Re: Dragon Ball Movies HD Remaster - Amazon Video/Netflix Japan - Discussion Thread

Sorry for necroposting, but I think this is the most appropriate thread to post this. WOWOW, a satellite TV channel in Japan, aired all the DB movies in HD on October 12, and it used the heavily DNR'ed and censored footage which is the same as that on the Blu-ray release. Some other satellite channe...

Re: Is there a general consensus on what the worst movie is?

As other people have already stated, Bio Broly is widely considered as the worst one. It had been the same to me for a long time, but I noticed that it's not THAT bad after rewatching it at the screening event last year. There are a lot of hilarious moments by Mr. Satan, and you can see Android 18 f...

Were these broadcasts censored or not?
Their video masters were sourced from France, so it means it's censored.

Re: Any Canadians that have YTV recordings of the Blue Water dub?

On a related note, are you sure that "It was originally edited and mastered in PAL"? Since Canada is an NTSC region, I would've thought that Ocean would have received PAL to NTSC conversions from the AB Groupe, produced their version based off the PAL to NTSC conversions, and then what the UK aired...

Re: Any Canadians that have YTV recordings of the Blue Water dub?

What is the point of collecting the YTV rips of the Blue Water dub? It was originally edited and mastered in PAL, so Toonami UK got younger-generation masters without the ghosting caused by PAL to NTSC conversion. Is there a difference in audio quality?

Re: Funimation Leaked Outtakes

I agree. If you want a reference for something that FUNimation did that legitimately pissed Toei the hell off, that would be something like the "One Piece Episode Leak Incident" of a few years back. In summary, around the time FUNimation started simul-casting subbed episodes of One Piece , it was d...

Re: Dragon Ball Z - The Galician master

I think you should delete the link to the videos containing entire episodes which violates the rules of this forum, but it's nice to see their old video masters in such high quality anyway. IIRC, TV3 in Catalonia no more uses the old masters and the original openings and endings. Things got boring w...

I made a mistake. It was exported to the United States in the '80s, which is the sole instance confirmed so far.

Re: Missing Creditless Openings and Endings

Has Dragon Ball opening 2 been released creditless anywhere? I was under the impression they only put out opening 1. No, the creditless version of DB opening 2 has never been released or exported, but it's partially used in Goku's Traffic Safety, Goku's Fire Brigade, and the trailer for DB movie 3.

Re: Missing Creditless Openings and Endings

I asked Toei Video about this when they released Dragon Ball the Movies Blu-ray, and their answer was "We no longer have the masters of the creditless openings and endings that are not included in the Blu-ray release." Still no official words on the TV series, though. [ノンテロップ版オープニング&エンディングに関しまして] DV...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

You misunderstood what I was saying, but I understand why. I meant that that was an excuse as to why the animation errors were showing in the product, not why the cropping to widescreen was better. I'm of the opinion that the widescreen is what was intended for the movies to be seen in because they...

These "errors" in Path to Power are not supposed to be visible on 4:3 CRT TVs, so they are not actually errors.

Re: What's wrong with Toyotaro's necks?

Is it really just the necks that bother you in his art? The title should be "What's wrong with Toyotaro's drawing skills?" As a professional manga artist, he is bad in so many ways. He knows very little about human anatomy.

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

Oh trust me, I know. I myself would prefer DB to be in 4:3, however, its just false to claim that zooming in on a 4:3 picture to 16:9, will give you the same result as an actual 16:9 transfer. I see that claim thrown around a lot on here, which is odd, as a lot of people saying it claim to be A/V e...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

sodes, since they were cutting all that material anyway; presumably Toei wanted to do Kai as cheaply as possible, so I always assumed they only scanned what they needed. As for DB, it's a nitpick, but it is worth noting that they must have at least scanned some of it, for the episode 1 flashbacks. ...

Re: Why Kai 1.0's Kikuchi Score was so limited.

There were multiple reasons why it's so limited: They had no additional budget and time to digitize the tracks that have never been released on CD. They are all still being stored only on reel-to-reel tapes. They wanted to avoid mono tracks that can sound distracting. (There are a few instances of m...

Re: Possible details on Selecta Vision's Dragon Ball (1986-1989) bluray release

At this point, I'm highly skeptical about this being a true HD remaster using new transfers. Toei Animation has never produced any HD home video releases of TV series mastered on 16mm film (They produced an HD remaster of Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star in 2008, but only released on DVD.) Even ...

Re: Why can heart virus, poision and diseases still kill Goku?

You must know that it's just a matter of the degree of plausibility that is needed for the taste of a specific series or genre. If you go that far and cannot accept any illogical actions taken by characters (that you're able to fathom), you should just give up reading/watching shonen series focused...

Then blow up the fucking entire earth by shooting a blast from a billion miles away and you'll win. For what exactly reasons do only diseases and poison bother you? Is it any different than blowing up the earth or holding your enemy and let Ackman shoot the beam? It isn't different. All villains pa...
