Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Ooh, nice comparison. Anyone got that in Levels quality? It's worth noting that video does no justice to how beautiful the scene looks; the Level BDs were very high-bitrate, and had grain everywhere. The way YouTube compresses that down is not flattering to the original look. So, watching it from th...

Re: Funniest/Worst FUNi Dragon Ball/Z dub lines

“ Hold on. I almost forgot. I NEVER transform unless some-body gives me a countdown. ” -Funimation’s Freeza “ You're certainly on the ball today, Captain Ginyu. If you were a dog, I'd scratch your belly. If you were a cat, I'd give you warm milk until you started to purr. But since you're neither of...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

That was only becuz of the then-new Japanese law that all shows on TV HAVE to be in wide-screen. The BD version of the home release was in 4:3. But The Final Chapters is ONLY available in 16:9. I'm also pretty sure in japan the show was reffered to as ''anime'' and the movies as ''eiga''(movies) Old...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It’s not even “an anime”, it’s “a cartoon”. We don’t go calling animated shows and movies from OTHER countries by weird names. The Japanese would call even SpongeBob SquarePants “an anime”. Just like how they don’t use the word “manga” they way English speakers think they do. “Manga” actually means ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It's more that: 1, his source doesn't necessarily know for sure; 2, his source can make mistakes; and 3, what may be true at the point his source says it, mite change by the time the announcement comes. So...I'm gonna try to stay positive and not think that this release mite use the same degraded fi...

Re: Preferred Printing of the English Manga

What is the difference between the "Manga-Style" edition and other releases from Viz ? The Special "Manga Style" Edition is larger, contains three or four chapters each, and look like American comics. But they only release chapter 1~142 and 195~309 before canceling it for their new Viz Graphic Nove...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

While I'm no expert on the technical details, among the broader anime fandom, it's well-known that Funi's alternate angles introduced significant macroblocking to the shows that featured them. It cut the video bitrate in half, which resulted in the macroblocking. So ultimately, it's a good thing th...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Something something Part 3, WAV format and it's about 280GB. There were some here against sharing the OBA files because they thought FUNimation/TOEI would use it but look at it, they're not going to. It's the 30th Anniversary release and they're completely ditching it. Gracias! Yeah, I agreed that ...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It’s annoying that Toei refuses to use the broadcast audio, but Japanese companies tend to think very different from western companies. At least we can make this release pretty close to ideal by doing the work ourselves. Now we just gotta hope they get that video quality right. I’ve already released...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Just as I thought, the broadcast audio will not be in this release. Sorry folks! :) Well, I guess at least we have confirmation now that there’s no hope for the broadcast audio to be used for a home release. Stupid Toei... Hopefully the fans who have it will release the audio in its highest possibl...

Re: Quick question about UUE releases of Movies 1-3

According to Kanzenshuu’s Home Video Guide, Movie 2 and Movie 3 weren’t released separately, so the non-holo version is the only version. I would assume the reason for you having a holographic edition of Movie 1 is from someone buying it, planning to buy the next two...only to have FUNi release them...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

The Levels look excellent besides the crushed blacks and very minor macroblocking, but the former could be solved with a better source to work from and the latter could be fixed with better encoding. Hopefully that kind of approach is taken and improved upon. But that's exactly the problem I have w...

Re: Preferred Printing of the English Manga

Easy, Full Colour. It's absolutely GORGEOUS to look at, makes the panels even clearer to read than they already were, and so far it's the only English release of the manga that's at the same size as it was in the original Shonen Jump releases. Not true. You’re forgetting about the Special "Manga-St...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It’s certainly not as brite as Kai, and even that I don’t mind. But I’d say the Dragon Box sets got the brightness down fine enuf. It’s blurry becuz it’s 480p, so it’s just an inevitability that I accept. My only complaints are: blues are too green, yellows are too faded, and the next episode previe...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

I think people SOME complaind about the Levels sets back when they came out, but gave up cuz it wasn’t worth it complaining about. They were happy it would replace the Orange Bricks, but were quite content with their Dragon Box Z sets. At least, that’s how it was for me. As for the Dragon Boxes, the...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Personally for a project like this, I hope it's a scan of the original 16mm negatives done by Toei, if my understanding is correct this release is supposed to be a domestic release in addition to being to some extent an international one made to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the DBZ series, i...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Also, I'm not sure if you guys have discussed it yet, but do you all think this home release will be a normal type of Blu-Ray (1080p) or Ultra HD Blu-Ray (4K)? If I’m remembering correctly, anything more that 1080P would have to be an upscale, and I don’t want that. The movies, however could be in ...

Re: Does anyone ever actually watch the Z dub with the Kikuchi score?

I typically despise the FUNi dub for its low quality, for its general existence, and for all it’s done to this world...but I do feel nostalgia for it. As such, the only logical way to watch it is the version on the singles. Not ideal, but till FUNi releases the original broadcast version of their du...

Re: When did you start liking Vegeta?

Huh... I don’t think I EVER like’t Vegeta (as a Z Soldier). Maybe as a villain, I like’t him, tho. He was pretty terrifying on Earth. The threat he posed was annihilation of the entire population, and even the planet itself. Nothing had ever been that serious before. On Namek, he wasn’t the big, sca...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Really? I’ll have to try this out. It seems like a strange feature to remove. The 30th anniversary will have 4:3. Oops! :) I’ve been told there are no plans to censor anything. :) I hope this is true. I’m going to just believe it is, cuz I want to not worry about this anymore. But I have no reason t...
