Re: What's the real color of Goku's first gi?

In the black and white pages it's always colored black, which implies it's much darker than the turtle dōgis, which are always left as white in the b&w art. On at least one occasion in b&w (chapter 9 title page) the first gi was colored gray using screentone. The first gi is also black in the limite...

Re: Kanzenshuu members favorite arcs! Arc's #10-6!

The 22nd tournament is my second favorite arc, so I'm happy to see it get some love. I think there was a miscount in the rankings because there are only 4 arcs left, but the rankings stopped at #6. Unless I'm mistaken of course. The 3 way tie fucked me up. It's fixed now. The numbers are still wron...

Re: Why the Name "Hire Dragon"?

Doesn't it have something to do with Dr. Slump having a similar character named Taxi Dragon? Probably. In Japanese the English word "Hire" (ハイヤー) means a "vehicle for hire," which includes taxis. It's written the same way as the word "higher," which is where the translation "Higher Dragon" comes fr...

Re: Hardcore dbz fans don't like comedy in Dragonball??

I find it strange that a lot of people crap on the dub for being too silly/goofy ("cat loves food," etc.) and then when it's convenient, shift and say that it was all "blood, violence, genocide, muscles, screaming, death, and explosions." That's simply not true. The complaints about the dub being c...

Re: CBR ranks the DBZ sagas

"Broly Saga," heh. I think it's funny that they use mostly the old Funimation "saga" divisions from their single DVD releases, but confusingly also divide up sagas that weren't divided by Funimation ("Raditz Saga," "Other World Saga"), and also combine sagas that were seperate in Funimation's releas...

Gas Giant: A type of planet- not a giant made of gas Well, it refers to a kind of giant planet made of gas, so it actually is a giant made of gas. Historiography: a interpretation of events- not a blend of history and geography. There are lots of other words that end in "-graphy" (oceanography, typ...

Re: The History of Dragon Ball in Every Country

I know nothing about the Hong Kong version of the series. Can someone here provide that info? Taiwan, China, and Korea would be good too. Also Southeast Asian countries. Information I could find on the Taiwanese history of the series: Republic of China (Taiwan) [spoiler]In Taiwan the series is know...

Re: What was the first non-Japanese dub of a DB series?

The oldest dubs I could find dates for were the Hong Kong Cantonese dub, the French dub by AB Groupe, and the Thai dub, all 1988. Specifically, the Hong Kong dub started February 21, 1988 (according to Wikipedia), while the French dub began in March 16, 1988 (according to Wikipedia). Not sure what m...

Re: Kanzenshuu members favorite arcs!

(But why do you put a "y" in "Saia" ? I'm not mad, just confused  ) It's present in Japanese (the second character is "ya"; it's a rearrangement of "yasai," the word for vegetable) and every official international adaptation I'm aware of. Are there versions that just go with "Saia(n)" instead?...

Re: Kanzenshuu members favorite arcs!

The order occasionally shifts around, but my top five are:

1. 23rd Tenka'ichi Budōkai
2. Saiyan arc
3. 21st Tenka'ichi Budōkai
4. Piccolo Daimaō arc
5. Namek arc

Re: Dragon Ball Super in 90s coloring

Is this the same guy who does those screencap edits or is this becoming a trend now? I'm really getting sick of seeing these things everywhere. Overdoing the saturation and contrast doesn't make it look like Z, unless the only way you've seen Z is in some godawful "HD" YouTube video like this: http:...

I use the Funimation "Sayin'" (/ˈseɪɪn/) pronunciation.

I don't use the Funimation pronunciations for "Kaioken" or "Gero" though.

Re: English dubs made in the USA (No FUNimation, Ocean,AB Groupe or Harmony Gold)

Glad to see this dub is actually happening, and it's not another Ocean Kai dub situation. The voices I'm really curious to hear are Goku, Vegeta, and Freeza. Will they have Funimation sound-alikes or will they go for something different? For Freeza especially, if they do copy Funimation will they be...

I'd just go with "Pseudo Super Saiyan Blue" (疑似超サイヤ人ブルー), or "Pseudo Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" (疑似超サイヤ人ゴッド超サイヤ人) for long.

Re: "Goku never kissed": Do you take it as a joke or (un)funny trivia?

Android 18 isn't an android (dub change), she's a cyborg. Not a dub change. Jinzō Ningen (人造人間 man-made human) is a synonym for android in Japanese. The equivalent term for cyborg is Kaizō Ningen (改造人間 modified human). It's just as weird in Japanese as calling cyborgs "androids" in English, which i...

Re: Earth = Earthling. Namek = Namekian. Vegeta = ???

I think Vegetian is a decent alternate name but I guess Toriyama liked the Saiya-jin pun so that stuck around. This makes me wonder... why exactly did Toriyama decide that Saiyans ("Saiya People"; i.e. yasai/vegetable people) would come from a "Planet Vegeta" rather than a "Planet Saiya?" Maybe he ...

Re: How accurate is the Kai dub compared to Z's dialogue?

I think he's asking how different the dialogue is in Japanese Kai vs. Japanese DBZ, not about the differences in Funimation's dub.
