Re: Ninja "tree-walking" sequence in DB #37 and Naruto

Damn autocorrect.

In any case, take a look back at some of that old Ninja cinema and TV, then skip ahead and watch stuff like the Murasaki fight and other anime like Basalisk and Naruto. You'll see a lot of storytelling tropes.

Re: Ninja "tree-walking" sequence in DB #37 and Naruto

Murasaki and his antics are a bit of a gag on cinema Ninja stereotypes that started back in the 1960s with the film Shinobi No Mono. Those films, which were a departure from the flashy Ninja magicians of previous eras (which is where Naruto gets its Ninjutsu magic from), we're a lot more grounded an...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion

*cradles my Level Set like it was my own progeny* Don't be so happy about them  Toei's release will dethronize the Levels. Group of people is now working on this 8) At this point, I have pretty much zero confidence that Toei will do their own Blu-rays. It seems that, right now, Super is th...

Re: It just occured to me, Piccolo is the only non-Saiyan...

To ever get to kill an enemy when Goku couldnt. That's awesome. I know Raditz is pathetic, but when the series began he was the first enemy to actually get Goku to require teaming up with someone else to have a fighting chance and it was Piccolo who did the trick. That's gotta count for something. ...

Re: Was Yamcha cured by Bulma?

Huh. That's interesting. I was always under the impression that the whole lesson/joke there was that Bulma got a boyfriend and Yamcha got less nervous about girls because of their crossing paths and eventually teaming up in that first arc. I guess it could be said that maybe Yamcha stopped being ner...

Re: The future of the Dragon Boxes

When did Funimation confirm that they were done with releasing DBZ in 4:3? Skip to 1:08:38 into this recent ANN podcast from February 3rd. Initially, Justin Rojas thought the question was about Kai, then responded "No information about that at this time." Jennifer Fu goes on to say, "Yeah, we don't...

Re: The future of the Dragon Boxes

I think the focus on the old stuff is pretty much nonexistent right now because there is plenty of new content for Funimation to taka advantage of now. The only exception is Boo Kai and that should've come out years ago! Also, recently on the ANN podcast, it eas confirmed that there are no plans for...

Re: One of the original DBZ directors says FUNi Blu-rays where "what it was supposed to look like to begin with"

Maybe this was an extra that was supposed to go on the Level Sets and they were like, "Ah, same shit." lol But anyway, I have to say: Justin Cook cleaned up nicely since I saw him on that Budokai 3 bonus disc. He kind of looked like they found him sleeping on a park bench an hour before shooting. I...

Re: One of the original DBZ directors says FUNi Blu-rays where "what it was supposed to look like to begin with"

I'm glad that the director in question was happy with what he saw from some earlier episodes, but that director needs to see some of the episodes from seasons 5 and 6. He might say something more like, "Uhh, you missed a spot there, guys." I read something about 5&6 having some kind of problems, di...

Re: Would you mind a replacement score for the Kai 2.0 dub?

There was actually a few tunes I enjoyed in the first episode or two of Boo Kai (I haven't watched it in Japanese) on Toonami. There was nothing I really didn't enjoy, either. Whatever didn't really sound great was pretty much just there . I didn't notice it really. Some would say that it's just as ...

Re: Dragonball dreams and premonitions

I never have Dragon Ball dreams, but I do have martial arts dreams! Some of the ones I used to have might be similar to Dragon Ball because they'd involve me fighting a guy who wasn't fazed by the kicks and punches at all. It was like watching Kuririn try to hit Cell or Trunks (pre-time travel) try ...

Re: Why doesn't Goku talks wrongly in the dubs?

I read somewhere on here a few days ago that Goku speaks normally in the actual Manga or he doesn't sound as hillbilly as he does in the show. Can someone confirm or deny this for me? Goku speaks in an accent in the manga as well. A common thing is that he replaces the sound "ai" with "ee" at the e...

Examples: * The Long Lost Brother - In a planet consisting of bloodthirsty warriors who knew nothing but fighting, there existed an exception: the son of King Vegeta himself, Tarble. Banished, instead of rightfully killed as any other saiyan would have been, Tarble, now married to a 'thing' arrives...

Re: I don't mind the stated reason why Broli is mad (at Goku / all the time)

It is dumb, though. I don't remember anything from before age three except for one time I fell down the stairs, one time I was in the back of a car, and one time I was in a playpen watching the end credits of Batman '66 on TV. They're all very faint memories. I have no clue who was to my left at th...

Re: Is filler canon?

And if you're upset because all this new material completely invalidates the tabletop RPG rulebook-sized statistical system and flowchart for the characters' "canonical Power Levels" that you'd been working on painstakingly for the last bunch of years now... well I don't think there's a kind, non-b...

Re: Is filler canon?

The power scaling is (thankfully) completely messed up now. The writers doing whatever they want, regardless of it lining up with previous established facts and stories is a good thing ? Most definitely. Otherwise, the Freeza Army fight in RF would've been just, "Here's Piccolo and Gohan. Also, Ten...

Re: Is filler canon?

The dub for DBZ first aired in late-'96, and it took at least a good solid year and change or so before there was enough of a "post-dub" audience built up to fixate on Power Levels to any substantial degree. So by maybe late '97/early '98 or thereabouts you had Power Level debates and charts and nu...

Re: Is filler canon?

A lot of the time with anime-only content (filler) there's stuff in it that runs contrary to stuff that happens in the manga-based story. Because of that, a lot of the time filler is dismissed entirely during in-universe arguments as it creates problems with coming to legitimate conclusions in regar...
