Re: Dub or Viz-specific terminology you're fond of?

As for the dub, I really prefer the spelling "Frieza" (Autocorrect, there's meant to be an "i" in there) to "Freezer", and I'm more fond of "Krillin" than "Kuririn".

Re: Dub or Viz-specific terminology you're fond of?

I've always liked the Lord of Worlds and Lord of Lords too, and the way they translate Kami as "God" unlike Funimation. I think I prefer most Viz terminology, really. Is The Lord of Worlds a translation of "Kaio", or is his name Kaio and his title The Lord of Worlds?

Re: Worst dub lines ever

Frieza saga challange... Would that be the the "Season 3" episodes, or the real Frieza saga? And what would you name a game of watching with entire Ocean dub, filling in the gap with the original Funi fub? :P

Re: Dragon Ball Dub- Random Removal of Insert Songs

I always just thought it was because the songs were in Japanese, so they removed them as part of the Americanisation. They had no need to do it with Z or GT because they completely replaced the scores at first anyway.

Re: If you won a $200 Amazon gift card

The Daizenshuu's would be the first thing on the list. It's lots of smaller pieces I'd buy if I came into some money, like some other guidebooks, some CDs, Neko Majin, The Journey to the West, a mug with the Kanji for "turtle" on it... I'd really like the kanzenbans, but I'm currently trying to sell...

Re: "Chilled"

I always prefer it when names are translated in a way that gets away from the pun. If Bulma were "Bloomers", Jeice were "Cheese" or Frieza were "Freezer" it would prevent my Western brain from taking the serious parts of the story seriously. So Childo is better than Chilled in that way too, but Chir...

Re: Evolution TV series - Would you watch it?

Well, after I watched Evolution I sort of wanted to kill myself, I wanted to go back in time and warn myself not to watch it because it was so bad I was genuinely scared it might grow in me like a disease and forever taint my view of Dragon Ball as a whole. Luckily, I escapes from such a fate. If th...

Re: Dragonball singles DVD quality?

I guess only a Toei insider or something could really know. It's really quite interesting to think that the DVD set with the largest deviation in colours might be the most faithful colour-wise, and more correct than what was originally aired in Japan. Since you put it like that, it actually sounds p...

Re: Dragonball singles DVD quality?

What if it's the original aired version with modified color timing? I trust the original negative more than old analog TV airings preserved through old recorded media.. :? I don't think the colour editing just appeared on the original film, it was part of Toei's remastering process. That's why the ...

Re: Dragonball singles DVD quality?

Also the Dragon Boxes have the next-episode-preview and credits flipped from where they originally were. Really? I didn't know that. Oh, and even the Dragon Boxes have a few bits of footage missing, although they're far better than anything else in that respect. For example, the NEP for DBZ episode...

Re: Dragonball singles DVD quality?

I don't know why, but the zooming really bothers me. I'm sure, had I not seen the comparisons, I'd be fine, but just knowing how much picture I'd be losing, I could never buy the Blue Bricks. It sucks, because I've never seen the entirety of Dragon Ball (only about 50 episodes, in fact), but I MUST...

Dragon Ball sheet music books

So I came across a few of these on eBay just now, things like "Dragon Ball Complete Songs" and a couple of Kai ones. Does anybody here have them? Are they official? What's in them? I've never come across these before, so I thought they were quite an interesting find. This is a sheet music thread :P ...

Re: Dragonball Z Kai: Music Revival Selection Fan Project

Have I misunderstood when I've got the idea that it will be possible to patch these new tracks onto the official discs? Because that would be amazing, and make it worth while buying parts 5-8. Also how did you manage to get the audio tracks and separate them into channels? I've never thought much ab...

Re: Inconsistency in translation style?

Thanks, it's a shame that when the characters were given different dialects they were lost in translation for part of the series, that's something that adds a little more depth to the already strong characters.

Inconsistency in translation style?

I've been watching Dragon Ball in Japanese for the first time, after watching dubbed versions many times over, reading the manga and so on - I now agree with most people here that it's the best way to experience the series, too. I watched Dragon Ball on the blue bricks, and now I'm watching Z on the...
