Re: The Broli movie will use dub names in its subtitles, at Toei's request. Could this become the new "standard"?

Sure. I get that. But these instances are so few and far between that in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't impact it that badly. For example, you're a fan. You know the proper names. You're watching the Japanese version, which doesn't rely on the subtitles at all. You still know them as their ...

Okay, got 'em! Should mention, the clip of stressed Gohan actually comes from DBZ 184, not 185.
Thanks! Tho, the distressed Gohan shot WAS from 185. The previous episode recap. That’s where FUNi grabbed the screenshot from, so I did the same.

Re: Comparison shots from every single DBZ release

Disclaimer: keep in mind the unfairness in comparing DVDs and BDs. Obviously DVDs are going to look blurrier being 480p rather that 1080p. Superfan2024 , you should copy and paste my spoiler tag and its contents into the opening post, and add comparison shots from others as they get posted. So that ...

I haven’t heard anything about audio yet. But maybe they replied to a random Twitter post? They did reply to SOME questions, rite? Just not the video-related ones. Till the update at least. But it’s probably just the same two options as the “season” sets. if that's the case, Id gladly scan my copy f...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

They censored Bulma smoking! Or Toriyama did, I don't know, he redrew a whole page and it kinda sticks out. I don't like the idea of Bulma smoking (c'mon, she's smarter than that!!), but I agree that redrawing the page just for that is weird. They didn’t censor anything. She wasn’t smoking; that wa...

I have half the Pioneer singels, most of the FUNi singels, all the Dragon Box Z sets, and half of the first season of Dragon Ball Kai. All but the Dragon Box Z sets are ript to me external harddrive (I'll work on that), so I can certainly help with some comparisons... I started and have comparison s...

Re: The Trimark (BLT) Dub of Dragon Ball

The 2001 script was just a rewriting of their 1995 script, which was just a rewriting of Harmony Gold’s script. So basically just rewriting for the sake of rewriting, with it becoming less and less like the original Japanese script with each rewrite. I own the R1 "Dragon Ball: The Saga of Goku" whic...

Hm... A little bit. I bit of Ghibli, a bit of Toriyama, and a bit of yucky generic American movies. There's enuf of the first two that I think I wanna see this. I've never seen a movie by Toei made in CG like this before.

Re: A Dragon Ball movie done in Studio Ghibli style?

The first DB movie ( The Legend of Shenlong ) was definitely inspired by Studio Ghibli's first movie (one that predates even the studio itself): Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind . That confusing name is pronounced [ NAH - sih - KAH - uh ] by the way. The art style, the outfits, the möwe-like flyin...

Appeal to the 500 Fans that are clamoring for a 4:3 release and have all the other fans simply 'press zoom' on their remote, or just make the show fit into every television in the country ? I don't think you realize that me and you are the minority. Only a few people wanted a 4:3 release, so they r...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

No, he said this new set would use the same film prints as the Levels sets (and the HD bricks). Which is what this set is. No false claims that I can see. The DB prequel issue is Toei's fault as they had no business splitting the story into 2 parts. But it's also from companies releasing DBZ before ...

I feel bad for Toriyama. I feel like he wouldn't appreciate this... Generations from now, people are going to know DBZ as the show that looks like garbage and has a prequel calld Dragon Ball.

Re: Toei Animation celebrates 30 years of DragonBall Z with new licensing deals, products and events!

I'd assume the last one.

Movie 1, then Movie 1 again (without Harmony Gold names), then the 13 episodes, and then on to DBZ.

That seems like the most likely. But in any case, 1994 is when Funimation brot Dragon Ball to the United States (and Canada? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.).

Re: Toei Animation celebrates 30 years of DragonBall Z with new licensing deals, products and events!

I think the 30th anniversary logo looks far worse... 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of “Dragon Ball’s” introduction to U.S. Even if we ignore the Harmony Gold dub, the other Ocean dub premiered in September 1995. Which is only 24 years ago. Their dub of the first DB movie probably aired in 1994. Th...

Re: The Doctor Slump Preview that aired after the final GT episode, was it released on DVD?

Doctor Slump's remake that ran for about 74 episodes had a first episode preview included on the final GT episode. My question is, if they released Doctor Slump on DVD in Japan, was that featured? I don't know for sure, but probably. I have what I think is the first episode preview for Dr Slump & A...

Re: Harmony Gold is still active so couldn't they make a deal with FUNimation?

Harmony Gold doesn't have the rights to Dragon Ball anymore. Anything they had, they were supposed to send back to Toei. Doesn't mean they did, but that's beside the point, bucuz more importantly, Funimation probably already HAS the entirety of Harmony Gold's dub. It's 100% certain that they got at ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Same could be said for the Dragon Boxes Z but they left it at a limited quantity and that was it. Not entirely true. They seemd to have a Switch amount of time they were allowd to produce the Dragon Box Z sets, and they did print multiple runs of at least some of the volumes before the time ran out.
