality, I'd say it wasn't), there's no harm in maxing it out. As for the US release, assuming a decent encoder, 96 kbps is fine for mono. It wou...

Re: Guide to Goku and Vegeta Boot Details

The colors of the boot lining and ties change in the Z anime as well. I first noticed the differences comparing costumes in the Sparking! / Budokai Tenkaichi video games. Goku's early outfits (with Go, Kame, and Kaio kanji) featured a hanging belt at the waist and boots with yellow/orange lining and...

Re: A Hypothetical Freeza Question

People would criticize his lines, no doubt. He'd also be a lot younger with less experience. Plus it's not like Linda is a bad voice actor, she matches Freeza's first form appearance, but just isn't right for the character. Wrong actor+bad lines = x.x Agreed. Same goes for Pauline Newstone's Freeza...

Re: The First 53 FUNimation / Ocean Episodes

Crappy music? Skuki Levy makes awesome music! Didn't you ever watch Power Rangers...? Now, I'll never say that the old dub was an "accurate" dub, but the music and voice acting kicked ass. I did watch a ton of Power Rangers ; I watched enough to recognize when some of the exact same music cues were...

Re: Dragon Box Volume Five cover!

I wouldn't bet against it. However, this does raise the question of potential extras. Now that it seems there won't be any significant difference in content between the boxes, it doesn't provide as much of an opening for bonus material under the six disc format. That could be a killjoy, but there's...

Re: Moments FUNimation's English Dub Did Better?

I love the piano/synth theme used for Vegeta's Super Saiyan transformation before he fights #19. Having unique themes and leitmotifs make many of the scenes in the dub feel more special than their Japanese counterparts. The dub score wouldn't have been bad except for the direction (Mickey Mousing an...

Goku is the sole arch-nemesis of various villains, but he himself doesn't have a sole arch-nemesis.

Re: Dragon Box Z Movies still not out...

That's a good theory, especially since you mentioned Kai . Its current popularity could bolster DBZ movie sales. It would depend on FUNi having time to redub the movies; they might have their hands full with Kai , which itself requires various versions of dialogue for the home releases and the TV ed...

Re: Welcome to the Beginning-To-End "Dragon Ball" Experience!

I didn't even realize until now that Netflix has all of the DB blue bricks! I've been holding off on buying them, but I wouldn't be opposed to putting them in my queue for something like this. (If only they were on Instant Play...) Not sure if I'll be doing it yet, but this is a pretty cool idea!

Dangit, TFS Nappa has become the character for me. Knowing full well that he works solely in parody form. Completely agreed. TFS took a generic bully villain and gave him a much more entertaining violent man-child personality. I wear my Ghost Nappa shirt with pride. As for whether TFS could t...

Re: Do the Dragon Ball Movies feel like movies?

They generally feel like extended episodes, or mini-marathons. The sheer amount of movies has something to do with them feeling less special and celebrated. No one DB feature strikes me as a particularly special event. They're a nice collection of well-animated side-stories for fans already steeped ...

Re: The Dragon Boxes WILL be Limited. (ANNCast Segment)

So by "limited" does that really mean no more production ever after a certain point or just limited stock at any one time? Sorry I have been out of the loop but it seems to be the former case rather than the latter :(. It's a vague term. It implies a limited print run, but we don't know how limited...

I don't think they were going for comedy there, just testing special effects and sharing the results.

Re: Bruce Faulconer didn't make his own music?

It's always a shame when musicians/composers aren't properly credited. I didn't realize until a few months ago when Scott posted here that Faulconer didn't handle everything.
By the way, the "Darth Vegeta" theme is awesome. Nice shredding!

Re: The Dragon Boxes WILL be Limited. (ANNCast Segment)

FUNi can't really be blamed for the orange brick/Dragon Box release succession. The bricks were what they (mistakenly) thought was the best they could do at the time*, and from what we can tell, acquiring the DBox footage from Toei came as a surprise even to them. But I wouldn't be happy if I couldn...

Re: Watching the Dub VS "Grading" the Dub

If a performance is moving or makes me chuckle for the right reasons, then I can enjoy it without overthinking it. I don't really go in planning to analyze the details, but there have been countless moments in the old dubs that just took me out of the experience entirely. With Kai , I can enjoy the ...

Re: Why so expensive? (Kai DVDs)

The main difference between Kai and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is Brotherhood is an all new production as opposed to a re-edit of existing footage as in the case of Kai. In fact, whereas Kai is projected to excise about half of the episodes from the original DBZ, Brotherhood has about 13 more...

I had the "Arrival" VHS with the first few episodes spliced into a feature as well as the first three movies on VHS. I didn't start collecting the series until the Trunks episodes, and that was still VHS. I stopped before the Cell Games and just caught the show on TV. The only DVDs I picked up were ...

Re: The Dragon Boxes WILL be Limited. (ANNCast Segment)

It's all spin. They always meant to produce less because the demand was going to be less. Now that their plan has had a slight misfire, they're trying to use "Limited Edition" to make it sound like it wasn't an issue of underestimating demand. If so, that bodes well for future releases of Dragon Bo...
