Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

DVNR has a nasty habit of erasing the black outlines in cartoons, though. Even if He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and other Filmation shows on DVD weren't time-compressed, their sets would be garbage because all of the DVNR during quick pans and when the camera shakes (and the camera shakes a...

Re: Madman let it slip: Buu Kai on 2014 (JUST a rumor)

Nicktoons can just sit on Kai for as long as they have the rights if they feel that it's better for them financially to air something else. In fact, we don't even know for sure if Nicktoons by default has TV rights for the Buu Kai eps.

I hope these Blu-rays look better in motion, because the stills look extremely paint-boxed.

Re: Singles Vs. Movie Packs - Which is the better release?

Unless we get the Dragon Box for [insert your Dragon Ball series/movie here], 1 and 2 will be mutually exclusive simply because Funimation is either too incompetent or too lazy to utilize the branching feature in DVDs and Blu-rays any more.

Re: DBZ games on PS4/XB1: What are the chances?

Betting against any company with the word "Bandai" releasing a game based on a cartoon they have the rights to on any video game platform is like betting on the Cubs to win the World Series: while it may theoretically happen, history tells you that it would be incredibly stupid to make the bet.

Re: "Explain why DBZ is bad."

We're talking about the manga, not the anime. The idea never crossed my mind, because as I said, it's a great comic. Compared to other books that I really enjoy (Strangers in Paradise, which really lost its way around the 30th-50th issues of its third volume, comes to mind), DB's flaws are far less...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

No, Funimation's film is in better shape than Toei's (colour wise) since it's newer. The peach is what faded only, the blues haven't gone yet. From what I can tell anyways. It just gets pretty bad in the android/cell arc. It was my understanding that the Dragon Boxes are transferred straight from t...

Re: "Explain why DBZ is bad."

The problem with Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z (but mostly Z) is that it's a below-average adaptation of a great comic. It's not even the filler that gets to me, it's that some of that filler is so hideously paced and downright lazy. And, really, since the piss-poor remasters for The Transformers , ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

I'd like to see BTTF in 4x3 on Blu-ray but it's very unlikely of happening due to the success the current BDs have. Uh.....why? The BTTF trilogy was shot in Super 35* to anticipate the inevitable home video release, but the movies were screened theatrically in widescreen. *-Shooting in Super 35 sti...

Re: Mr. Popo and Jynx a reference to racism?

Let me use another example: there's a great Polish comedy Vabank . All of its main characters are thieves/con-men. One of them also works in a casino as a singer - and at one moment in the movie he sings a song that bears the title of the movie, wearing some make up that gives him precisely the sam...

Re: Special Visual Boxset Possible

I have the complete G.I. Joe, Transformers, and TMNT DVD sets you mention, and, to be frank, I'm not too keen on any of them, to be generous. The TMNT set has packaging issues, and since the discs are literally the same as the individual releases, the episodes are wildly out of order in some places....

Re: Mr. Popo and Jynx a reference to racism?

Which is kind of odd since I'm pretty sure they have had Nazi stuff in modern American Cartoons. Don't recall if they actually mention Hitler but I'm pretty sure they've had the good guys fight Nazi's in both Marvel and DC cartoons. American cartoons for kids have been skirting the Hitler issue for...

Re: Mr. Popo and Jynx a reference to racism?

The prevalence of blackface in Japanese culture has a lot to do with a lack of context in what the country was exposed to following World War II. Since blackface was still acceptable at the time, with Al Jolson still quite famous and many cartoons falling back on references to his act (Bugs Bunny so...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31

But why the long wait on further Dragon Boxes if Funimation is *really* listening? As high quality as the restorations are, they are getting pretty long in the tooth. Furthermore, a lot of shows are now getting Blu-ray releases (Gatchaman and the European release of Cowboy Bebop spring to mind), and...
