Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I will miss the really high pitched voice though, especially for Saiyan arc Vegeta. Although, expect him to be great: he said he went all out for the final attack on Cell (after Trunks is shot dead). It will be great higher or lower pitched! Nice to see you're still around. Anyway I wouldn't expect...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread

If true that is unfortunate, I was looking forward to hearing how they handle the Black arc, particularly Black's voice as well as the new voice of Trunks (which I thought was already sounding better than Vale's raspy approach). Unless the dub wasn't performing well in the ratings I suspect they mig...

Aside from cropping, there's also this problem.
http://i.imgur.com/NJBOszn.png http://s28.postimg.org/usrcazjrh/Nappa8.png http://s7.postimg.org/lg4x1oz2j/season2.jpg http://s29.postimg.org/n8z6bogqv/Orange_Bricks_and_VLC.png http://s29.postimg.org/z4lggh687/95550422kt0_1.png
Re: Is being able to watch original DBZ in a non-cropped format for a reasonable price too much to ask?

To make matters worse, ignorant companies like MangaUK and Madman have doomed other countries to the same fate by importing the orange bricks to their countries. Funi's garbage spread like a virus and the market is probably too saturated at this point for Dragon Boxes to be a viable release anywhere...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I don't see what you're talking about with the modern FUNi dubs having too many words crammed into the dialogue. They tend to sound like they're purposely using a thesaurus sometimes, or reorganize some words, but otherwise, their dubs are usually pretty on-point with the dialogue. I think you're m...

Ayre's Freeza's is already established as being a fast-talker with a sharp-tongue, this isn't the case for every character.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

She was physically incapable of keeping up with Freeza's dialogue when they recorded for Kai. I doubt they wanted to take that chance of having that happen again. I really don't know if I buy that. She was able to keep up with "Frieza" the first time around -- albeit it wasn't a tremendous performa...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Funi, Bandai Namco or OkraTron 5000 are notoriously cheap when it comes to dubbing DB games, I still remember Chris Sabat reprising many of his minor Z roles in the Xenoverse games instead of just paying the Kai actors to reprise them. For a long time they didn't even bother getting anyone to narra...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I think the window of opportunity for an Ocean dubbed DBZ game probably ended with the first Budokai. The PAL/European version published by Bandai was released without a dub at all (which turned out for the better in my opinion as the Japanese acting was better and the US Infogrames release had no J...

Re: Turner expands Toonami to Africa!

Turns out they're broadcasting the Funimation dub. A Turner Asia representative led me to believe it would be Bang Zoom in Africa as well but this isn't too surprising considering Africa previously aired the other Funi dub material.

Re: Ultra instinct should have been for gohan

From the outside looking in, Ultra Instinct basically appears to be a repackaged Ultimate form. Like they dusted off an old idea and handed it to Goku... as if he didn't have enough transformations already.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I'd wager that someone at Funimation (probably Barry Watson) was likely enforcing the kay-o-ken pronunciation. It was pronounced correctly in the Pioneer produced Ocean dub, which they had little to do with, as well as during the Pikkon episodes of the Westwood Ocean dub (when Goku uses the "super K...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Was it really Funimation who made HFIL? That sounds like a Saban choice. Just like what 4kids did to Kai. I don't think Saban should take all the blame for that. They weren't the ones translating or writing scripts for Z nor did they have anything to do with repainting frames. As far as we know Fun...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

On the Gill vs. Giru thing... if his name is supposed to be a pun on "Gear," then "Giru" would actually be more accurate. I'm not sure if it's been confirmed that "Gear" is not the pun, but I don't see why it would be "Gill." Unfortunately, there's no manual for when words are to be translated with...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

I wonder if Peras was auditioned for Bulma. I don't remember those really late episodes being on TV much when I was watching(From what I understand, France Peras took over from episode 246/261), so I don't really remember how she sounded as Bulma. Coincidentally I uploaded a clip featuring her a wh...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread

Chris Hackney won me over in episodes 22 & 23. Wow, that guy can scream. It's a fitting voice too, not as deep as Hebert's Gohan which in my opinion is a good thing. I was never really a fan of Kyle Hebert's version so I have no problem saying that I think this is an all-around better casting choice...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

While the Blue Water dub uses Bulla too (presumably to avoid using the name "Bra" as well), it handles it in a much better way. Instead of pronouncing it like Bull-ah, as in the Funi dub, they pronounce it as Beulah instead which is an actual feminine name. It doesn't come across nearly as awkward a...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Blue Water GT in particular had some bizarre lines like; -Goku saying "The earth... the place where I was born", during the battle with Baby before he goes Oozaru. After checking with the Japanese subtitles this appears to be the case in the original too. So if anything you should be blaming Toei f...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Bang Zoom Dub Official Discussion Thread

Jaco's voice is serviceable but not quite as fitting as the Funimation one, in my opinion. Both are in line with the Japanese though. Piccolo called it the "Special Beam Cannon", even in this dub. I suppose it's to keep in line with the Funi dub airings in South East Asia. Gohan and Krillin sounded ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

For DB, I believe AB Groupe had Blue Water use translated French scripts to save money. The UK/Canadian dub of DB is a strange case indeed. For the later half of the series they do seem to be using a completely different script to Funi (probably the French version, which was far more accurate. Exam...
