“There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” says Akira Toriyama’s editor, Kazuhiko Torishima
I translated a new interview with Akira Toriyama's editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, and published it on my site: https://thedaoofdragonball.com/blog/interviews/akira-toriyama-editor-says-there-is-nothing-to-learn-from-dragon-ball/ He says, “There is nothing to learn from Dragon Ball,” and, “Dragon Ball i...

Re: Akira Toriyama's 2004 Germany Interview Translated
Thanks for the reminder. I knew I had seen it somewhere, but wasn't clear on where, and I didn't have the time this weekend to search for it again.
Once it's online, I can update this post or create a new one.

Re: Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
I do sympathize with victims and have empathy for their suffering. I don't condone what Gerard did. It's outrageous and abhorrent. He has an illness. It's a false equivalency and emotional plea to argue that Gerard's crimes are the same as my willingness to speak with Gerard about his work on Dragon...

Re: Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
So you've decided on it, have you? Thought the positives outweighed the good? I'm about 80% toward it. I don't enjoy being judged and called a disgusting hypocrite online, as I already have been. But to write a book that is authoritative and thorough, you need to speak with original sources. In thi...

Re: Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
Is he still credited in newer re-releases of the manga? Yes, Gerard is still credited in re-releases, such as the Full Color edition. His name is at the top of the credits. It was actually this exact page that reminded me of him a couple months ago when I picked up Volume 1 of DBZ from the library....

Re: Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
"One of Viz’s translators on the first half of Dragon Ball has regularly visited my school to speak with students in our manga and anime class. Maybe she is someone who could better answer your questions." Yes, I'd like to speak with them. What is their name? Do you already have a way to r...

Re: Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
This is beyond weird, Derek. I question literally everything about this and you. I do not want Kanzenshuu’s name associated with any aspect of this. This isn’t journalism. There is no story here. Every single aspect of what you want to know about Dragon Ball and Viz history can be better and more a...

Questions for Gerard Jones? Upcoming Viz Manga Adapter Interview
Do you have questions for Gerard Jones, the former adapter of the Dragon Ball manga at Viz Media? Gerard localized the English Dragon Ball, and was later arrested in 2016 for distribution of child porn. I've gained access to Gerard at his correctional facility. I can add your questions or comments t...

Re: Former 'Dragon Ball Z' Composer Nathan Johnson Elected to Texas State Senate
Wherever FUNimation's DBZ dub was distributed, you'll find people who think fondly of Faulconer Production's music. That's the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. I know several DBZ fans in the UK who think his music is the best. And just like in America, they refer to the characters with their FUNim...

Re: Trying to get DBZ Kai on TV in Norway - need tv ratings, sales numbers, news paper articles etc world wide
Looks like a lot of the numbers have already been provided. So I'll focus on the questions directed at me. Regarding stories from fans, as you know, Dragon Soul is a book filled with 108 stories from Dragon Ball fans and voice actors around the world who talk about how the series changed their lives...

Marc and I spoke to one another through email from late 2014 to early 2017. Once on the phone, in 2016. The last time we spoke by email was February 28, 2017, when our falling out reached its conclusion. There's a lot I could say, but the long and short of it is that I won't work with Marc anymore, ...

Re: The Source of "HIS POWER LEVEL IS MAXIMUM"?
"His Power is Maximum" or "His Power Level is MAXIMUM" was a popular saying in the English-speaking Dragon Ball and online nerd community's for several years after this image started making the rounds during the mid-to-late 2000s. It was applied to anything that was 'to the extre...

Re: The Source of "HIS POWER LEVEL IS MAXIMUM"?
Nice work, Chuquita. I can confirm that this image and the resulting meme comes from the Fresno Bee newspaper. I did the same research back in 2011 when I was living in Fresno, California. I called the Fresno Bee and asked some questions to their journalists. I also sent in the image and asked them ...
