Re: Episode #0205 (17 January 2010)

Holy crap! That "Yamucha Special" joke was a reference to the Sailor Moon S movie, wasn't it? I'm amazed only because I just picked up that movie at a used video store, and had never seen it before. I literally saw that scene less than a day before you made that joke, and I never would have gotten i...

Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy

And, yes, Kame Hame Ha should be said just like that, not Kamayamaya. Obviously it's not referring to the king of Hawaii, and the fact that it's the same word could just be coincidence anyway. To pronounce it the dub way destroys the play on sounds that was originally intended. Kamehameha sounds si...

Re: A dramatic change in Videl's character?

This is another reason why I'm so upset that Gohan's time in the limelight was so quickly aborted to bring things back to the status quo. Videl was very obviously introduced to be a main character and something of a foil for Gohan. But once emphasis shifted back to Goku and the other superpowered ch...

That's Bulma from movie 13, and, if I recall correctly, that's Mike's personal favorite. Phew, I can certainly see why!

Re: How will you/do you display your Dragon Boxes?

Since I don't currently have a shelf of any kind in my apartment, my DBox is in a stack with my other DVDs. As for which way to display it, if it was on a shelf, it would be with the title facing out. Spine art on DVDs has never been a big deal to me, unless of course it's on the same spine as the t...

Re: How Kai should have been done.

Well, that's certainly more of the lack of realism of Dragon Ball in general than any cauterization rule, I would think. Although, since you bring it up, Freeza certainly does have some entrails hanging out of him in the manga. Tenshinhan's nearly bloodless limb removal in the anime also gushes bloo...

Re: FUNimation dub of Kai vs full/original DBZ accuracy

I certainly agree that MasakoX is by far the best English Goku ever, and he has the character down perfectly. It's interesting, of course, that he is basically aping Peter Kelamis, though, who was controversial when he replaced Ian Corlett. As for me, I thought Kelamis was great as Goku, and even th...

Re: How long did the Saiyans live peacefully with the Tuffles?

Things like this do open into the intracacies of canon. For example, does the inclusion of the Bardock panel in the manga mean that Toriyama fully incorporates that whole storyline into canon including his precognition and teammates, or simply that Goku's father defied Freeza right before he destroy...

Re: Pit Stop at Arlia - Was there a point?

I admit I always enjoyed this episode. First of all, I always love seeing the "original" color scheme of Vegeta in action. Plus, the story, while simplistic, is a fun, self-contained, and has a great little dark twist to it. I would complain about Vegeta having telepathy, but, really, is the manga a...

Re: Gohan and Videl VA questions

I never really gave it much thought. I mean, it's not the first time FUNimation did a random subbing out in the transition from special/movie to the regular series. Remember that, when they first started working in-house, Ceyli Degadillo (or however you spell her name) was cast as Goku, both in DB m...

Re: How long did the Saiyans live peacefully with the Tuffles?

Not that I ever gave too much thought to this (as I haven't seen much of the GT stuff that dealt with this minor plot point, nor was I aware until recently that Toriyama had a hand in producing that backstory), but I was always under the impression that it took time for expansion to happen. I believ...

Re: Gohan's sudden outfit change?

Again, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to me that she should change into a more practical outfit for battle observing and assistance, so it's never bothered me that she changed from a dress to shorts. And it's the same way in the manga since she was shown in her dress while trying to use the scouter...

Re: Why did they cut it?

Very interesting. I have no idea what it is, but if I had to make a guess, I would say it was produced by the network rather than by the series, which would explain why it would not be on home video releases.

I only fault it for bringing an abrupt end to Gohan's life as a teenaged superhero. He could have done so much more with that as the anime shows!

Re: Why Majin Buu is the worst villain in DBZ

like watching f lying Looney T oons battle it out. Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a bad thing? I only see this as a bad thing because it's Looney Tunes , not Looney Toons , a pretty common mistake. Other than that, I'm generally okay with the Buu Saga, as I'm more of a fan of early DB an...

Re: Gohan's sudden outfit change?

Well, since we're on that, there's also the only slightly less jarring example of Bulma's hair growing out in, like, two episodes. Up through episode 18, she still has the short 'do she had at the beginning of the Saiya-jin arc. Then, two episodes later, her hair is suddenly long! Again, there's no ...

Re: Star Trek V Reference in DBZ

Hmm, this conversation made me go back and look at Mike's old videos for the first time since they were new, and, I know this is coming close to veering off topic, but I just couldn't help but remark on the continuing idiocy of YouTube commenters. On video #3, one complaining commenter, when asked b...

Re: Gohan's sudden outfit change?

It's not really a goof per se, it's just a bit hard to swallow as it is in the anime. Like bussani said, in the manga, his two appearances were spaced out enough that it was conceivable that this occurred. In the anime, Gohan and Piccolo are training in one scene, Kamesennin summons Shen Long in the...

Re: DBZU and DBZU2 seems to be officially gone now.

Yeah, DBZ Uncensored was one of my favorite sites back in the day, and alongside Planet Namek, DaizenshuuEX, and Ginga Giri Giri were the only Dragon Ball sites I regularly frequented in those far off days of, well, a decade ago back when I was a wild and rambunctious teenager trying for the life of...
