Re: Official Unofficial Power Level Discussion Thread

"AxB" as a formula for Potara Fusion has never been meant to be taken literally, never should be taken literally, and actually can't even be taken literally after you think about it for a few extra seconds.

Re: Official Unofficial Power Level Discussion Thread

Judging from what we've been given about Super Saiyan 2 and 3's power boosts in more recent years, and applying that to Goku's fight(s) with Baby... then Super Saiyan 4 being a whopping 40,000x power boost seems fitting. That's with Great Ape's 10-fold boost on top of SS3, and then SS4 being another...

Re: Gine Appreciation Thread.

Gine is probably the only part of the modern material's treatment of Bardock that I don't mind, or potentially even like. Given that her name-drop and character description in a Toriyama Q&A comfortably pre-dates her actual first appearance in Minus, I see no reason not to assume she shouldn't r...

Re: Are you done with Dragon Ball?

I've been essentially done with modern Dragon Ball for like 5 years now. The last thing I indulged in that I actually enjoyed was the DBS Broli movie (after having already given up on both versions of the DBS series) , and even mainly just because it "feels" more like a classic Z outing th...

Ah right, now that I re-read it, the "he" in question is George Lucas, not Toriyama.

Re: Toriyama loves Star Wars but has George Lucas ever talked about Dragon Ball?

While rewatching the prequels I noticed some similarities between Episode III's ending and the climactic battle on Namek. I'm wondering if he was perhaps influenced or if they just both came up with similar set pieces independently. Um, Star Wars Episode III premiered in 2005, a whole decade after ...

Re: Official Unofficial Power Level Discussion Thread

Do you remember the sauce? At the very least there's Raditz's bio in Daizenshuu #7 . I'm pretty sure one or two other sources have restated this same thing, but I can't recall exactly when or where. C'mon, you know what you are doing. If you mean how I make a distinction between "real Bardock&...

The scheme is then something like this, low class is divided into two groups: Yeah, exactly. "Upper-level" and "lower-level" are effectively two different sub-tiers within the larger "low-class" rank. The ones who are suited for field combat roles and the ones who aren...

Re: Official Unofficial Power Level Discussion Thread

In the 2010s AT suggested Bardock was weaker than Raditz by saying the former was a lower class warrior and the latter is a higher class . I think this suggests the bulk of the Freeza Army was quite weak, and so are most Saiyans since Raditz got to be middle class with a flimsly BP of 1500. Monaito...

Re: What was your first introduction to Dragon Ball?

There's no way I could remember my literal first ever exposure to the Dragon Ball franchise... my memory's not too great to begin with and I would have been way too young. I was already vaguely aware of "DBZ" through most of my childhood and preteen years before I actually became a fan. Th...

Re: Crunchyroll re-releasing Dragon Ball GT on DVD in February 2023

I already have the original-ish green-brick Complete Series set for GT (and the GT Dragon Box) , but if this new release happens to be an improvement in any way then I may just double-dip. That would mean doing stuff like keeping the original Japanese episode title screens (much like how they've app...

Re: Which would you recommend more for newer fans? GT, the Super anime, or the Super manga?

I usually recommend "production order" for someone's first time through the franchise. After wrapping up the original story (and attached movies) , I hold it's best to segue directly into GT. Because despite whatever quibbles one may have about how "cAnOn" it is, GT was part of t...

Re: What would you choose: Good voice acting with bad translation or Bad voice acting with good translation?

I would definitely prioritize a good, faithfully-translated script. The bulk of the English dubs that already exist show that people will still watch no matter how amateurish and lousy the voice acting is. But at least with an accurate script, they would still get the actual story and not be functio...

Re: Do you prefer the idea Saiyans are pure evil or generally redeemable?

"Pure evil" would be a pretty big stretch. I mean they're not pre-programmed for genocide like Cell, or force-of-nature avatars of bloodshed and destruction like Majin Boo. They just have a natural drive for combat, which makes it very easy for them to slide into evil territory to scratch ...
