Re: Viz/UTA developing live-action Dragonball series?

Honestly, I think a live-action Dragon Ball series could only work if it severely toned down Toriyama's brand of humor, and re-designed a lot of the characters and villains. Otherwise it would just look too silly to take seriously, but then it would lose all of the charm of the original series, so I...

Re: Spain: DBZ movies will be released on Blu-Ray

Hmm, but if this has japanese credits, how can it be FUNimation's video? Doesn't make sense. And it doesn't look any better than FUNimation's release, either. I am no video expert, but FUNimation might have applied their remastering process to the entire scanned movie before going back and putting ...

Re: You guys are so lucky

Yeah, besides maybe Japan, Americans pretty much have it made when it comes to Dragon Ball, and in some respects even have it better than the Japanese, mostly because DVDs and such in Japan are way more expensive in general.

Re: Do you get bothered seeing dub names?

Do "Krillin" and "Shenron" even qualify as dub names? Sure, maybe they aren't the best choice in terms of romanization, but it's not exactly like FUNimation pulled those names completely out of their ass. They're still technically valid. I think of a "dub name" as something completely out of left fi...

Re: A question regarding dub names

I grew up watching FUNimation's version, but I do know of a few notable changes in other languages: Several European versions refer to the Saiyans as "Space Warriors", which is in fact what they are also referred to in the AB Groupe dub of the movies and TV specials. Super Saiyans are referred to as...

Re: Do you get bothered seeing dub names?

I don't feel like reading the entire thread, but in short: no. I use exclusively Japanese terminology on here, and I never watch the dub (or dubs of anything, really), but I casually use "Tien" and such when I'm talking to my friends in real life.

Good god that was clumsily-edited. I could also barely hear what Bulma was saying at the end of the second scene. Oolong got something on her favorite skirt? Though I must admit the new line about her not wanting any of her other clothes to be dirty followed immediately by the vehicle blowing up was...

Re: 2016 Dragon Ball Predictions

I really don't see any particular reason for FUNimation to release Dragon Boxes of the original series. Granted, I'm not sure how justified the Z releases were, though there you at least have the argument that the whole series wasn't out in 4:3. For DB and DBGT, this isn't the case, and I imagine th...

Re: 4:3 vs 16:9 poll

DBZ Kai: 16:9. Since the whole point of the show is to refresh it for modern sensibilities, I actually wish Funi released the widescreen version. You can always adjust the settings on your TV and switch to widescreen if your watching the Funimation Kai DVDs/Blu-Rays. I think the fact it was release...

Re: Can anyone vouch for the DVD Singles?

When it comes to the quality of the Japanese Dragon Boxes vs the US boxes, the difference on the first five boxes is only really noticeable in screenshots. You'd basically never notice it in motion, as far as I know, but the Japanese boxes are slightly sharper. For boxes 6 and 7, though, they basica...

Re: LIVE Interview with DALE KELLY (Narrator, Ginyu) on 1/29

I listened to this yesterday, and now that I'm thinking about it: could the strain between FUNimation and Kelly be the reason that there was no "Rock the Dragon"-type release for any of the edited Toonami season 3+ material?
