Re: Lets stop Asian hate - what can we do?
Try telling that to the minorities and LGBTQ receiving heaps of abuse. Somehow I don't see that going too well for you. At least in my State, I really would have to agree that it's blown out of proportion. I mean, aside from certain hicks hating anyone L, G, B, T, Q, or the ones who fall under the ...

Re: Diccolo's Combo rescore of Kai [An Ongoing Project]
The remix of that "Piccolo Fuses with Nail" song by Faulconer Productions is quite perfect. It sounds very Kikuchi inspired with the strings and bell, but the style of the strings seems more Yamamoto, I suppose. In any case, it fits the show, and I approve.

Re: 1st teaser of Dragon Ball Evolution
If anything, it HELPED the franchise, right? I recall reading that the directors or whoever ignored Toriyama's suggestions, and then the movie bombed, so he made sure to get some control over the next movie that came out (Battle of Gods). That's correct isn't it? So if anything, I guess we should be...

Re: Dragon Ball 4K Remaster (16mm)
It would take just as much time to make a 1080p Blu-ray Disc release. Might as well go max level if you're gonna put in that kind of time/effort/money. We don't need a repeat of the 480p scans from the 2000s. With DBZ, sure it was like a year before 1080p was a thing (I think), but the re-scans done...

Re: Dragon Ball 4K Remaster (16mm)
Meh, all I'm seeing is multi-generational grain being brought to the forefront and no appreciable detail in the backgrounds or line art. This is a cheaply made show that aired on a weekly basis from the mid 80s printed on cheap film stock, not a Studio Ghibli movie where every detail is poured over...

Re: Harmony Gold Dub Reconstruction [[DONE!!]]
Thank you for the hard work, KBABZ. It's nice to have only the audio be low quality rather than both the audio and video. It makes it the Harmony Gold dub far more presentable. Till now it was impossible to show it to friends.

Re: Akira Toriyama on Saiyan Hairstyles - Lost Article Translated
I feel like maybe Toriyama's use of the word "bald" might be a case of it being a translation from Japanese to Spanish to English, and how the word can have different connotations in each language. Like, I think in Japanese, there's a "bald (from balding)" and "bald (from sh...

Re: The meaning of ''Shunkan Idou''
瞬間移動 (shunkan'idō) as a whole means "teleportation". You can translate it as 瞬間(shunkan/instantaneous) and 移動 (idō/movement), but why stop there? Why not 瞬 (shun/instant), 間 (kan/tele-), 移 (i/trans-), and 動 (dō/-ation)? Instant Teletransation . And in reverse, we could translate "tele...

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
No I meant it's common in manga and anime for character names to be written in Katakana instead of their original Hiragana or Kanji. So that basically it doesn't mean much that it's written differently, in terms of the intent. Again, the usage of Katakana for names is common, and it's not about for...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings
For Makankosappo usually adapt it Demonic Piercing Death Cannon, for Gyarikku Ho, I usually go with Gyarlic Gun, where it’s still different but you can tell it came from the base word. Kaioh, the Galactic Overseer. Would call him the Galactic King but the character in Jaco/Super complicates that. U...

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
It doesn't go against Toriyama's intentions at all. His intention is for the reader to recognize that the character's name is Oolong as in Oolong tea. Whether it's written Wulung/Wulong/Oolong doesn't matter in that regard. The usage of katakana versus kanji is common and isn't really a factor in t...

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
The most recent style of Cantonese, Jyutping, actually romanizes it as jam caa , pronounced the same as the Yale yam cha . I suppose "Yumcha" would work just as well, since apparently "yum cha" is the popular spelling in the English speaking world. Similarly, "Oolong" ...

To quote God himself:
"I serve as nothing more than a means to power up, and to contribute my vast wisdom."
and
"Right now what the Earth needs is not a god...but rather, the mighty.".

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
Oof. I'd like to point out that I made a typo in my first post. It's Pu-erh , not Pu-ehr . Uhg, my eyes... Yeah I don't know where the Japanese wiki may have gotten that info, but the few Wade-Giles/Pinyin converters I have used all return wu and yin for both styles. And for what it's worth,...

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
I thought "Oolong" and "Yumcha" were just anglicized forms of the original Mandarin/Cantonese words, not Wade-Giles romanizations. Are they? You know, it's VERY hard to find sources of Wade–Giles spellings... :/ Tho, I know the Japanese wikipedia page for 飲茶 says that "Yumc...

As far as I know Freeza was always his real name, and Freezer... Well that one is the original name of a Pokemon we know as Articuno. Well, yes ; that's what I'm saying. The character フリーザ (Furīza) is Freeza , and the word (and pokemon) フリーザー (Furīzā) is Freezer . The character ベジータ (Bejīta) is Veg...

Re: Internationalized romanticized Japanese names?
As an addendum to my previous post, I'd like to point out that 餃子 Jiaozi is what most people spell as "Ciaotzu". The final letter -the I- is short, and sounds kinda like the I in "spit". Tho, if you're not familiar with Chinese accents, it tends to sound similar to a short U (as ...
