Re: DBGT Kai?

I have a major problem with this statement. Non-canon to what? The manga, Kai? Sure. But it's absolutely canon to the original anime, which is a different beast from the manga to begin with.

Re: DBGT Kai?

I doubt we'll see Toei do anything else with GT. It would be kinda counterproductive. Dragonball Online seems to be the official sequel now, and it completely contradicts GT. If we get any sort of sequel anime my money's on a DBO related OVA. Er, no. How does Online "seem" to be an official sequel?...

Re: DBGT Kai?

I just hate the inconsistency. Super Saiyan 4 Goku gets pummeled by Super 17.. yet in his normal Super Saiyan form he punches him half way across the planet? What?! Well, yeah. But I'm categorically against holding anything Dragon Ball to too much internal logic, and am generally convinced that oth...

Re: DBGT Kai?

GT is a good stand alone series, but a awful DB series IMO. I'd say just the opposite. GT as its own series is riddled with problems. But as an epilogue to the Dragon Ball story, I think it does a great job. The complaints I hear about GT usually encompass two things: 1) Too Goku-centric 2) So-and-...

Re: Favorite Villains

Let's all try to add some actual substance to our posts instead or just tossing up lists :). It's all about conversations, here! Like I said, I was trying. But my internet had other ideas. Anyway, my re-typed justifications: Hirudegarn - An out-and-out kaiju villain was a great idea for a movie. Ad...

Re: Dragon Ball Season 5 and Blood Rubies in TRSI Catalog

I have the first season of DB and I want to collect these, but I'm thinking that a DBox release might happen. If it doesn't, then all the Blue Bricks will be super cheap by the time I pick them up. This is exactly the situation I'm in. I have the first Blue Brick, but since then I've only been buyi...

I had in-depth explanations for all of these, and then my browser closed unexpectedly. So here's a list, with explanations coming at a later point. 10. Hirudegarn 9. General Rilldo 8. General Blue 7. Androids 17 & 18 6. Assistant Black 5. Babidi 4. Tao Pai Pai 3. Freeza 2. Majin Buu (all forms, and ...

Re: New Dragon Ball Fan

I am planning to watch the Dragon Ball anime this weekend, just as soon as I've finished watching the current season of True Blood. Looking forward to it, especially the score which I've heard is excellent. The score has a very '70s kung-fu vibe to it. It's iconic and fitting, but not something I'd...

Re: Ryu-Ken/Dragon Fist

Oh, and there's this amazing tidbit from the GT Perfect Files: from what I remember (don't have the book to check), it says that for the DB/Z movies, they basically thought up the title first, then fleshed out the plot. The example they use is DBZ movie 13. First they settled on the title being "Dr...

Ryu-Ken/Dragon Fist

It's Goku's most powerful technique in the anime-verse, but ... what the hell is it exactly? Or even remotely? All the series gives us is that Goku created it sometime during the ten years between Buu's defeat and the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai. And he uses it to punch holes through opponents he couldn'...

Counterpoint: It was definitely an improvement. Some things work on the manga page, some things work better in animation. Buu walking is definitely good for a last "oh shit" moment.

Re: Favourite Art Style in the series

I remember seeing a thread a long time ago (when I was just browsing) that actually found all the studio names for the different styles. That'd be handy. The best styles are a new, extremely stylized one that was brought in for the Buu arc (they do a lot of interesting things with the eyes, and dyna...

Re: New Dragon Ball Fan

The fifth volume will get you into the start of the first real "action-y" arc. Still a lot of comedy, but the series gets its first villains who aren't total comedic relief. The shift is very gradual, and the comedy never really goes away, even in the "Z" portion. By the time it's taken backseat to ...

Re: New Dragon Ball Fan

Finished Volume 2, wish I'd bought some more. And which version would you reccomed me watching first? Is the original better, or is Funimation equally as good? If you want something that equates the experience you have reading the manga, stick to the subtitled Japanese option with any release you p...

Re: New Dragon Ball Fan

I (and millions of other fans) have nothing bad to say about Dragon Ball (Z/GT). It's one of the most fun, self-aware cheese fests you'll ever find. It's not perfect, but if you actually let that bother you at any point, you're taking it too seriously. Also, I love that despite how irreverent the se...

Re: Tanooki's Retro Review: DragonBall Z '97 Episodes 1- 4

I didn't start watching the show until the end of Funimation's Freeza arc, but I saw most of the Saban era episodes via re-run and DVD. You know, the picture quality, editing, and script may be hilariously bad, and techinically I didn't even grow up with them, but for some reason I wouldn't mind hav...

Re: Stupid things you've ignored.

Yeah, I was always skeptical of the Androids being stronger than freaking Super Saiyans. But then again, where do you go from an intergalactic emperor? Preferably somewhere less stupid, or at least more self-awarely stupid like Buu (who, even then, he was a demon designed to kill gods. That's prett...

Re: Stupid things you've ignored.

To me, there has always been one stupid plot contrivance above all others. Freeza crafted a galactic empire out of his strength and acquired technology. He was feared throughout space. Meanwhile, on Earth, which is a technologically primitive planet, some old guy just makes three androids far strong...
