Star Trek V Reference in DBZ
Thanks to rewatching the series on the Dragon Box, I've found an interesting little nod to, what was then, the most recent Star Trek movie in a filler sequence in episode 22 of DBZ. Basically, an Enterprise shuttlecraft (with an NCC-1701-A marking) was one of the news vehicles destroyed by Nappa (or...

As for the main question, I put it down to the time travel done in that crazy clock room being done only in the mind, so the things Goku encounters in the past may be distorted from how they would be in the real world. Herms has a point. Remember the gravity on Planet Vegeta not affecting the Z gan...

To return the favor, though, no, Mike, the word "Arlia" is not in the title. Like has been pointed out, the dub title was "Trouble on Arlia," but the Japanese title was, "The Saiya-jin, Mightiest Warriors in the Universe, Awaken," one of the few Z-era titles not in two sentences! Oh, I knew that. I...

Yeah, that does look like a pretty nice boxset aside from the video flaws. I like the cover art, and how they use kana for the names of the characters featured on each box. In terms of the menus, that's a bit of a weird shape for the scouter display, though, and it looks to me like the menus themsel...

I was just rewatching the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, and the episode where Piccolo releases his... er, crap, I forgot the name of it, but the attack that pretty much leaves Papaya Island a wasteland, pretty much epitomized Drag-on Ball. I wouldn't be surprised if this is where this style originated. Co...

Yeah, I agree with Bussani about the bodies of Yamucha and the others. The way I see it is that gods and other advanced beings automatically get to keep their bodies when they die. Probably similarly to Goku, Kami-sama petitioned Enma to allow them to keep their bodies after he had met up with them ...

Thanks for the scans, Mike, and for the info, everyone else. Now I'm sure that Arlia is not a dubism. I wouldn't have thought they would have put it in the Dragon Book if it had been, but I just wanted to make sure. To return the favor, though, no, Mike, the word "Arlia" is not in the title. Like ha...

Guh, I haven't seen the dub in forever.....*thinks*.... For Funi: -I really enjoyed the cheese Gohan's VA injected into his Saiyaman voice. It was charmingly dorky. X3 -That scene where they show the Bobble-Head movie at the Tenkaichi Budoukai; the way Funi went about it made me smile. Oh, wow, I f...

Yeah, FUNimation's mix is pretty terrible. I guess Toei gave them a bad effects and music track. Naw, most of their 5.1 tracks have ended up this way. Their own fault. Yeah, but if TOEI only gave them mono score tracks, then what can you really do? No matter what you do to it, the exact same music ...

Well, like you said, both instances are filler. They have a hard enough time matching with canon material. You really expect them to match with each other? But unless I'm mistaken, when Goku confronts Mutaito, Popo's trying to teach him about sensing ki, which apparently is a concept that Mut...

Anyways, back on topic, even if Buu-smoke was comprised of some kind of "cells", how can a Genki-Dama deteriorate it further? At least Cell's situation was a little clearer. If you destroy his cells down to smaller particles you're done. But Buu's smoke/vapor is already the product of this breaking...

Doing a redub from the ground-up doesn't seem like an impossibility, contrary to what others may believe. I don't think it's impossible. I just think they're aware they've already alienated their dub loyalist fanbase by reverting back to the original music, so I don't think they'd risk messing with...

I'm really hoping to see more dub fans come in here and say what they like about the original version. There have been a few at the beginning, but, for the most part, this seems rather one-sided. The Dub's number one fan didn't even say anything about anything but the dub. Made me sad :( Indeed. Pe...

Oh, yes, I certainly agree. The dub with the original score is certainly a phenomenal improvement. It's just a shame that the other half of the dub still doesn't fit. It's a step in the right direction, but they'd really have to do it again from the ground up to have a chance of getting it to really...
