Re: Dub Changes That Don't Bother You...that much

"Frieza" really doesn't bother me all that much. It's not how I spell it, but it's one letter difference, doesn't obscure the pun to any significant degree, and the pronunciation is still fairly obvious.

Re: Goku Blasts In! ...to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

It's cringe-ception. It takes more effort than I'd like to admit to stop myself from going "nah, you're wrong!" whenever I see it. :P It's even cringier if you actually made a comment praising the pronunciation. I don't mean replying to someone else's comment correcting them. I mean simply making a...

Re: How would you write a Grand Finale arc for the franchise?

To echo what has already been firmly driven home, this series/franchise has already had two definitive endings. It never, ever needed to come back. But more specifically to the question at hand, I find it hard to imagine Super being able to churn out a "Grand Finale." It's completely antithetical to...

Considering Toei was writing their English subtitles for Dragon Ball Super to cater to dub familiarity (grr...), I somehow doubt it.

Re: Babidi had the worst VA in the entire Japanese Run of DB/Z. Agree?

Just like when people complain about Furukawa's Piccolo sounding "too much like a regular dude," I always find myself completely unable to understand when people say that Yanami's Babidi sounds bland or just like his other roles. For example, I love Nozawa. She is my Goku. I don't agree with any of ...

Re: Babidi had the worst VA in the entire Japanese Run of DB/Z. Agree?

Wow. It's been so long since I heard this one I actually forgot this was a thing. But like Mike said, it's a complaint I've never understood. I absolutely love Yanami in the role, and it's probably one of the most delightfully memorable performances in the entire series... which is saying a lot in a...

Additionally, excuse me, if this comes off as rude, but I don't care if you don't agree with my opinion or your qualms. Just as you could care less for my opinion. Yeah... see, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. I don't know if this is one of those text-tone problems, or if you're just ea...

Re: Funimation Remastering of Z - What did they do wrong?

I disagree that it's uncut. The top and bottom are cut out, so technically I'm not seeing the footage uncut. The episode just happens to run as long as the original uncut episode did. Therefore...0/10. I'd say it's even worse than that. No original credits. I wouldn't consider that uncut footage ei...

To show you don't know what your talking about yes, it's no use debating and I've given an essays worth already. People just got other things to do. Okay, well, I have seen Super all the way through (unfortunately) and have read this entire conversation, and I still can't fathom what you're talking...

Thank you so much for sharing this with us. While I'm definitely familiar with Carl Macek, Fred Patten was a name I did not know, and I'm glad to know his story. As always with your posts, a fascinating read.

Re: Which of FUNimation's Name Changes Bother You the Most?

I think there's a significant difference between the 19th century styled Bloomers and the buruma of Japan. Namely the latter's resemblance to underwear. Yeah, there is a significant difference. 19th century bloomers actually are underwear while the "buruma" of Japan are, in fact, not. So in terms o...

Re: Which of FUNimation's Name Changes Bother You the Most?

Truly? I highly doubt that English audiences in general have ever heard of "bloomers", outside of maybe seasoned anime fans and Japanese enthusiasts. Maybe they've heard of the word "bloomers" itself, used in its other related contexts, but not in this particular usage. I'm all for understanding th...

Bulma does if you know what you're looking for. The name puns aren't always so on the nose. No, they're not always so on the nose. But this one unmistakably is either exactly on the nose or right next to the nose. We've both already explained how it sits in relation to its pun source, and there sim...

Re: Which of FUNimation's Name Changes Bother You the Most?

When translating to a language like English doesn't Japanese lend itself to multiple spellings? And if 19 and 20 were corrected, where was Bulma corrected? Sometimes it does. How do we know what's "correct"? Pattern recognition. Why do we render Ta-re-su as Tullece? Because we know Saiyan names fol...

What am I missing. He wrote "staff". Toriyama wrote and drew the manga. ""Bloomer" goes into Japanese as BURUMA, which was incorrectly rendered as Bulma on her shirt in chapter 1 /episode 1." Emphasis mine. But it was written/drawn by Toriyama, so if it's a mistake, it doesn't matter. Rebuttal 1: S...
