Re: Social Media: Attacking Staff, Hypocritical Opinions, et

I don't believe you answered the question. What right do you have to determine what is acceptable speech and what isn't? And why, honestly, should I care that somebody has been offended? Anybody can arbitrarily claim offense. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. Certainly people n...

Re: Social Media: Attacking Staff, Hypocritical Opinions, et

Social media is the [insofar?] ultimate culmination of western narcissism and "you can do anything you want" attitude. Can you explain what you mean by the western narcissism "'you can do anything you want' attitude"? I don't want to indict someone if I'm not fully understanding what they're saying...

Even worse is the amount of people I've seen who have HDTVs, and watch TV that's connected through composite, or even coaxial, and think it's HD.

Re: USA DVD Releases

Because the opening shot of Planet Vegeta has Japanese text on it saying the name of the planet, I believe it's part of the same video clip as the Japanese title card. But I'm saying all of this off of memory, so I could be mistaken. But if that's not the case, I can't say I've ever noticed any oth...

Re: USA DVD Releases

I thought he was only referring to the actual title card at the beginning (i.e. the name of the special). I don't think the original shot is on the DVD at all.

Re: USA DVD Releases

There is a strange issue on the Bardock single, I believe. Originally, on screen, they would introduce a planet, with the name written in Japanese at the bottom of the screen, e.g. "Planet Vegeta". It fades in, so on the dub track, they just freeze-framed the screen before the text fades in for a se...

Re: Dragon Ball openings in Star Wars style

Going for the obvious choice: It is a time of peace and stability for the world. Five years have passed since the battle between Son Goku and the Great Demon King Piccolo. The two enemies have gone their separate ways, waiting for the day when they shall fight again. However, a new threat is approac...

Re: Dragon Ball Christmas Gifts

I went to the mall with my grandfather a couple days ago because he needed his watch batteries replaced, and in the meantime, I saw they were having a sale at FYE on shirts, where you could buy one and get one 75% off, so I bought that orange shirt with the Kame kanji on the front and the made-up Ka...

Re: What is the best version of the manga?

As for Viz's releases, their older, less-censored versions are the best, but those are likely difficult to track down. True. However, if supporting the official release is what you're after, then buying used copies of long out-of-print books isn't going to do you any good. I'd say your best bet is ...

Maybe they're figuring people who watched DBZ on Toonami are in their mid 20s now and looking for a car like this.

Re: The Dragon Ball Ford Focus ad on YouTube

Looks like they used the Orange Brick footage rather than the Kai ones. With the resurgence of the franchise since Resurrection 'F' came out, i'm sure the series popularity in North American and Japan would rise back up from the ashes. EDIT: Did they utilize Nadolny's voice instead of Clinkenbeard'...

Re: Have any FUNI VA's ever posted on this forum?

The Schemmel incident took place a long time ago. Pre-Kai. Maybe pre-JumpTour08 special. Maybe during the Ultimate Uncut era? I barely remember it; all I know is it resulted in one of those long argument back-and-forth threads between the two parties before Schemmel left for good. It's a shame thin...

Re: Have any FUNI VA's ever posted on this forum?

I want to say Sean Schemmel and somebody from Faulconer productions have posted here before. I could be wrong though because I think it was before my time here and I'm just recalling somebody saying they did. More specifically, if you're talking about Scott Morgan, he still posts regularly: http://...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Blu-Ray or DVD

The remastered Blu-rays are better than the remastered DVDs for the movies, and (other than lacking Japanese title cards and way shittier audio on movie 13) far superior to the single DVDs. But if it's worth the price difference, I can't say.

Why does everything have to be remade? Why not just let what has already been made exist and put resources towards new things?

Re: The analogy between Dragon Ball and Star Wars

Don't forget that Funimation is Lucasfilm. Don't know if I understand the reference, but if it makes Funimation look bad, then yes I agree. Lucasfilm won't release the original unaltered trilogy on Blu-ray, Funimation won't release the (complete) original aspect ratio DBZ on Blu-ray. And the only u...

Re: Do you prefer the English movie titles or the Japanese o

Just as KameRule said, it wouldn't have appealed to American fans. Casual fans over here just aren't used to the "two sentence" title structure, and they would have probably just laughed at the title rather than watched the movie. So had they kept the two-line title format in the series as well, wo...

Re: Do you prefer the English movie titles or the Japanese o

I would say that, from a purist perspective, FUNimation should have used the Japanese titles directly translated , but I honestly do prefer the English ones. They actually sound like movie titles to me. I generally don't agree with changing anything, but this is one change that I welcome. The Japan...
