Re: What would Toei have done with GT if it had gone on longer?

Anyway, it's a kids cartoon. It shouldn't be re-enforcing harmful ideologies, it should be normalizing respect between children of all genders Sorry for the late reply. It looks like some other folks have responded to this thread before I did. Anyway, what "harmful ideology" do mean here? I explain...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

That fundamentally doesn't work on big works; if $10,000,000 was the cutoff, then the movie Infinity War would have gone into public domain in its first weekend, so no movie of that scale would ever be created again. And in general, I think deciding what amount of money is "too much money" is dange...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

Here's my compromise solution, since I live in the US--which does not offer financial security to every citizen: $10,000,000 (a pretty ridiculous amount far and beyond basic financial security and into the realm of enjoying ridiculous wealth) or twenty years, whichever comes first. If you're an 18 y...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

This would apply to all IP. Technological advances, medical advances and entertainment/art advances--all advancements belong to the people. So if you created or worked hard for something, someone who just sits around has the right to share the profits with you ? It's easy to be entitled to the prof...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

Copyright law is entirely broken and we should be critical of IP holders and punch up often to keep the financially powerful in place. What would society gain in Toriyama and friends losing the rights to DB ? I think there are more important issues we should be fighting for, like providing drinking...

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

I have zero interest in being the fluffer for millionaires' rights over a 30+ year old franchise that has generated billions. Copyright law is entirely broken and we should be critical of IP holders and punch up often to keep the financially powerful in place.

Re: Should fans write for official products ?

Hey, maybe Dragon Ball should be public domain so everyone can create whatever they want and consumers can support which projects they like?

Re: “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima

The more I look back, the more I hate the Majin Vegeta storyline. It's just such a bland way to handle Vegeta considering he's supposedly changed over the years, and then his murders are pretty much just swept under the rug again. Really boring. You must obviously be childless nor don't know any pa...

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 5/25/20!)

Really enjoyed the talk about colors. The animation in these films is always a bit on the stiff side but I really enjoy the talk about the colors since I feel like they not only popped more but because they help set up a sort of second-dialogue other than just silly ol' written words.

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

Since we're getting into the commercial aspects of franchises, this paper on Toei Animation's PreCure series and how the animated series is designed to show off the merchandise is a really good read. Hartzheim-2016-The_Journal_of_Popular_Culture[1] In addition to being a popular television series, S...

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse

Multiverse isn't exactly a Festival of Champions , for example. What do you mean? Also Is this comic based on Pokémon Masters? Bra is no worse than Vegeta and he was forgiven, especially if Bra is really weak minded enough that Babidi is controlling her. Vegeta did this and was in full control of h...

Re: Fanmanga - DB Multiverse

I was about to say something similar, I can only read that as him throwing his fetishes on a fan comic. There's no point on all that gore fest, no character development, no way to conceive Bra being redeemed after all that she did without being worse storytelling than already is. It's his comic, so...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

The Anime Machine: A Media Theory of Animation by Thomas Lamarre does a great job of explaining media mix, a format pioneered by Tezuka Osamu in the 1960s for his Tetsuwan Atom cartoon. I suggest reading it (I need to re-read it myself). Japanese cartoons--especially today--are a major media push. ...

Re: Why wasn’t there a proper theatrical Dragon Ball film back in the day?

There was no financial gain to it and in terms of the format, it's not like it was really needed. Films don't need to be 80+ minutes long. They can be 45-60 minutes long and still be perfectly good.

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

It's possible to be intellectually fulfilled by a cute girl with giant bazoongas at the same time one is masturbating to them. This is how Japanese cartoons have been operating since forever. Although, I'm not really sure I'd say Betty and Veronica are hot...

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

I wouldn't call Dragon Ball Z 'the best' television series of all time--I reserve that for Shin Seiki Evangelion--but who cares? Like what you like, share what you like with friends, don't go to bat for it like you're a producer whose job is to sell a product.

Re: Your ideal Dragon Ball sequel.

Dragon Ball is made for commercial reasons. That's the inception of the project! Luckily, a project isn't just it's inception and it never stops taking on new meaning the older it grows.
