I think I recall someone saying that Nozawa gave Goku an approximation of some regional accent, but I'm not sure...
Regarding dubs, I'd say giving different regional accents may be a total no-no depending on the language. I've seen some examples of that

Re: Queerness in DB
I don't think we'll see any main character who's canonly homosexual or bisexual in the franchise. Ever. Even in the West, recent portrayals of LGBT characters in animation have been incredibly controversial (weren't there some censored scenes in the UK broadcast of Steven Universe? I haven't seen th...

Re: What if Future Trunks stayed in the present?
Future Trunks and Future Mai staying and going to live somewhere far from the main characters would have been a lot more satisfying than "go back to a timeline similar to yours where you'll have to deal with another versions of you" I bet they could've fused with their alternate ver...

Re: New Dr Slump forgotten?
Well, even the Dr.Slump characters' cameo in Super has used the old designs (I had to check Senbei's just to be sure, though  ) so I think that it's something similar to The Path to Power : they changes in New Dr.Slump are mostly cosmetic, but their designs don't ring the nostalgia bell as well...

Re: Dragonball franchise is getting too complicated for its own good
I don't think it's complicated at all for a newcomer. Someone with no previous knowledge of the story has several points to jump in: the manga, the DB anime, the DBZ anime (not my best idea, but the English dub proves it's possible: combining it with a quick recap by someone who knows the story make...

Re: Does a Lack of Regional Dubs Bother You?
I was about to mention that Spain and Latin America do have different dubs... but on closer inspection, even Spain itself has dubs for its various different language regions! Well, in this case, we're talking about actual different languages separate from Spanish. European Spanish dubs are made in ...

Re: Any examples of bad voice acting in the original?
Does Freeza's laughter not matching the lip-flaps after he kills Kuririn has to be an example of "bad voice acting"? If yes, then that's one for a start. That's generally less the actor's fault, and more the production process' fault. There are countless examples of the animation not bein...

Re: Any examples of bad voice acting in the original?
Yanami's Kaio in Super was disheartening to hear. It's one of the few times I've truly felt a dissonance between how much emotion the character is supposed to show and how much the voice emotes. The voice "not filling the character", if you will. I also thought he slurred his words a littl...

Re: Dragon Ball Super ep 1 english dub error?
Does it really matter? Super can be seen as a sequel to either Z or Kai, so I assume they just played the nostalgia card.

Re: Do you think we can have a new Dr Slump show?
To be fair, I don't want a new Dr Slump show. The original is a classic, and the remake had its ups and downs, but it was more than enough IMO. Some things are best left alone, and I don't think there's enough room to update the series beyond some cosmetic changes.

I think he cares about it, in his own particular way. If ours doesn't fit his, its OUR problem

Re: DBZKai TFC in Spain (Catalan,Galician... Castilian Spanish?)
Does anyone know how this is doing? Well, the Galician dub of the Final Chapters started to air a couple of weeks ago. I don't know anything else, other than the fact that someone I know was complaining about either Gohan or Goten's voice. Regarding other dubs, the Catalan dub already ended, and I ...

Re: If You Were in Charge of an International Adaptation...
If I were to work on it from the very beginning of the series, I assume I'd try to hire a renowned Japanese translator who had little or no previous experience with the series (so he wouldn't be influenced by previous translations) and just go with whatever he chose. Kaio-Sama = The King of All Nort...

Re: The Biggest Sin of the "Future" Trunks Arc
Even though I enjoyed the arc as a whole, I didn't like the idea of having Trunks and Mai end up in that alternate timeline. I feel Goku could have bribed Zeno to rewind time à la Wiss, then eliminate Black... I'm not sure of the details, but I bet that they could have thought of a way better outcom...

Re: Why did Funimation initially use a replacement score for GT?
They could get royalties for the soundtrack, couldn't they? That's quite profitable for them. Apart from that, cutting the early episodes to focus on the action parts showed that they wanted to make it appear more similar to DBZ in tone: Tokunaga's symphonic score would have clashed with the idea th...

I'm curious. Would "Goku Negro" in Portuguese imply that Goku is a black man? Because that's the vibe I got when I read itFortuneSSJ wrote:"Goku Negro" would be softer and better, I guess. Let's wait.
